I am planning to send the package tomorrow, can anyone help me with one of few of my questions please?
Thank you
-
We don't have children from our marriage, I -GC holder- have custody of my son from a previous marriage (and he is US citizen) and he is listed in part 5 of I 751. Do I need to include his birth certificate?
Also I have the following questions in few parts of the form:
9. USCIS ELIS Acct number (if any) ....what is this information?
Mailing address
15.a. In Care of Name ....I am totally confused on this question.
Physical address
N/A because is as same as Mailing.
Biographic Information
2. Race (Select all applicable boxes)....I am Mexican and selected "Hispanic or Latino" in 1. Etnicity. I don't know what box to select on question #2.
We are not using any 3rd party or interpreter to fill up the from, so we are answering N/A in all boxes on part 9 and 10. Is this correct?
11. Additional information I can't see what other information I could add that I need to use this section. Am I missing something important?
Thank you in advance for your help.

I would add this: forget the utility bills. We didnt include a single one in our packet and had no issues whatsoever with ROC. This is a ridiculous requirement, but one that for some reason many in these forums tout heavily. I could add my dog's name to any utility bill. What does that prove? Stick with the reasonable and big ticket stuff like tax transcripts, life insurances, deeds, bank statements etc. These are things that are vey difficult to fake
I can attest to this statement. When adjusting status, as far as bills, we only sent the cellphone bill just because I owned the account for years and my husband needed a new phone and I included him in my plan and both our names are in the bill. He bought the house we live in from his mom years ago and some utility bills are still under her name. Only water bill is under his name and we never included my name on it. We presented other more solid evidence that we never received a RFE and we were approved in the spot.

90 days before the 2 year green card expires. You can file anytime within those ninety days before the 2 year green card expiration date
So this means the date I 751 is signed (assuming it is sent that day or the next). Also, I am reading different people getting their NOA's from a week to a month.
- Is the NOA the 1 year GC extension?
- what happens if someone sends the package days before GC expiration (within the 90 days window) and takes a month to receive the NOA?
- What evidence can be presented if required (i.e. to keep employment or apply for new jobs) that even when GC shows expired date, they are still waiting on the 1 year extension NOA?
Thank you

I just hope that the topic of this original post asking about SS card, someone who has a comment on it, can also comment on the second question which is a different topic.
thank you
-
What date is considered withing the 90 days window to file the I 751 petition, they date signed the forms? Day officially received by USCIS?
Thank you

I am going through the list of the documents I am sending copies, and I don't see SS card anywhere listed as evidence. I changed mine as soon as I could and now it shows my name as it appears in my green card. Would it be ok to include it in my packet? I am also sending updated transcripts ( few days ago as I just finished summer class) from the college I am enrolled. Our bank account shows payments for tuition and text books. Also, copy of school ID.
I have bills, car insurance, health-dental-vision-Rx card insurance, life and disability insurance showing me (petitioner) as 100% beneficiary, title of a new car we bought while in the process of adjusting status and now is paid in full, income tax return together from 2014 and 2015 with bank statement showing the money credited, W-2 and payment stubs from both of us. Airplane boarding pass, rental places, food, gas, rental car, for vacation taken in summer 2015 and 2016. Letter of employment from both of us, copies of our driver license (mine with named changed to married).
How many bank statements are considered sufficient? One per month for 2 years is a lot to send. Also sending copies of both debit cards.
I paid most of the regular expenses with my credit card because I get more points cash back than he does, and pay the balance each month using our checking account. How many CC statements should I send to show our regular expenses and where are they done (ex, same grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, etc).
I am not sure about sending any affidavits this time. I am confused on how important they are or not since I saw them listed in the USCIS instructions page, then a lot of people here say is secondary evidence. 2 years ago I sent 4 affidavits, I sent all possible evidence to not let any loose end.
Thank you
-
If affidavits are considered weak evidence, why are they listed as No. 5 in the list of evidence in the instructions on how to fill up I 751 according to uscis website? page 6/10 . Please clarify. Thank you

Hello!
I finally managed to reset my password to have access again! I know it is not complicated but I kept getting "ooooops" over and over until I got it. I am in the process to fill up I 751, I have all the evidence ready. Ever since my GC was approved, I have been swamped with school and also working full time. I am planning to send the package next week no later than midweek. "Christophec" I remember your profile, glad to see you are also in the process of ROC.

