  1. I received an email from the consulate telling me it's ready for pick up. BTW, the Loomis location in Montreal is in a secluded area. I don't have car so I had to take the bus and I was so lost. It was the worst experience in my life (REALLY) and I do not wish this on anyone. The building doesn't even have Loomis written on it, it was some other name I can't remember.

I would have opted for home delivery (extra $$$) but I am not home most of the day (I work) and no one is at home to get it for me.

Ugh but finally I have the envelop and my passport and ready to get out of this hell whole (WINTER!)

  2. So I receive an email from the consulate + Loomis saying they have picked up the passport at the consulate and will be ready for pick up in a couple of days. I received that email on February 12... Apparently on the instructions it said that they will email + call to confirm when it's ready for pick up. I didn't receive any call.

    This is the message:

Your passport has been picked up from the Consular Section and within the next few days you will be able to pick it up at:

    DHL Lachine HOLD FOR PICKUP
    2355 32nd AVENUE

    LACHINE, QC
    H8T3G9

    Your Waybill Number is...

When I click on the waybill number:

    Loomis info:

2015-02-12 18:47 Picked Up by Loomis LACHINE 2015-02-12 18:43 In Facility LACHINE 2015-02-12 00:00 Shipment Record Received LACHINE

Do I wait ???? What do I do? Does it mean I can pick up ?

  3. We asked our Justice of the Peace if we could hand-carry the signed marriage license to the courthouse ourselves. He consented. At the courthouse that same day, we ordered 7 marriage certificates, which were created while we waited. Check to see whether you can do similarly, if rapid turnaround is important.

*** Thread moved from K-1 Process forum to the AOS/Family-Based main forum -- topic involves AOS. ***

    Thanks that's a good idea :)

  4. Hi,

My fiance and I are planning to marry in a Church. I am planning to move to the U.S. in mid-May (I received my K1 visa last week). I know we have 90 days to marry, that's what we are going to do... but it would probably be in August maybe 2 weeks before the visa expires... How long do we have to adjust Status? Does it have to be before the 90 days are up? I mean we would legally be married before the visa expires it's just the AOS part that I am worried we won't have enough time.

How long does it usually take to get the marriage certificate in the U.S.? (not the license but the certificate that says that you are married on this date)

  5. Its only the 265$ USD fee for the K1 VISA that you pay online when you file the DS-160. I didn't pay any other fee.

My consulate officer actually told me that I was approved and said Welcome to the U.S... and handing me a paper which were basically instructions on how to track through DHL and what I needed to do after I entered the U.S. and married.

  6. Hello every one!!

After a year of going through this process, my K1 VISA was approved today at the consulate!

I am so ecstatic it's insane!! The consulate officer was really nice and made jokes during the interview. He said that my case was the most solid that he had this week. He was happy that my case wasn't complicated and the interview only lasted 5-10 minutes. The security screening and waiting in the room was way longer (probably 15-30 minutes).

FYI, you only need 2 pictures at the Montreal Consulate. AND you definitely need W2 AND form 1040 as proof that you meet income requirements. He didn't look at my fiance's bank statement or any other financial assets that he has.

All you need to do is be concise and be ready to answer any question truthfully and you will be approved on the spot.

Maybe because I am from Canada, and it's a low fraud country, that it went smoothly. Not sure for other countries.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!! Be patient and everything will be OK.

  7. You probably did but you need to have proof (vaccination cards). I went for my medical exam on the 19th and I had to get tetanus (you need to get it every 10 years) and the flu shot. It cost me around 70$ extra.

  8. Hi,

Quick questions, what are proof of residency in the U.S.? I have his driver's license and his bank statement, pay stub, taxes (My fiance is in the navy).

Also, is it frown upon if I don't enter the U.S. right away after obtaining the u.s. visa? The reason why I ask is because I only intend to move to the u.s. in 4 months (because of my job and his)...

We plan on getting married in a Church mid august, it's already in the works he's speaking to someone at the church.

Have any of you married in Church on a K1 visa ?? Or do most people marry first in court then in church ?

  9. Hi every one!

I just scheduled my interview at the Montreal Consulate. I received the confirmation to my e-mail with the list of documents needed.

Weird thing though, on the checklist it clearly says 2 identical pictures... yet on the confirmation email it says to bring 3 identical pictures.

I already have 2 pictures taken... now I am afraid I will have to go back and take a set of 4 identical pictures (they only come in sets of 2)... oh boy....

Can any one confirm how many are needed?

  10. 1. If you don't know just leave it blank.

    That's what I did.

    2. Income is always calculated BEFORE taxes. As you never know how much you would be taxed. Always on papers put before tax.

I get an annual income from my job, I know exactly how much i'll get every pay/month... taxes are the same every pay for me anyway. ;)

  11. 1. If you don't know just leave it blank.

    2. Income is always calculated BEFORE taxes. As you never know how much you would be taxed. Always on papers put before tax.

It doesn't allow me to continue if I leave it blank... It's all in red.

I don't want to put 'I do not know' in the name and date of birth because I do know who he is, I just don't know where he lives.

Ok for the income. thanks ;)

What about the phone number they are asking in the employment portion? Which number do I put ? My employer ? I work at a bank... I guess human resources ?

  12. hi!

Our petition was approved since August. We are now in the process of sending DS-160 form.

    A few questions:

    1. If I do not know where my father lives, can I just put DO NOT KNOW in the address section? I know his name and date of birth but we have not been talking for years now...

    2. In the employment section, they ask for month income, is this net income (after all taxes, etc.) ?

    thanks for all your help!

  13. Hi my fiance is in the military too he is currently deployed we sent our app in february 2014 and received our noa2 in mid august. So you should count 6 months from the time you send your app. Then once you receive your noa2 you have 4 months to send docs to your embassy once you have received your packet 3.

The visa is good for 6 months from the date the visa is issued. It will say on the visa itself. They are very good with military folks dont worry...
