  1. I hope someone can guide me thorugh this question. Now that my parents have received their visa and will be coming to US in October this year, I have started looking into options for their health care. They are both abive 65 and even though they fall under seniors residents (and not citizens), I am cusrious to know the following:

I know for a fact that they dont qualify for Medicare. They dont qualify for Medicaid oratleast the first five years.

From tax point of view I am just in a limbo what to dof or next year. I would love to claim them as dependents on my returns but then if I do claim them then my income (or the household income) will be used to determine their income for any benefits. Not even that but lets say God forbid there is some emergency then the hospital would use the total household incoem to see their eligibility for any forgiveness.

Now if I do file their returns separate and show zero income, would it really help i terms of them getting a lower rate or benefits or would my incoem still play into effect even though for tax purposes they are not part of my household. Should I just file them as depedents for next year?

I tried calling healthcare and they told me that it depends. They cant give me exact figures but they told me this that they dont qualify for Medicaid or Medicare but they maybe able to qualiy for something else. And the premium would depend on whether I am claim them as dependents or they file their own return. I giess there is upsight to both. Claiming them on my return would be great as I can take advantage of tax credits or have them file and show zero income and then see what to do from there.

  3. The waiting part really sucks and yes the embassy in Islamabad is very unpredictasble. I herd some stories here on VJ where I felt like that it should have been a clean cut case but people have been on AP for months. I guess nobody knows why or for what reason a case goes on AP. If a person has provided everything and the case has been approved by NVC then its beyond my scope of understanding as to what makes the COs put a case on "further processing". Feel for for people and hope that every single case on AP gets to hear a good news soon.

I would , however, like to share one thing. I have applied for cases when I was going through for myself and now my parents so I am kind of familiar of how their though process is when they are looking into our paperwork. I for one have always send more documents then what they have asked for. Its better to send them more then to sit and aowt for them to issue some sort of RFE or at this stage to put the case on AP. For my parents I have sent them copies of all previous passports and also things like copies of their NADRA ID card. Now NVC never asks for these things but I sent them anyways. I rmeebr at USCIS stage they wanted to see more proof that I am indeed their son so I had to send in my school documents, copies of my parents passports going back to 1990, atleast about 100 pictures. The point is that if you think that they may not require or have asked for any documents, just send it.

I have been going through this process for about 4-5 years now ... first my greencard then my citizenship and now my parents greencard and thats I all have been doing and it has worked for my so far.

  4. My visa status changed to "Issued"!!! But I wasn't able to check until I got home from Sydney. I also got a letter from the Consulate saying that the visa had been printed.

    Sukie

Hmmmm ok ok. I guess I am just being too impatient. I need to give couple of days to see any change in status. Also soncsidering tomorrow is July 4th, all the consulates will be closed and the people will be off so it may take couple of days for them to update the status. I just hope within 2 weeks means less than 2 weeks.

  5. I have read many times that if they take your passport you have your Visa and if they give it back you DO NOT HAVE VISA so I would say, CONGRATULATIONS I'M SO VERY, VERY HAPPY FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. I'm so happy for you and your parents. :D:dance:

Thank you Soloenta. I hope its moving in the right direction just like ou mentioned. The CO actually said within 2 weeks. I just cofirmed with my mother. She told me that she asked the CO twice whether he meant 20 or 15 days and he said within 15 days so ...... I really hope to see two passports with two visa within 2 weeks.

  6. Livstrong,

When we finished our interview, the gentlemen told us that my spouse was approved. We got no slip of paper. However, the people who interviewed with the woman in the next "booth" DID get a slip of paper. I think it must be optional. I know we are OK, because we got my spouse's passport back in the mail today (2 days later!).

Hopefully your parents' passports will be back in their hands soon!

    Sukie

Thank you Sukie and I really hope you are correct.

I guess I am just concerned about how sometimes they put cases under AP review. I have read stories here on VJ where everything goes fine even the interview is approved but the people dont get their passports for 3-6 months. In those cases they get 221g letter (i guess thats what its called) where they tell them that they need to do futher processing. In my parents cases they didnt give them anything so ...... it seems like a good sign and the fact that CO himself said that both the passports and visa will be issued within 20 days.

Did you by any chance check the visa status after the interview? Was there any change in status?

    Thanks

  7. Hello Everyone. Just trying to get an idea if the following happened to anyone.

My parents went for their interview. CO asked only 3 simple questions and then looked at some pictures. Afterwards he kept their passports and told them that everything is ok and they should expect their passports with the visas within 20 days. Now it does sound like a very good news and I am very much happy but I thought approved or not the CO should have given them some sort of letter stating that the interview has been approved or something. Right? He didn't give them any letter or any colored slip ..... nothing.

I tried checking their visa application status right now .... about 3 hours after the interview and the status still says "READY". I am assuming will change within a day to reflect the correct status.

    Anyone else experienced this ?

  8. Hello !!!

I got my medical report and X-RAY and doctor told me that you have to bring this report to interview only and not X-RAY ..

X-RAY will show on the POE in USA .....Is it true ??????

Please share your experience who have done their interview in Islamabad

I think so too because my parents got their medical done and it seems like their x-ray was given to them on a CD. So there is another sealed envelope and a vacciation card. I just made sure that after ots done I told my mom to ask one of the nurses if everything is ok or do we have to be concerned about anything. So far so good.

  9. one question if u can guess I call NVC on june 12th 2014 and they said my case was completed that day and on june 19th a received the letter that my case was completed when do u think I will get the email with my appointment? ??