Wow!
It looks like you're having a real life. I'm happy for you! I've been in school and working as well (not full time though).
Thanks for checking-in here.
Thank you! hope everyone is doing great and enjoying life

Hello everybody! I hope you all are doing great. I stopped by to say hi and give an update on me. Since I got my green card last August I went back to college, Fall was a crazy busy semester while working part time. I managed to get a 3.35 GPA, was accepted in the Honors program and got 5 much needed holiday weeks. I just started Spring semester this week, taking only 3 classes this timeattending on the evenings. I also got a new full time job the beginning of this year, I work for a giant oil & chemical company at the corporative accounting deparmet. Some days when I take the bus back home I can't believe how blessed I have been and how wonderful yet busy my life is since I became a LPR. This week I also received my first official pay check with all the deductions and stuff, I am so going to frame it!
Life is going too fast already, I have to set up all kind of reminders for May 2016 when we have to file for ROC.
Hope everyone is doing great and enjoying the American life!

Nobody even stop mexicans and u expect them to stop u... Anyway, even if they stop u,by checking on computer they will let u go
uh?
-
I dont think somebody gonna stop u on a street and ask for ur status. If u have a Driver Licence and ID,it already mean u r legally here
I had valid DL during the whole time I was out of status ( several years ) and that didn't prove I was legally here by any means. No one is going to stop you on the street to ask you for GC; having your GC it is a requirement stated by USCIS in the letter that comes with the GC. My choice is to follow their rules. Anyone else can choose different and that is fine with me.
Another thing about getting DL with EAD, is that it has the same expiration date as EAD ( ond year) and mine says it so with RED CAPITAL letters on top of it. If I get pull over due a traffic incident, when showing my renewed DL they will want to find out why it has a specifit expiration date wich is less than the rest of the peoplo who are not conditional residents.

When you receive your GC and read throughly the letter that comes with it, it clearly says we MUST carry the GC with us AT ALL TIMES. I did not read anything there that says that we can make a photo copy of it and it would be just as valid. I carry mine and I am extremely extra exagerating careful with my wallet. happens and anyone can lose a wallet or get it stolen, it is a risk that has to be taken. For that matter, is is valid to show a photo copy of DL to the police officer if one gets pull over? would that be good enough? then why showing a copy an importat document such a GC would be good enough? But what I don't want to risk is to be in a situation where I am asked to probe my status and I show a copy of my GC, I want to have the document avilable just as I have my DL and State ID with me at all times. It is a personal decision, and mine is to carry the original with me anywhere I go, including concerts or amusment parks, which we go quite often.
I also read a thread in this website of someome mentioning that if we make photocopies of federal documents such the GC, it is illegal. I don't know much about it but I just follow the instructions and do not make my life more complicated that what it needs to be..

Thank you for your reply. I am also looking into scholarships now that I know my status allow me to apply for them also.

Hello,
I went back to college right after my GC got approved and it was really nice to pay in district tuition; but after books for 5 classes, my husband spent quite a bit of money. I already registered for Spring semester, going full time again, and payment is due until January. My question is, can I apply for financial aid with my conditional GC? or is it only a privilege for USC?
Thank you
-
Congrats! Once we all get to the ROC stage, we all will be within the same ballpark for submitting paperwork. I would expect we will continue to see one another on the support threads on that forum.
Correct! I will be applying for ROC on May of 2016 as conditional GC expires on August 20, 2016

Hope not! I dont want to wait too long
I am so sorry you are still waiting! have you consider using an infopass and ask what is going on with your case?

I received my green card yesterday! Went to SSA this morning to update my card. They told me I only have to come back one more time after I become a citizen! Whew!! I also start a new job week after next. Feeling very blessed right now.
I wish everyone luck with this process and i'm happy to be taking a break for 2 years.
Ugh !! I haven't gone to SSA yet after all these weeks!! I went back to college right after I got my GC, I am full time student, part time job in the afternoons and family responsibilities absorb every minute of my time :-( even the weekends! I spend them studying for exams or doing homework. I actually forget I still have to take care of this issue because I am so so so busy!

