Received my shiny new Green Card yesterday!
Interestingly, it is for 10 years from the date of the APPROVAL of my petition to remove conditions, so March 2018 to March 2028.
The initial approval letter read more like it was going to be from my date of admission (IE, 2014). Anyway, I'M DONE!!
I will not be applying for citizenship, just maintaining my residency.Good luck to all.
SO here's an interesting turn of events - just got notice I need to return my Green Card as there is incorrect info - I'll assume that the expiry date is wrong and that it should be from the date of my original admission to the USA back in December 2014, so should expire 2024??
Anyway, I'm supposed to be receiving a postage paid envelop with instructions and to mail it back within 20 days of receiving the request to return. Sheesh, what a gong show! Here's a link to the recall if anyone else is interested. Luckily I don't need to travel anywhere out of country in the near future (barring emergencies) so really not a big deal, other than being a pain in the butt!

Good luck to all.Peace.

Is this the CRI89 number or the other number?
The other number - The receipt number off your extension letter.
If it wasn't for Visa Journey I wouldn't have bothered to check the extension letter number, had just been following the CR89 number!! -

is the date on ur NOA1 10/26? I am a 10/24 filer, hopefully will hear something form them soon.
Yes - so shocked, only found out 2 days ago that my file had been 'received at local office February 26".
But not complaining!
Good luck and hope you get your approval soon! -
Well, that escalated quickly.
Colour me happy and relieved to be done with this immigration circus for 10 years!
Best of luck to all October filers!

My Noa is 10/13/16 and this morning I received an email that action has been taken in my case .I went to check uscis.dhs.gov web site and it states that my case was approved . On the standard USCIS website it doesn’t say anything only that they received my case in local office on Feb 5th . The case tracker app which I was monitoring doesn’t say anything as well . Question : Can I trust this notification or I still might get FEF or interview ?
That's great news, congratulations! I just found out my file was sent to 'local office' as of February 26, so hopefully my approval is not far behind!

Hi Sylea, Your timeline says your NOA1 is on November 19, 2016. Can you double check and if it is October 2016, I can add you in the list
Hi and thanks mycase17 - looks like I got my NOA dates mixed up.
I've just edited my timeline to reflect my NOA I-797 dated October 28/2016. I think I was using the date off the biometrics form I-797C, which was November 19th.
I've just entered the receipt number into my USCIS case status and as of February 26th, 2018 my file was transferred to my 'local office' (not sure what that means?). So there's been movement, which is good!
Anyway, if you can add me to the list for October filers, that would be great.Good luck and speedy Green Cards to all! (with no RFE!!!
)

I filed my I751 on October 26, 2016 - do not see myself in the list of filers?
So done with this immigration stuff! Hope they get to my case soon - USCIS case status site is a joke - just shows they received my application October 28, no other updates since then. And oh yes, they 'waived the fee'.Nice to see some of the California October filers are getting approvals!
-
I just now realized I'd been following December filers, when in fact that is when I did my Biometrics. I actually filed in late October 2017.
So I guess I should be following this thread - I believe my file is at CSC. Ugh.Had my info pass in October in Detroit and got my one year extension of my one year extension......
Any news on CSC files? The other day said they were working on Aug 3, 2016 - I just checked again and now it says July 27, 2016.
What a gong show. -
Another clarification - I believe our ROC file is in California Service Centre ( I am in Michigan).
Sounds like they must be much further behind than Vermont.

Haven't been on here in a while, thought I'd provide an update.
After being told by USCIS 1-800 earlier in the year that my 1 year extension letter expired in Dec 2017 (the one year anniversary of my 2 yr conditional residency) I was told to make an infopass appointment to get my passport stamped.
I called USCIS 1-800 again in September 2017 to confirm what I needed to do, and was then told that my extension letter actually expired ONE YEAR FROM DATE OF ISSUE, not 1 year from original residency. This meant my extension expired in October!
Mad panic to get infopass appointment at the Detroit field office (a four hour drive from home) to make sure I could get my stamp.Booked appointment, drove out the night before and got a hotel room. Arrived at heavy security mad house Detroit field office early, but also got called to a desk nearly 45 minutes before scheduled appointment time, so that was ok. Very nice officer then told me I was a month too early to get my passport stamped as my extension letter expired in DECEMBER! Argh!
The officer, when finding out how far we had come and that we had incurred the expense of a hotel, agreed to stamp my passport early - I now have an extension to October 2018.Lessons learned from this: Never trust the info you are given by the 1-800 number - call more than once with the same question to see what answers you get!
Also, the officer told me that the USCIS Processing time website is not accurate - I mentioned that the I-751 date of files worked on showed July, but he felt it in reality it was more like April or May 2016. He DID say he was confident I would get my 10 year green card before October 2018, but that if I did not, I just had to make another Infopass appointment and get another stamp.Anyway, that's my long winded story - good luck to all!

Hi all - Received my NoA late October 2016 and I had my biometrics done December 8th. There is still no update when I log into my USCIS Case status.
I see California Processing Centre is at June 7, 2016.
Anyone have any other updates??
Thanks. -
Yeah, we think we'll probably end up using them. Our stuff is in storage right now, we're moving in with my soon to be mother-in-law for a little while. It'll give us more time to save for them
Unfortunately they aren't available in Halifax.
Thanks for the responses!
Upack and Ship Smart were not available in Kelowna BC either, that's why we went with a regular moving company.

