  1. I sent off all 3 AoS/AP/EAD for the K-1 visa on the 21st July. I'm in Pennsylvania while my wife has our baby here. We permanently live in Ohio. Just worried about missing the biometrics since our mail forwarding seems to take ages. Saw a letter sent from Texas (a bill for something different) 7th July and it got to us 2 days ago.

Is there any way to check? I don't plan to return to Ohio until the 17th of August. Can biometrics be rearranged? And is there anyway to find out before you receive the letter? Will there be an update on the USCIS status check website to show the biometrics interview date has been set?

  2. I arrived in a K1 in April and 2 weeks ago applied for AOS.

I went to the DMV in Parma and asked them about driving.

They informed me that you can drive on your Uk license for up to 1 year and that it is best to apply for your OH license before you apply for your social security card. AOS, EAD wasn't mentioned but she said it gets very complicated if you wait until after your Ss.

I was told that I will have to do the written part and the practical part of the test.

    Hope this helps

Do you know why it is better to apply for your driving licence before Social Security?

I've got my Social Security card, applied for a bank account. Planning on applying for AoS on Monday and see if I can get a permit on Monday too, since I never had a full licence.

  3. I feel at home anywhere. My home is with my wife. Granted I miss London. However, as long as you are busy you rarely notice it.

I'm having a baby in a couple of weeks so I probably won't have time to think about it. Although we travel 3 or more times a year so I'm sure I'll see a bit of the UK (especially since she's a professor so I get a huge summer holiday).

  4. I paid 340 GBP plus 6000 avios miles to book my one-way British Airways flight from LHR to BWI (Washington DC).

Without using my avios miles it was quoting me 1200 GBP for the same journey.

You can even buy 6000 avios miles for 30 GBP per 1000, so it comes out to about 180 GBP to buy the miles then 340 GBP for the flight (but before you do anything make sure to check the awards availability (you'll need to sign up for BA Executive Club for that).

I pretty much only fly BA, so I've racked up a lot of avios miles over the last 8 years or so when I joined. Also avios miles on the BAEC don't expire for 3 years, but it is 3 years from your last flight... so the more you fly the more they extend.

  5. I'd be surprised if you don't hear anything by Wednesday. My visa was ready to pick up the very next day after I'd received the email with the tracking number. That said, I picked it up from a London depot, so it didn't travel far.

I've also been looking at flights. I still have a few things to tie up before I can book my tickets. Currently, it's a toss up between Air New Zealand and Virgin Atlantic. If I can help it, I don't want to ever have to do the two-layover trips again - would rather pay more for a direct flight to LAX.

I just want to get over to my fiance, she wants me there for 4th July so I can meet her extended family. A bit of an issue though because of the whole delay in the visa stuff. Hopefully I get my visa in time, so I can book some probably overpriced tickets to get over there.

  6. So I have a bit of a complex situation. I own a UK company and am also the director. Can I work and manage my employees while I am in the USA waiting for the EAD?

What type of work is not allowed before getting the EAD? I plan to stop getting a salary after POE into the USA until I get EAD. But what about managing the company? Am I expected to stop communicating and doing anything business related while in the USA and waiting for the EAD?

This would probably destroy my business. What if I work but receive no money for it? Or can I pay my fiance in the USA to do the work for me? Would that be a good workaround?

Just don't want to break the law. But don't want to lose a business in the process.

Also once I get my EAD can I open up a US subsidiary company (LLC) for my UK one? Or can only citizens do that?

  7. Did you or your parents receive the following email from usvisa-info.com?

My CEAC status changed to "Issued" two days ago (interview was last Friday) and I received the above email this afternoon (5pm).

Might be worth checking the junk/spam folders of the email account used in your parents' paperwork. Good luck!

I was hoping to get an email from them yesterday. No such luck though. Had my interview last Tuesday, and CEAC said "Issued" on Thursday. Hopefully I can get the visa soon. Prices of flights are going up. I'm planning to book the next available flight as soon as I have my visa in hand.

  8. Husband went and paid the 30 pound fee already online :( not long later I found a convo on here about it not being that much.. Annoying ly too late of course. Our nearest depot is Livingston. 2 hrs away I think, wondered if you can catch it on its way up if need be, or if you have to decide ahead of time.

You can change the delivery until the day of your interview. You can also probably call the local depot when you get the email from the US Visa guys. You can find the numbers here.

  9. Since this is in the UK FORUM, I am speaking of London common practice only. The only thing odd is not keeping photocopies of your original documents. That is a fairly new practice that has been reported for a few weeks. So even that isn't odd anymore.

They have never wanted (in London) to see photos and proof of relationship at a K1 interview. The document collector has often kept only one proof of income for the interviewer to see and handed back the rest. The appointment letter and DS-160 confirmation are basically your "ticket" to get in the door and are not part of the decision, so never part of the paper file.

An expedite would only get you an earlier interview date. It wouldn't lessen your required interview documentation over any other K1 applicant.

    Congratulations on a successful interview.

The expedite was for the petition, not the K-1 part. But I wonder if it helped expedite everything. I got my I-129F petition approved in 15 days.

  10. Yeah I have my interview next week and I was surprised how little my embassy seems to require. On my interview letter it states that the embassy already has everything original copies, so there's really nothing i have to take except copies in case they want them. It's all making me tense!! Was your pack 2 inches thick because of all the evidence stuff?