Approved! And we got the card in production email 20 minutes later!
We arrived at Federal Plaza around 12:30 for our 1pm appointment. The place was dead. No line at security and maybe 8 people in the enormous waiting room. We were called in ahead of most of them around 1:15 by Officer Williams who did not crack a single smile until the very end. She also sat at a desk 3 feet away from us while asking us questions.
She asked for the marriage certificate and my (USC) citizenship proof first. Then she asked for all our marriage proof. I had separated my documents into financial, non-financial and travel docs so I handed over the financial stuff in a pile. I never got to give her the other docs. She asked for pictures and I gave her our album from which she took 3-4 photos. She also asked for my husband's birth certificate, EAD card and social security card. She questioned us for a while back and forth as she did this (and while she flipped through our file and checked things on her computer). The questions I remembered:
To me:
- when's his bday?
- how did you meet?
- where did you meet the first time?
- where did he work when you met him?
- what does he do?
- where did he live when you met him?
- when did your relationship start getting serious? wasn't that a bit soon? (he moved in with me after 1.5 months)
- what do you two have in common?
- what are his parents names?
- where is he from?
- when did you meet?
- when did you first travel together? Where did you go?
- where else have you traveled?
To him:
- when is her bday?
- what was the date of your marriage?
- who attended your wedding?
- what are her parents names?
- where do they live?
- what is her brother's name?
- where does he live?
- how many brothers does she have?
- what do you do for work?
- what does your wife do?
- where does she work?
I recently quit my job, so we handed her a new i-864 and about 30 pages of supporting docs showing my assets, which she flipped through briefly. Then after about 30 minutes she said "Congratulations, you're approved". We mentioned to her that we were leaving the country today and she put an enormous stamp in my husband's passport. That was the only point she started smiling because the stamp was kept in a cute little makeup bag that I commented on. After that, she was a bit warmer.
Also, she took ALL the financial docs, but I had to ask for the original copies of our lease and a few other documents back, so she made copies - something you might want to be prepared for.
In the end, it was definitely stressful and not as relaxed as other interviews I've read about, mostly because the officer was so stern and serious, but I can't complain since we got approved on the spot! We were having lunch across the street when we got the email that his card was in production.
I'm super thrilled it's over! Now off to Canada!
Congratulations!!

We were asked about 8-10 questions ( mostly from I-485) and it seemed like were already approved before interview. IO barely looked at pictures and didn't even ask for USC birth certificate, divorce decrees or our marriage certificate. We were approved on spot and we were not drilled with endless questions. If I had read this post before my interview I would be freaked out. The list of questions looks scary, but I am glad you were approved.

When I took my EAD to SSA, I received my card with "Valid for work only with DHS authorization" on it. Do I have to go update it again based on my greencard or does the message stay the same?
I have not gone to SSA yet to have my SS card updated yet. I wanted to wait until I had my GC in hand, and now that I have it ( over a month ago) I have not had time to go. I am swamped with school, work and family. I hope to make time next week because now I have not excuses.

I sent in a copy of our bank statements with the package. Do I have to bring a more recent one? If so, how many?
You never know, bring the most recent statements so they can see your account is current. We also submitted a copy of our bank statement, but we brought the two most recent ones and IO took note of that as part of new evidence.

Please anyone can help me with few last questions filing I 751. I have all the copies of documents required as well as evidence of bonafide marriage. All I need is to complete the aplication form, print it, sign it and make copies of it along with the check and send the package. I want to send it tomorrow but I have few more questions. I posted them as a new topic and out of 92 views no one had any answers I guess.
I am the petitiones of RoC and I have a child from previous marriage who is listed in part 5. Do I need to submit a copy of his birth certificate? He is US citizen.
Part 1 Physical address
17.a. In Care Of Name...what is the answer for this part?
Part 2 Biographic information
1. Ethnicity. I checked HISPANIC OR LATINO ( I am Mexican)
2. Race . I can't relate to any of the options after reading the explanation of each...what should I check here?
I am filling up the form, we are not using help from a 3rd party, so I should write N/A on part 9,10 and all the boxes that don't apply including part 11?
I hope anyone can help me with the previous questions so I can send my package tomorrow. I had a great deal of help 2 years ago while preparing my AOS, on the May thread we all help each other as well as on the general AOS forum. I have been MIA until now, I hope things hasn't changed much as far as people helping each other.
Thank you in advance.