Sorry to hear so many have had problems. I arrived in US on December 25th and received my SS card in mail 1st week of January. So I guess the HS officer I dealt with did his work properly??
Got my green card 3 weeks after that!
It's sure nice not to have to be following up on anything now!!
Cheers and best of luck to all!
Peace.

I used United Van Lines and they were excellent. Not cheap, but not over the top expensive either. (at least, not for our particular budget). Have not heard of the other 2 you've referenced.
Best of luck with your move.
Peace.

My Canadian taxes were okay. I didn't get nearly the refund I thought I would but at least it was something. There are a bunch of extra forms you need and they will send you a T4A for your tax return.
For the US taxes you file a form 2555 to have an exemption for your Canadian earnings.
Hey NLR - did you just file the form 2555 with the IRS on your first year in the US?? I will have to file CAD income tax for 2014 (left my job mid December) so do I qualify for the foreign income exemption?? My husband will be filing his US tax return as 'married filing jointly'.
Just curious if you know.
Peace.

First thing I unpacked when the movers arrived last week was my PS2 and PS3. LOL
Now I game mainly with my son and step son when they visit. Sometimes by myself. Hubby will watch but not play.
My hubby and I met in Second Life, not really a video game, but some people call it that.............................
Peace all.

Congratulations! Have a great trip down and enjoy your new life!

YAY!
Yay is right, NLR!! Now I can start to feel like I actually DO live here, and that I'm not on extended vacation.......LOL
Will be very interested to see which box was opened of the 50 I packed.......
Peace.

Hi - I've just used WIlliams Moving and Storage (moving from Kelowna to Michigan, so similar distance to you!)
The cost for hubby and I to rent a Uhaul and move my 50 boxes and a couple bookcases ourselves, when we factored in air fares, gas, motels, meals and the cost of the truck rental was $5000.
Williams Moving and storage has just cost us $5164 USD.
Other than a slight fright about border guys not accepting Cr-1 visas, my stuff JUST crossed the border yesterday and I should have delivery this Friday.
Moving company went out of their way to assist with getting my stuff here quickly and efficiently.
Good luck!!
Can I also just add that I would have like to have used Upack or ShipSmart, but neither company serviced my area in the Interior of BC. I think they DO service Calgary though?
Interestingly, Williams Moving is an affiliate of United Van Lines, and were extremely knowledgeable about moving goods from Canada to US and also internationally. Although I freaked out when I was told that United wanted front and back of my actual green card, turns out they were being extra cautious on my behalf due to some recent CR-1 visas being turned back at the border because of CBP agents who didn't know what they were doing. It all worked out and there was no trouble with my stuff getting across. Good luck with your journey!
Peace.

After my initial freak out last week, I'm happy to report that my goods were admitted yesterday, with one box opened and inspected (I'm suspecting my cat's catnip toys, LOL) and no additional charges.
I expect delivery of them this Friday.
So alls well that ends well.
Peace all.

Hi everyone!! Does anybody have any advice or experience in freight shipping personal belongings from Canada to the U.S.? (Specifically Calgary to New England). We are exploring this option vs driving it here. It's not a bunch of stuff just about 2 pallets of boxes, no furniture etc. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Update - just had a lovely conversation with a fellow from Service Canada, after calling to follow up to make sure they received my faxed questionnaire. He was super friendly, and explained the whole process.
We did a report for my first 3 weeks, where he basically said if I wasn't in the process of travelling and moving, would I have been ready and able to work, and I said yes. He said good.
I indicated I have already been making calls and talking to people about work in the area, but that I was waiting for movers to come before I considered myself fully available to work. He said this was fine.
The person handling my claim was away today, but he said I could expect some paperwork in the next week or so.
Always shocked and a very nice surprise to get a friendly helpful government clerk!
Peace.

Thanks to all and sorry for any confusion. Yes, I made my POE on Christmas Day.
I've spoken to the head office of the movers, and what has happened is that (1) the person I was dealing in Vancouver with did not deliver their information to me properly, and (2) turns out United Van Lines has been having shipments turned back at various border crossings with just the CR-1 Stamped Visa.
Appears to be random CBP officers who are either stupid or in a bad mood or both.
The very helpful UVL rep I spoke to was really just giving me the option to wait until I had the actual card so as to avoid additional charges. The storage fees to leave my stuff where it is for a couple months or however long it takes to get my card are around $250 a month, so not completely onerous. The charges if the driver gets turned back or delayed for inspection can be far worse than that.
So they're giving me the option to wait or to take a chance and get it shipped. Have to hope that my card turns up quickly - I paid for it via ELIS on October 24th, anyone know how long after POE I should expect to wait to see an update?? I'm guessing with the holidays thrown in there that I might see an update to my status from "Accepted" and Pending to Issued/activated or whatever the term is they use on that site. Tried to get through to USCIS, but as usual it's pretty impossible.
Fingers crossed this doesn't take too long!! I want my stuff!!
Peace all.
Just an update - after several back and forth calls and emails, my stuff has been loaded onto a truck and is making it's way to me. The moving company's head office have been extremely helpful and managed to get a couple of emails printed off from their CBP contacts who confirmed my stuff can be imported with my endorsed passport. I've decided to remain positive that my stuff will get through with no problems. It's 50 boxes and a couple bookcases, so can't imagine why they would need to inspect it.
Anyway, it should arrive sometime before the end of the month......
Peace.
