  1. I said "your rules" not "his rules", I meant them as a couple.

Parents will always miss their children but sometimes it isn't in their best interest to visit sometimes.

It'll be almost two years when I see my mom again and she understands and respects that because we just cannot afford it and my husband only gets one week holiday a year too.

So I completely understand where the OP is coming from.

I wasn't saying it in a horrible way because obviously her mom misses her, but at the end of the day that's life, you can't always do what you want to do.

Ok gotcha lol I took that completely wrong. Yeah, it is understandable

  2. I think that was one of the problems.

Why would he want to work all day and then spend all of his free time driving them around?

OP- you just have to tell your MIL that now is not a good time for a vacation on either side and that you want to plan a nicer vacation for next year so your wife will get to spend time with all of her family and you wouldn't have to worry about money or time off.

I'm afraid you're just going to have to literally be the man of the house and tell her it's your rules.

I know MiLs are very important but if you can't do it then you can't do it.

It's more important now for your wife to learn how to drive which costs money and maybe find a job and find social activities to find friends.

His rules? lol I think this is something a couple should decide TOGETHER and come to a compromise. I would completely understand if my husband's mom missed him but at the same time his mom isn't passive aggressive but still, that's her mom, she misses her daughter.

Yeah, that's a possibility and pretty reasonable. I think the part where I get a little irritated is where I get the feeling she doesn't completely understand that her daughter made the choice to leave and move here. At least, I hope that's not the case.

Yeah, I understand your frustration. I know some in laws can be difficult. I don't know what that is like anymore because my MIL is amazing, wonderful and I love her so much and we hope to get her here after my husband becomes a citizen :)

  3. Congrats on the interview notice, although I could absolutely scream!!! We files more than 2 months before you and have still heard nothing. There is not such thing as equitable in this silly process.

Thank you but now I am DREADING getting all this paperwork and proof together UGH!!! Someone on here told me that Detroit, MI usually gives an interview and pretty quickly

  4. FINALLY after 3 and a half years and exactly one day shy of the 6 month mark after sending in the removal of conditions packet(NOA1 was August 25, 2014), we received a text notification to check the USCIS site. My husband's 10 year green card was approved and it's in the mail. Just one last step, applying for citizenship which he can start in July of this year. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. We have had a very smooth journey in spite of the nay sayers who warned us that because of certain "red flags" we have in our marriage our journey would be long and difficult. We sailed through the entire process from start to finish. No RFE's, no significant delays, just a few weeks of AP after his interview at the consulate in Amman. To those nay sayers who told us there was no way we be approved because I happen to be 20 years older than my husband, and because he is Muslim and I am Catholic, because I am divorced with children and that we were married not long after meeting for the first time, we prevailed. I am not sure why a certain few people go out of their way to intentionally scare people who are in the midst of this long journey, people who insist that just because you may or may not fit the conventional mold of what a relationship is supposed to look like, that there is no way you will succeed in this journey without pain and heartache. This community is about supporting others, not about adding stress to an already stressful process.

I want to send a shout out to the rest community here at VJ, the majority of whom are kind, compassionate and very VERY knowledgeable. Without the guidance, support and advice from the members here we never would have been able to complete this process on our own. When the time comes for my husband to apply for citizenship I am sure we will be back for more sage advice from the many wonderful members of this community.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,

    Cathi and Moath

Congrats to you both!!! Our journey has been as smooth as ever too so far. About to go to his Green Card/AOS interview March 25th!

  5. Sent AOS on November 14th, interview March 25th. Not even prepared for this. Only thing we have that I can show that is joint right now is our bank account. We haven't even taken that many pictures of us together. UGH.

Someone have any tips on what I need to do to get more "proof" of our marriage?????????????

    Thank you!!

Haven't even been to Social Security to change my last name!!! Guess I will do that on Friday

  6. Sorry for the confusion....I front loaded the initial K1 visa package. And at least in my case, the interviewer had thoroughly reviewed everything prior to the interview.

I'm confused. So, for AOS and Green Card interview we have to bring a bunch of evidence? UGH, what a pain. I need to start adding my husband to some things like utility bills or credit cards. So far only joint bank account.

  7. Yeah! We got this status then a couple days later it changed to something about the post office delivering the card with a tracking number.

