  1. My husband has been in the USA since January 2014. We did the K1 Visa, we have the AOS interview a week from today. He has AP as of February. His mother got sick from pneumonia and passed away on November 1. We were unable to attend they funeral and haven't been to Brazil since. His parents had put us in their will and his dad is also selling the apartment. Our problem is we have to go to Brazil when it sells to sign. My husband is on the deed to be has to sign to sell too. It looks like it will be about a week after the interview because he has a buyer. The apartment is huge and now that he's alone he wants something small. He doesn't want to lose this buyer because most are offering less than what it is worth and this one has made a reasonable offer. I've been told.that they take his EAD/AP combo card at the interview. Does the USCIS have a way to give us something proving he can come back to the USA? Also the other issue, how do you transfer money? Can we transfer between Brazil and our USA bank account? We didn't see this coming and before leaving Brazil, he closed his account there. We are completely lost.

  2. Everyone loves my husband!! Once we told our friends of the situation, I have several people offering to help us!! Hopefully, I will be updating this topic with great news soon. He has no intention of leaving the US until everything is approved but he feels terrible because he lost his mom and he's stuck while his dad is back in Brazil stuck and really needs help getting ready to move out of his giant apartment in Copacabana!

  3. If I need a joint sponsor for my husband's green card, what are the income requirements for a single joint sponsor? Is it different than two people? I have a friend who is single and lives alone and she has offered to help but we can only find this list:

    Family Size of 2 $19,662

    Family Size of 3 $24,737

    Family Size of 4 $29,812

    Family Size of 5 $34,887

    Family Size of 6 $39,962

    Family Size of 7 $45,037

    Family Size of 8 $50,112

Add $5,075 for each additional person.

My husband came from Brazil on a K1 visa and his mom passed away on November 1. He was unable to attend her funeral. He has a large inheritence coming. Since he doesn't have it yet, he cannot use this to help get the green card can he? As of now our petition was put on hold until we find a joint sponsor.

His dad is alone and needs help with moving soon and we had hoped to go see him but it seems they also put the travel authorization on hold too. Is there a way to push the travel authorization through while we wait?

  4. Boo!!! Just remembered its Veterans Day so I have to call Wednesday!

With the visa, we sent the returns and his tax preparer is HORRIBLE. He printed them with a printer that either had very little ink or a dirty print head. I was forced to overnight the originals which were barely readable to Rio via FedEx. $139 to ship, insane stress, and a 4 week delay later he was approved. I can't believe its the same ####### with the AOS. Unfortunately, my brothers originals from prior years are somewhere in the US EMBASSY in Rio. Hes been doing a complete remodel of his house and it's crazy disorganized. I hope the other form will work. If not, my husband is doing volunteer work as a guitar teacher here for a really amazing non profit organization that teaches kids music. Hoping by the time he can work, people know him well enough that he can get paid to do what he lives. He was a guitar teacher in Brazil too. The owner and founder of the organization has volunteered to be a joint sponsor as well. I was hoping not to do that but it's at least another option.

At least with the AOS stress he's with me instead of 5200 miles away but now his poor dad is alone in Brazil.

  5. I think it is because if the transcripts I sent. We chose the ones suggested for immigration and they were hard to understand. My brothers wife files because she works for a regular employer but she only made $23,000. My brother is a self employed mechanic and it was listed under "other" on the transcript. Today when we went into the website and chose " employment verification", it printed out and was listed as income but it was farther down the page. I'm going to call them tomorrow and ask. I'm also going to inquire about the travel documents because even though he missed his moms funeral, his dad needs his help to get stuff taken care of. I'm praying that the USCIS just didn't read the transcript correctly.

  6. Also, does this put travel authorization and work authorization on hold? I really hope he can visit his dad soon. His dad isn't going to be able to keep the apartment on Rio because it is huge and he's alone now since his moms passing on Saturday. He is hoping to help him get things sorted. I hope this is just something simple and that it only affects the AOS. We have to be at the USCIS for biometrics on Monday. I doubt they will have answers but we will ask.

  7. I live in Michigan. My husband came here from Rio de Janeiro on a K1 Visa. We've applied for the AOS. The nearest USCIS office is in Detroit. This is where he has to go for the Biometrics appointment. I've had people tell me that if we have to go to an interview, it will be in Chicago. I've had others say it will be in Detroit. Detroit is an hour away and Chicago is 6 so Detroit is definitely what I am hoping for but we want to be sure to be prepared if we have to plan a quick trip so can anyone clear this up? Has anyone from Michigan had their AOS interview in Detroit after arriving on a K1 Visa? Also, has anyone had no interview at all? I was told that in some cases, since there was an interview at the Embassy in Rio for his K1 Visa that they don't even require an interview. What is everyone's experience on this?

  8. I'm working on my husband's AOS. He arrived with his K1 Visa in January and we got married in February. When I applied for his visa, I had 4 of my kids living here and were dependents. Now my oldest sons (19 and 20) both have their own income. My daughter who will be 18 in a month moved out in January. She didn't like moms rules and thought it was ok to drinlk and so things that I do not approve of so she went to live with her aunt. When I file my 2014 taxed, I intend to only claim her until; August. When I send in the package for the green card, if I claimed all 4 as dependents on my 2013 tax return and only claim one as a dependent for the Green card. Since they were dependents in 2013 so I have to claim them since those tax forms are the ones I am sending.

