Thanks!! I felt like I sent more but maybe it was different on 2013. I think I used that rapid visa service and they walked me through it all. Jacob is doing this himself and I am trying to help. Looks like they have all of the evidence ready. They have both traveled 4 times to each other’s countries. He actually has a trip planned at the end of June again too. He wants everything to be in the mail before he takes that trip.

I did the K1 in 2013 for my husband but I had help with filing. Now I am trying to help someone else but I don’t recall. My son is engaged to a girl from Guatemala. Crazy how he met someone almost the same way as me. He has i-129 ready to go as well as the $535 filing fee. I thought there was another form and fee when filing through USCIS but it has been a while so I am asking to make sure. Can anyone who has done this recently help? Is the biometrics fee sent then or just with adjustment of status?

I guess we all look at it differently. When my dad passed away in 2011, it was not expected. A blood clot passed through his heart while he was at work. He worked in construction and was in great shape ao no one even thought he had an issue. I knew my mom could not pay her mortgage and I could not pay both mine and hers either so I moved her in with me. She ended up going to live with my brother eventually because my bedrooms are upstairs and at his house she has a room on the main floor. She is living on just disability and climbing stairs is hard for her.
My husband came here in January 2014 but about a year later his mom ended up having a heart attack. Completely unexpected as well. They both seemed healthy up until then. They ate healthy the traditional black beans, rice, and grilled chicken was their regular diet most lunches. His dad is still healthy. He still works but that isn't a promised thing. When my husband came here we talked about bringing his parents here from day 1. He does have a brother in Brazil but he lives far away in another state and it is pretty unlikely that he would go care for his dad. We will get the citizenship and then he can petition to bring his dad here. At that point he can retire and sell his home and just live with us.....hopefully in a warmer state by that time. 😀

As I said before, that is not our intention at all. My daughter worked in a nursing home and the stories she told made me hope to never use one for my parents or in-laws. I know people who take care of their parents and never think twice. Since i work from an office in my house, I think that the chance of us caring for a parent is very good!

Thanks! We talk to him on Skype regularly and my husband has been teaching him English. In Brazil my husband actually taught English as a second language so that should not be too big of an issue. We try to speak both languages on Skype.
I have heard that about Miami. Actually one of my husbands best friends visit there a lot.

Ok well we don't intend to put him in a nursing home. He is pretty healthy and active at the moment so it isn't something we forsee. Our intention is also not tp stay in Michigan either. My husband and I plan to move to Tennessee in the next year. I am from here and I am a bigger wimp about the cold than he is and he came from Rio where it is always summer-like! 🤣
-
The chances of him ending up in a nursing home are slim. We both work from home so if he ever needed care we would be here for that.
-
Yes he has millions easily so this is why I know finances are not an issue for him.
-
Yes, we definitely need to make sure that he can get that. I was able to insure my husband when he arrived through my employer but that is definitely not an option here.
-
Ok so we will start working on that so that he can bring his dad here. He figures he will live here with us once we bring him here. I guess that gives him time to work on selling his home in Rio.
-
Ok so he has to wait three years after he got his initial Green Card to apply for citizenship, correct? It will be three years in April so I guess we have to do that ASAP. That kinda stinks because we really would like to bring my father in law to the USA so he is not alone there. My husband really worries about him since his mom unexpectedly passed away.

Can I petition for my father in law?
-
My husband came here from Brazil in 2014 on a K1 Visa. He has his Green Card. His mom passed away about a year after he arrived and now his dad is alone in Rio. He wants to bring him here. He worries about him being alone. The question is how hard would that be? I am finding info about bringing siblings, children, but nothing on parents. Any advice on how we would go about it? Once father in law sells his home and retires, he would have enough money to survive extremely comfortably for the rest of his life so money would never be an issue and he would not ever be a burden on the system.

That isn't good! What is everyone supposed to do if that year extension expires?
-
Nope! He told them he was from Brazil! That was not a problem at all. He even explained that we applied to have conditions removed. They told him to show the receipt but he ended up talking to a different person when he provided his Green Card and they did not accept it. I am pretty sure the first person would have but the second one just insisted that it was expired. Next time we will be providing his green card, the receipt as well as his ID and social security card. It was frustrating because he provided exactly what they asked for and still denied. Hopefullh that Green Card comes soon but according to the USCIS site they are taking about 9 months.

I wish I would have known that!

Has anyone had issuea getting a job after applying for the adjustment of status? We got a receipt letter extending my husbands work eligibility for a year while we wait. It was dated March 20. His 2 year green card expired on April 10 so we figured we were good just to show the receipt proving that it is still valid. After a job interview and a job offer, they still denied him the job.

My husband's said Ready for a day before the visa was approved! Hope you get your good news soon! I know the frustration and agony of waiting fir the answer! It's so worth it in the end!

Card was ordered!!!! Thank you God!!!!!

The interview was today! I think it went fine. Pretty much exactly as you described above. She asked our story. The only other question she asked was who came to the wedding. My husband had no trouble rattling off the list of people. She asked for documents of our relationship. We glacé her the marriage license, bank statements, and car title. She flipped through our photos. After that she gave us a paper explain the removal of conditions but told us that we need to get a copy of the marriage license that shows that it was filed with the courts. We took the original that we were given. I guess that happens a lot. We rushed back to the courthouse and scanned and emailed it to her. Hopefully that will ensure an approval soon.

Passport expired but needs to travel home
in Working & Traveling During US Immigration
Posted · Edited by Bambi & João
My husband is a citizen of Brazil but a US Permanent Resident. After he came here in 2014 but before he had his green card his mother passed away. His father is alone in Rio and having health and depression issues. We have been trying to renew his passport which expired. We had to send original documents, his old passport and a money order to the consulate in Chicago.USPS has lost the documents and were kinda in a panic. We have no way of getting another copy of his birth certificate or the old passport. They haven’t got the documents in Chicago. The money order was never cashed. We are trying to have USPS search which involved filling out forms with them but so far nothing. He needs to just get there. He can get documents there if he can just get there and renew it before flying back since he plans to stay several months but we need to know if Brazil will even allow him entry. I contacted the airlines and they sent told me to contact TSA. TSA told me to contact US Department of State. They told me that they only deal with US Citizens abroad. Has anyone had to travel home? Can he enter his own country with any other form of ID or his green card and will he even be allowed to fly. Amazed that even the airline could nit answer this. It has to happen to other green card holders. Can anyone give me any leads. He needs to get back to his dad as soon as possible but we can’t just spend thousands on airfare if we aren’t sure he will be allowed entry into his home country.