    Sweet relief! Congrats guys!

Yay!!!! Thanks, same for you guys!!

Congratulations! Your EAD has been approved and you will receive it next week.

Yes!!! So, yesterday my hubby got some papers in the mail about approval but will he also be getting like an EAD card to put in his wallet? How does that work?

  8. On January 20, 2015, we approved your Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization.

Does this mean we'll get the EAD in the mail soon???!!!! :D

You can just use the main USCIS case status page and enter the NOA receipt number. I do recommend creating an account and adding all your receipt numbers if you have 3.

  9. Hello again Jaime! I hope all is well now that Karam is here! Just to give a hopeful prespective, my hisband got his EAD/AP in 34 days. I have seen some pretty depressing situations out there where people are not getting movement on this for 100+ days, but Inshallah this will not happen to ya'll.

    Best of luck!!!

    Kristin

Hi Kristin! I am so happy he is here but he is getting bored lol!! We are almost to the 75 day mark and I was told I can call on or the day after the 75th day and inquire about it and possibly get it moving faster UGH!!! 100+ days???????? :'( I thought 30 to 90 days, not beyond that. I hope all is well with you and your man!!! :D

Usually after biometric appt, its 1-2 months til approved.

He checks the mail EVERYDAY and gets so disappointed when it's not there awwww :(

  10. I have called USCIS to file service request due to my application pending more than 75 days. I got approved the next day or so. I remember many people did too.

Where do I find the phone number? Sent my husband's AOS on November 4th and we are desperate to get his EAD. He REALLY wants to work to get our lives moving forward. I will try anything to get this work permit faster!

  11. Not sure what you mean. The receipt notices are what you receive to say they got your applications and provide you with your receipt numbers. There are not really NOA1 and NOA2 aspects of the AOS process. Those receipt notices are proof of your filing.

Next you will receive notice that the EAD/AP was approved and card produced and mailed to you. After that you will receive a letter for an interview or letter stating your interview will most likely be waived.

It takes about 60-90 days from the date you filed until you receive the EAD/AP.

Okay, thank you. I was just asking to be able to fill in the Timeline. That thing can get me confused lol

  12. I am engaged to a 25 year old Egyptian Muslim woman whom I met in Egypt about two years ago. I'm a 30 year old American citizen finishing my thesis in Cairo. It's my understanding that most American-Egyptian marriages involve American women and Egyptian men. As I intend to marry my fiancee very soon, I'd like to find other couples that consist of an American husband and an Egyptian wife, both because I'd like to find out how their visa application processes went and also because I would like to discuss their experiences with intercultural matrimony.

Specifically, I'd like to know if during the I-130 visa process whether such a coupling is looked upon favorably. In other words, do American embassy officials have fewer concerns about visa fraud and the like if the husband is American and the wife is Egyptian? For selfish reasons, I certainly hope so!

Also I'd like to know what the typical waiting time the past year or so has been for I-130 visa approval in Egypt.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I personally know an Egyptian woman who married an American man. They are both Christians though. Their Visa journey went just fine :) Best of luck to you

  13. I want to start this topic to discuss any setbacks, problems, or difficulties for those of us with fiances in the Middle East.

    My fiance is in Libya.....

The US Embassy in Libya is closed until further notice. Libyan nationals are required to travel to Morocco for the embassy requirements, unless we can get another embassy to take the case. For a Libyan this is difficult because Libyans can't enter Morocco without obtaining an additional visa from Morocco. My fiance wants to go to Tunisia because it is much more convenient.

So, my point here is that I imagine that others are also having additional problems they have to deal with besides the regular process of the K1, if your fiance is in a Middle Eastern country, they face more scrutiny and additional challenges in this process.

After 3 expedite requests, finally USCIS approved the petition. Now we are waiting for it to go to NVC. I called them and they told me that I could send NVC a legal document showing my fiance has permission to be present in Tunisia and that they will send it there for us, otherwise we will have to get approval directly from that embassy to take our case.

Another issue....there is no mail in Libya!!! There will be no receiving of packets or letters in Libya, what is going to happen?

Has anybody had any similar visa journeys with fiances in the Middle East for this process they can share?

I wonder if they could do everything by email???? What a tough situation. I don't have any answers for you but thought I would just bring up the email thing. I hope the best for you guys
