    Hello eveyone!

Thank you for sharing your experiences!

I need really any kind of information about moving and changing address. My I-751 is still pending and I applied in Los Angeles. I can apply for the N400, and I will do it soon, because I don't want to wait and lose time. The challenge is the address.
I will be moving to the another state, but I am not sure exactly when.

    • -If I apply for N400 in LA, from my current address, and I move to another state before biometrics or after biometrics (in a short time after applying), will USCIS reject my application, because I wouldn't live at the new address 3 months? (as this is a requirement). Did they ask you anything about NOT living at the new address for 3 months before applying for N400?

Of course, I would send the notification of changing the address immediately after moving.

They might not process your change of address in time. Or they may. I would just do all your paperwork, wait to see where your interview is, and fly back for it if it is in LA. You can probably also ask that the interview is where you currently are living, but that may delay the process.

Your advice is incorrect. That is exactly what they need to do if they want to reschedule their interview.  Since there is no requirement for the beneficiary to sign the letter, there is no reason why the petitioner cannot write and send the letter on behalf of the beneficiary. Here is the language in the invitation letter which refutes your advice.

"If for any reason you cannot keep this appointment, return this letter immediately to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) officeaddress listed above with your explanation and a request for a new appointment, otherwise, no further action will be taken on your application."

Please, try to give accurate advice.

Good advice. I would make sure they got that letter too, you just can't be too careful.

I finally received the notice in the mail today.  It was postmarked last Friday on 9/7/18 so even USCIS said they had mailed on 8/28/18, it was not actually mailed that day.  Hopefully no more surprises after this.

I am glad you got it. I do not know what goes on in those offices. I checked my online account. It said they sent me the n445. Never got it. Then, it said they sent it again I think a day later. Never got that one.

Here is the kicker. I am on the phone with them, they will fax it to me. Never got it. I get on the phone with them again. Don't get it. Now it is the day before the ceremony and I am insisiting to stay on the phone while they fax it. She compromises and says she will call me back when they fax it. Ok. She calls me back and says she can't fax it. And this was the third fax number i gave her and i triple checked every one to make sure they were single lines, lol.

Later that day after pretty much giving up i got a call from fedex saying I had a fax. They were so happy, I had called there, i am not kidding, about 20 times to check and see if the fax was in. They finally just took my number - leave us alone! That is what uscis will do to you, turn you into a wreck.

Yes. What we did was downloaded a blank copy so my wife knew how to fill it out. She knew all the interview questions so well, so the questions you need to answer on the back weren't a problem. And they had the form there to be filled in i believe.

I think the essence of it is you NEED to sign that form in front of an officer there at the ceremony.

Hi.  I got an email from USCIS on 8/28/18 that a notice has been sent to my home address regarding the oath ceremony.  I was able to find out separately it is scheduled for 9/20/18.  It has been more than 1 week since I got that email and I assumed I would receive the letter by now but I have not.  I will call USCIS closer to the date if I don't get anything but in case they can't help, are you saying I can just show up on the day (which I was going to do anyway)? I think there is a form to sign at the ceremony. Would they been able to provide this at the ceremony if I never got it in the mail?  Thanks

I never asked my wife exactly what she had to do, but there is some sort of missing documents section at the ceremony.

Call uscis and speak to a tier 2, actual immigration officer. They will be able to fax you a sheet. In our case it was not the actual oath ceremony letter, but just a paper stating the time, location and date of our appointment. Maybe this helped things go faster at the missing documents table?

Definitely go to your oath ceremony even if you are unable to get anything though! We actually almost did not receive anything by fax and were going to go anyway. Believe this or not, uscis had trouble faxing us that document. I know it was uscis becuase i gave them three fax numbers and double checked each one was a free, dedicated line and receiving faxes in good order. I had to call them about 20 times. I am not kidding. You got that right, uscis was unable to send a fax!

Got it. And I'm assuming you're a U.S. citizen? My case is a bit different since I'm a Japanese citizen married to a Swiss citizen, so I'm afraid that they won't see sufficient ties with the U.S., but who knows. Going to get my biometrics done now - hoping my estimated wait time changes after that.

Thanks so much for this very useful information. Not packing my bags just yet, but this is all good to know.

Yes, I am a US citizen. Good luck with your decision. You will get varied opinions and reports no doubt, but my opinion is if you do in fact not stay out of the country longer than the maximum and you provide them a good, logical reason that you can back up with some paperwork, you should be fine. My wife literally got asked, supposedly this was after she'd already passed, "are you going back to your home country right away?", and she answered yes to that question and everything went very smooth for her.

You are exactly the person I want to speak to! You received your citizenship already then? How long were you abroad before the interview, and how much notice did you have before the interview? Did they ask you anything about it at the interview?

Yes, my wife got her citizenship. We were abroad for about four months prior to the interview. I think we had at least a month's notice, it might have been more like six weeks. I told my wife to just tell the truth, that we were over there taking care of her mom who was ill. I do not even think that came up in the interview. Her interview was ten minutes long. My wife came out smiling and there was a woman next to her crying, it was really something. People cited to us that it could very well be a big problem that we were there, but we just figured let's do it and see what happens, and it all worked. Every case is different though, so there is no telling unfortunately. The worst part was not getting really solid dates for anything.

  8. Nice job.

By far and away, not even close, the most difficult part of the entire process for us came after interview was passed, because we never received a oath ceremony letter. Then you call and they tell you that you have to wait a month to call back, which you should not do. ANYway, I am sure that wont happen to you i suppose i am just sort of warning people it is not over after the interview.

No my was oath ceremony schedule if  dont recive the until august 18 request a second letter. Nhen i got the letter my oath was in july 27.

Same here. Mine said if you do not get oath ceremony letter by August 4th, contact us.

The ceremony was scheduled for July 25th was the problem.

Take home point if you are reading this: do not listen to the "if you do not get your oath ceremony letter by.." date. Also, do not listen to the operator when you call in for jot habing received the oath ceremony letter. She will tell you to wait one month. If we would have done that we would have missed the ceremony.

  10. I was a guest not an applicant, but I thought these few quick points may help othere as it is quite crowded. There were aboit 10,000 folks at the ceremony today, and seating for guests actually ran out.

First is the check in process. It is a bear, and they purposefully make you go through slow so as not to storm the main area, so be prepared for it. You are in ac, but you will be in very close quarters with other guests for a good hour. You may want to get there early because as far as I could tell, not every guest was able to get in. I am not sure about this though?

You enter the security from the back side of the convention center, and you will exit from the front (near the stairs).

No water past security unless sealed bottle.

No cameras! This really suprised me. Our particular judge did not approve of cameras, ao anyone that had a camera that "was specifically designed for only taking photos" had to return it to the car or miss the ceremony. Cell phones, ipads were ok, but no laptops.

Parking looked like it ranged anywhere from $10 to $20 dollars. I parked in the West lot on Georgia street and it was $10.

If you think you need to get there an hour early, I would honestly say double it and get there 2 hours early. Little things from finding stuff to parking add up. We actually had the previous ceremony coming out when we arrived (the previous ceremony was late), so it was very confusing trying to figure out where to go.

Get a tetnus shot is you have a bacon wrapped hot dog. That is not fair actually, just a joke. Nice folks selling them and I recommend the ones with onions and bell peppers.

Thanks again to everyone for their help. Honestly, I think we would have missed our oath ceremony without the help of people here.