I took different versions of my birth certificate, photocopies of everything and a bunch of supporting documents for the affadavit of support (e.g. tax returns for last 3 years, salary payments for last 6 months, her mortgage statement, her bank statements for last 6 months, etc...). I also took all my old passports, and photos, travel itineraries (those were big because we've flown out nearly 20 times in the last 2 years to see each other, we saw each other pretty much every month). And some other things.

It was definitely overkill. BUT, better to be safe than sorry!

Basically it seemed like I was fine. Maybe the have the interviews for processing people with unusual circumstances and something on the criminal record?

The guy was vaguely interested in our age gap though. Didn't care about her previous child from a former marriage. He was also interested in my career.

I was in a rush because I'm have a baby boy in a month, lucky my NOA1 to interview only took 75 days. I would have been destroyed if it took longer, as it would have meant I wouldn't get to see his birth!

  11. I went to my interview. The lady took only the following basic stuff:

    • Passport
    • 1 US Passport Sized Photo
    • Print out of the Instructions with the Courier Details on it
    • Interview Appointment Letter
    • DS-160
    • Deed of Name Change
    • Birth Certificate
    • Police Certificate
    • Affadavit of Support
    • Letter from my fiance's employer (she didn't want anything else, told me NO when I offered)

After looking at that at the first window she gave back my (and didn't want a photocopy of any documents, I asked and she said No again):

    • Interview Appointment Letter
    • DS-160

Then at the second window at the end after I got approved the guy back my:

    • Deed of Name Change
    • Birth Certificate
    • Police Certificate
    • Affadavit of Support
    • Letter from my fiance's employer (she didn't want anything else, told me NO when I offered)

So all they actually took was my Passport, US Passport Sized photo and print out of the Instructions with the Courier Details on it.

    .

None of the other stuff people mentioned. They didn't want to even see any proof of relationship, any additional supporting documents for the affadavit of support.

I took like 2 inches of paper, and they took 9 pages and gave them all back (apart from one). Odd, no? Anyone else experienced this? (The guy at the second desk did talk to me about the expedite request my fiance wrote, I wonder if that made things faster?)

  12. I've got the following for my interview:

    • DS-160 confirmation
    • Certified Copy of Handwritten and Typed Birth Certificate
    • Certified Copy of Name Deed Change for my dad and I
    • Police Certificate - No Trace
    • Updated Letter of Intent (to get married) from both my fiance and I.
    • I-134 Affidavit of Support

And 1 photocopy of the above too (also got 2 US passport photos) and my passport.

For the I-134 Affadvit of Support I've collected the following documents:

    • Letter from employer stating current salary (over $50k) and her promotion, also that she has been employed at the same place since 2007. She just got tenure (professor) so she can't get fired (says permanent position on the letter).
    • Letter of appointment for 2013-2014.
    • Letter of salary adjustment for 2013-2014
    • Paychecks October 2013 to May 2014
    • US Individual Tax Return for 2011, 2012, 2013
    • Retirement Fund for 2013
    • Bank Statements for November 2013 to April 2014 on both her bank accounts
    • Mortgage Statement for April 2014
    • Current Bank Balance for one of her 27 May 2014

Is that enough support or is something else needed? (The supporting documents total about 65 pages) I need to go photocopy the supporting documents.

Or is this overkill in supporting documents?

I also have a ton of flight itineraries and hotel bookings, and photos, etc... for proof of relationship. (Should I photocopy these too?)

If I give them all the stuff I have it will be over an 1 inch stack of paper.

Our baby is due soon, so I don't want to screw this up.

    Thanks for your help.

  13. I am planning to take the following:

    • some 50ish photos that I have gotten printed with me and her.
    • print out of over 10 flights for me and her, to show we have met each other, and hotel itinerary print outs
    • her divorce decree stating me and her are having a baby (it doesn't say when but due date is August) < Should I take this?
    • cards we have send to each other
    • updated letter of intent to marry

Do I need to take anything more? I don't really want to take my whatsapp/facebook/google hangout messages, as there are too many of them.

I am thinking of taking some phone bills and skype call logs so they can see we talk every day (about an hour or more each day).

I don't want to have any problems. Since things are especially tough with the baby coming so soon, so I want to be there as soon as possible.

I'm planning to get the next available flight out there when (hopefully) I get my visa in my hand, going to pick it up from the depot.

  14. I had my medical on the 2nd june (sent my readiness before then) My interview letter is dated the 9th june.

Edit: I got informed that my medical results would be at the embassy on the 5th June.

I also had my medical on the 2nd June. My interview letter is also dated 9th June. I wonder if I saw you at the doctors, I got the earliest slot though. I think it was 8.50am.

It takes about a week from the medical to get the interview letter (from what I've seen). Although it is a bit disappointing that Visajourney timelines don't have a section for the medical...

  15. So I've got my visa interview date. Less than 2 weeks away for my K-1 visa.

What is the fastest way to get the passport/documents back? To pick up from the depot (if so where is it)? Or home delivery? Also how do they inform you that the package has been dispatched (via email or letter)? Any other information would be great. I searched around but couldn't find a way to search just this forum, instead of the whole website.

Nervous about the interview, hope I've got everything (which I should). Then gotta book those tickets in July (most expensive time of the year).

Luckily I will be out in time to be there for the birth of my son in late July/early August!