Check out the following link. Click on Case Complete to Interview Spreadsheet. This will give you an idea as to how long it could take. See if Peru is on the list. I am thinking you should hear something about the date of interview by the end of this month. Within this month I mean.

    http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/493906-june-2014-interviews/

  10. Hi collie one question when u got your case completed, did u call NVC ? or did u receive an mail on april 24th saying that your case was completed? And what day did u receive the email for you appointment?

You get an email in about a week from when the case actually gets completed. The only way you can find out is by calling NVC .... and I mean calling everyday to see if the case has been completed.

After that it all depends on your embassy's availability. Sometimes people get appointment letter the same day the case gets completed and sometimes they have to wait for 1-2 weeks. In my case it was about week and a half.

  11. Hello everyone,

I do not have a complete timeline on my processing but my mother just passed her interview today at Mumbai (India) Embassy. The interview process went very smoothly and she was only asked two questions:

    1. what does your daughter do?

    2. what did she (me - the daughter) look like as a child?

That's it. They said she passed her interview and will get her visa in mail within a week. Although I was not active on here, I followed this topic daily and so thank you to everyone who contributed and answered my questions before I even asked.

    Pallavi

Congratulations. I hope for my parents its as easy and simple as your mom's interview. Almost 2 weeks to go now.

  12. Hi guys, this question is to anyone who had a checklist at nvc!!!! I had a checklist back in may 7th 2014 and sent all the papers they need on may 10th 2014 and when I called they they received it on the 13th... how long does it take for nvc to review those documents? Cause until today it has been 20 days with no answer please help me... I've been waiting so long..

Its about 20 business days. They say to wait for 30 business days but in about 20 days they do work on the case so you should be able to receive some sort of correspondence in a day or two.

Received IL today! My dad's interview is on 7/16 at 6:15am! Doing the happy dance! Pls update my timeline :)

Yup ... same for me. Congratulations to you.

  13. This is from another forum that someone wrote...... Heard it works well, you might have to play with the dates a lil.

Quote... Hi brothers and sisters we all have that curiosity to know when our cases arrived at the embassy ,so i tried to find out how and it took me a lil while from what i been reading in some topics here they told how but when i tried never worked but when i just tried simple thing found it worked and got the track # and where is our files now just follow those simple steps and you will get to

1- when you know from AVR that your case was forward to embassy ( mm/dd/yyyy) lets take an example case forward to embassy March 20th 2009

    2- go to DHL TRACK

3- then under track list click on track reference

4- put the reference in this shape EXP19MAR2009A and push track

now we seen its completed in 2oth but we searched in 19th yes because they schedule shipping day before so DHL know in advance when they will ship it so day before will be your exact day for NVC shipping your case to your embassy

i tried it this way and worked but i found 2 cases to cairo so which one is mine dosent matter as along as i can keep an eye on it for sure the month will be changing just the example above for explanation

Thank you Neka. Btw how long did it take in your case to actually receive interview email and when was it actually sent out from NVC? I guess based on the difference in days I will start checking mine too.

My parents had their interview this morning in London and were approved :D Finally after 15 months, we are done. I will post a detailed review when I Skype with them this weekend, but they were asked the following:

    Who I was

    Where I lived

    What did I do

When they were planning to go to the US

Where they were going to live when they got there

My Mum was also asked a trick question asking if she had been to Colorado before as there was someone there with her maiden name. Weird question to ask but she answered no and told the immigration person that you can't catch me out, lol!

Thank you to everyone who has helped me with questions along the way, especially Saylin and D-Wheels. I couldn't have got through all the paperwork without all your expert advice. To anyone else that is still waiting, keep the faith and you will be reunited with your family soon :)

Congratulations. That's an awesome news. Now I am assuming they will be sending the passports with Visa via email? Right

  14. to all IR 5 from the Philippines.Do you need to get an additional vaccine when you get in the US?please clarify because the staff in ST Luke told me to get the 2 vaccine when you are in the US .I am confused.Help guide me thru , thanks

What they mean to say is that you need booster shots. So yeah some vaccines require 2-.3 doses with a gap of 6-12 months. You might need booster shots.

  15. My case was completed on May 20th, but they said no interview date yet. it sucks man

Wow ..... really.well i do some people getting interview dates around the same time. Maybe it has something to do with the capacity or scheduling at the local US Consulate. Well I dont even know how are tings at the local US consulate at my end. I am just hoping for something good.

  16. Well .... atleast they are still scheduling July interviews. That gives me some hope. Just called in to see if they have issued an interview date for my cases and the answer was NO. So I thought I might as well should ask them if they are still schduling July interviews and the answer was YES. So really hope to hear something good this week.

  17. So, I am giving my dad my last updated Tax return package for 2014 in case he needs to have that for his interview. Does anyone know about this? Also, is it possible for me to send my package scanned to him so he can take a copy, or does he need to the originals?

    Thank you!

Copy is good. There is no originals. IF you filed online then it is trasmitted electronically and if you filed by m,ail the priginal was already submitted. All you can do is show a copy of the filed return. That is what I am going to do also.

For their interview I am sending a package with pretty much all the dopcuments or theior copies already submitted here just incase if the office wants to see something. Just to be on the safe side. Although you are not required to or they shouldnt be asking your parents for any of the documents already submitted here but its better to be safe then not having something on the spot. So once I get the interview date, I am going to send a package of all the documents or copies.
