    Camelot13 got a reaction from Zombie69 in N-400 August 2017 Filers
Thanks, all! That's interesting to know; I wouldn't have thought of that. I think we'll wait it out though as it would be too expensive to fly back for interviews and oath ceremonies. I'm just eager for it to all finish up because we have a lot of balls in the air right now - pending I-751, pending N-400, house sale prep and getting ready for another visa overseas (for me this time!). I'll be glad when it all starts simplifying. My hope is it doesn't drag on into the late spring, but I'm at the LA office so it's certainly possible.

My husband and I are awaiting his n-400 approval because we're planning an overseas move and need to finalize the citizenship before that. We're pretty much ready to go and are just waiting for this and trying to figure out when to put our house up for sale. Waiting to move for an extra 6 months and knowing we could have had a much sooner finalization to this process is frustrating. I'm not blaming online filers though, just the lack of distinction at the time of applying that online filing would result in such a difference in speed.

Hello everyone! Last evening I was very surprised to get an email saying my husband's case has moved to the Interview and Testing stage as of Sept 29 and that we'll be getting a letter with the interview date. I didn't file online so will have to wait for it to come in the mail, but hopefully it won't be too long. This is all much faster than I was expecting. My husband is actually going out of the country until November 5 so hopefully it won't be scheduled TOO quickly (never thought I'd say that about USCIS) but seeing as, for other people, it seems about a month after notices are mailed out it should be fine.

I think an additional year, but am not sure if it's the date from the stamp or date from old GC expiration. I'll ask when we're there.

We've got an InfoPass appointment for next week to request a stamp in my husband's passport because he'll be traveling when his GC extension expires, so I'll report back how that goes. We're planning on bringing the expired green card, his UK passport, and GC extension letter with us to the appointment. Maybe an email or something from family requesting his presence because of the ill family member although not sure that's really necessary.

We filed the N-400 on Aug 8th even though I-751 is still processing at CSC. Personally, we opted to do that because we wanted to get in the queue for the naturalization processing as soon as we could since that is also a months-long process. It seems like a worthwhile trade off to have a slightly longer or more complicated interview if it shaves some time off his overall path to citizenship. Seeing as the citizenship supersedes the 10-GC and we were eligible to apply, that's what we went for. I've heard from others that occasionally it can cause delays in that you might not be approved on the date of the interview if they need to look back at the I-751 file or something but hopefully that's not always the case. That's just our preference though and it's totally understandable why someone would chose to wait for I-751 approval.

If you're coming back to the states in August before your letter expires, it should be fine. We recently traveled and my husband had no trouble coming back in with his expired GC and extension letter.

No word yet on our case, but just wanted to let everyone know that we traveled internationally and came back into the US last week with the green card and the extension letter and there was no issues. Got in fine. I know some people were worried about that.

We're eligible to apply for citizenship after July 29th so I'm going to be starting on that application soon. Definitely thought I'd hear about ROC before then! Are citizenship apps still taking about 6 months?

Camelot13 got a reaction from icv21 in What health insurance do you have????
I agree with Bill. I was able to sign my husband up through my employer and the price did go up but that was the normal rate for adding a spouse (any spouse) to the plan. My husband didn't have a social security number at the time, but we were still about to get him on my plan. The only problem was that without the SSN, I had to contact my HR representative whenever we wanted to schedule a doctor appointment because the plan did not officially recognize him and the HR rep had to confirm that he was indeed valid on my plan. The benefit of being on his employer plan with him is that you'd have another joint document for your interview and it will likely be the cheapest because they are often subsidized partially by the employer.
Obamacare is an option as well, and I'd recommend making an appointment with a certified enrollment counselor to discuss your options. They should have good info for which options you have available. The Affordable Care Act has mandated that everyone needs to be enrolled in a healthcare plan, either through an employer or Healthcare.gov but, as Bill said, the penalty at the moment is a fee when you file your taxes so it's not like you'll get kicked out of the country if you don't have healthcare.
If you don't sign up for a healthcare plan, you are entitled to emergency medicaid as an immigrant.
I have Kaiser Permanente and I've been pretty happy with them. Through my employer plan, I pay $90/month but that is partially sponsored by my employer. When my job ends later this month, I'll be on a medicaid Obamacare plan because it is the cheapest, but there are a variety of plan options that average about $500/month without premium assistance.
I'm not sure if being an overstay affects any of this or not. Have you filed your AOS yet?

Camelot13 got a reaction from Harpa Timsah in Certified Marriage Certificate for AOS from K1
My husband and I were married in LA this spring. They tell you it will take 6-8 weeks. Ours took 3.5 weeks. What we did to expedite it was to hand deliver the marriage license to the Norwalk center and then we called in a few times a week to check if it was ready and, when it was, we picked up in person rather than have them mail it to us. They explained to us that the length of time depended on how many weddings they had at any given time that needed to be recorded. Then we overnighted the AOS package. We got it in right before our 90 days. I don't think there's any other way to expedite it. They didn't seem all that interested in rushing it for us, even when we mentioned the timeline of immigration.
I'd really advise against turning in your AOS package without the formal certified recorded copy of the marriage certificate. The pictures and explanation won't help avoid one. You'll definitely get an RFE, so it's better to wait and send it in when you have the certified one.
Your timeline says you got married in May? Is that incorrect?

After much prodding from me and HR insisting that he needs a SSN, they finally acknowledged that he COULD sign up on my insurance plan without one. They vaguely said that there may be some problems with services. When I asked for more clarification, they said that the healthcare provider might not be able to see his enrollment so we'd have to have my HR rep know before he goes to the doctor. Fine by me! As long as he gets coverage. Such a frustrating process for such a simple answer.

Camelot13 got a reaction from Scott & Kath in Please help me, Visiting the UK (Scotland) for the first time for 3 months.
I took a 3 month trip to Scotland to visit my boyfriend this past summer. I came into the Edinburgh airport. I was fairly freaking out about the immigration checkpoint beforehand, so I went super prepared. They didn't look at all my documents though. I brought with me a letter from an employer saying they expected me to start a job on a certain date in the US, however I was only asked if I had a job to which I said, "Yes." I also had a letter from my boyfriend saying that I could stay with him for those dates. They asked me what his date of birth is and they copied down his phone number onto a separate notepaper, but didn't call him. They also looked at my return ticket. I had saved up about $4500 for the 3 month stay, but they didn't ask to see my bank statement.
That amount of money you mentions seems like it may not be enough for 3 months, from the IO's standpoint. They'll likely never ask, but if you can bring along a credit card statement showing a limit of a few thousand dollars, even if you never intend on using it, it may make the IO feel satisfied that you have sufficient funds.
If you don't want to do that, perhaps you can book your flight for a only few weeks and then if you get a 6 month stamp (standard for most visitors) then you can later change the date of your flight. If you could bring along any other ties to the US, that would be helpful too. Even if you don't have a rental lease, perhaps you could have an ongoing cell phone bill and health insurance in the US. I even brought a letter from my mom saying that she'd be having surgery the month I returned and was relying on me for her recovery care. This never came up, but I just wanted even more to show I was definitely going home. They primarily want to know that you're not going to work in the UK and you're going to return home. You seem like a genuine person, but being young, in a relationship with a UK citizen, and not having a job to return to are potential red flags. Just make sure to establish your financial resources and ties to home and then I'm sure you'll be fine.
If you have started the K1 process, bring any documents to back that up. If you haven't started, I wouldn't recommend talking about the engagement unless specifically asked because there's no way of proving you're planning on doing the immigration process in the US & it may just complicate things.