  9. I'm pulling my hair out trying to get an answer. Filling out paperwork FINALLY!!!! I had one of my adult kids move out and another is working and no longer requires me to support him. He still lives here but basically just sleeps here. He's usually off doimg things. I claimed them on my 2013 taxes. Do I have to list them as dependents so that my tax documents match what I claimed before?

Also, I was told not everyone get an interview as well! Just curious what the percentage is.

  10. Hey Everyone!! Hope all is well with everyone! Things are good here. Just before his departure from Brazil in January, my husband had a dental emergency and was told that in order to fly he had to have a root canal. Upon his arrival, we had to get him a crown and a permanent filling. Unfortunately, I was unable to get him great dental insurance so it put us in debt. We still haven't started the AOS but we finally have the money. Because we had to wait, does this mean he will have to get the medical again? Can anyone give me any tips? Now I am on a mission to find all of the necessary paperwork and get this going. Did everyone do this on your own? I had help with the paperwork for the K1 Application but I am still trying to decide if I should attempt this on my own.

  11. YEAH!!! So happy to see so many are approved and with their loved ones now!! Congratulations to those I have missed and to those who asked me fopr help, I am sorry for not responding. We've been married since February 21 and it's been amazing. I'm very happy. He's adjusted very well to the weather here in Michigan. I was worried that coming from Rio where it's always warm during their summer to the coldest and snowiest Michigan winter EVER was goint to be a problem. It wasn't. He LOVES the snow (at leastuntil he gets sick of it). Thankfully, it is almost gone and the weather has been so much nicer. We've been taking walks. I've been missing because for the last 6 months or so I had to schedule my Mac to come on because the power button stopped working. I still had a warranty so I decided that I would get it fixed since I don't need it to see my amazing guy anymore because HE IS HERE!!!! It took them FOREVER to fix it and when I tried to log on to the forum wiith my iPhone, I couldn't remember the password (I always had it saved on my Mac). I got locked out multiple times while trying to respond and gave up. I really didn't miss the computer though.

Everyone is ahead of us! The flight and things we needed for getting married, preparing him for clothes, and some other stuff thatwas unrelated left us a little short on cash so we are still only preparing for the AOS. He did get his Social Security number though. That was a complicated process and the US Social Security office forced him to have a double last name instead of a middle and last name because of the way Brazil has it on his passport. They wanted us to have his passport fixed but we don't even know how to start that one. I believe we have to go to the nearest embassy which is in Chicago (a six hour drive or train ride). We will eventually fix it and they said at Social Security that we can fix it later if we choose to do so or he can just have two last names. The problem is, he ALWAYS has to sign BOTH names for anything important. We still have not started the process for his AOS. I hired someone for our paperwork with the visa and it went perfectly but prefer to try to do this on our own. Hopefully we'll get it started VERY soon. Is it easy? Has anyone had any troubles getting things together? I'm not in a huge rush for him to get a job because he lived in a big city where driving wasn't necessary. Here we have very little public transportation so I have to teach him to drive. I'm not sure if we can do that before AOS. Does anyone know if he can get a drivers license before his AOS is approved? If not, it complicates things because I have to work so driving him until he can get a license might be tricky. I know, I have a lot of research to do. I've been so busy taking care of the things that I felt were most important like getting him on my medical and dental, and getting married. I've been working a lot when I get a free moment, I just love to enjoy him. We know he can't leave the country because we have to do AOS first. I'm READY!!! I'd love to have it in time to vacation in Rio next year when it gets cold and see his parents. On another note, it turns out his brother and sister in law will be moving to the USA for 1 1/2 year later this year so they'll only be a 6 hour drive or short plane ride away! :-)

  12. I'm still here!! Life is good! My fiancée has adjusted well and actulally likes the cold and snow...I will never understand! Tomorrow us his birthday, Friday Valentined Day and next Friday we will be married at the courthouse on the first anniversary of our engagement! We will have another wedding ceremony in the summer so we can invite family and friends! This gives his family and friends in Rio de Janeiro time to plan!!!

Congrats to all of the new approvals!!!!

  13. Congratulations to the new approvals and I am happy to see so many are finally with their loved ones!!! My fiancee arrived on January 16 and I've been really enjoying him. He came from Rio de Janeiro where it is ALWAYS summer and we happen to be having the coldest winter in over 40 years! I was a little worried but he's enjoying the weather and he loves snow! He's been on a permanent photo shoot since stepping off the plane. We went to some malls and an outlet center and got him a very warm coat and some winter clothes. Life is GREAT!! We have 79 days to get married and have barely started planning. The hope is to get married the weekend of February 21. We can do it, right?

  14. First day back to work after my fiancee arrived. I don't want to leave him. sad.png I love having him here. My only problem is that I have a huge family and even though I introduced him to all of them the day he arrived, he was a BIG HIT. We have had to go places and do things to get him stuff he needed to adjust to the change in climate. He went from Rio where it is always summer to Michigan where winter is even more brutal than usual. The malls are not close so we've spent the last 5 days doing that and getting him a phone. It seems whenever we get home someone shows up. Our only time alone is at bedtime, I swear, I'm trying to be nice but wish my famiy would cut me a break here and just let me spend some time with him. *sigh* Of course, I am thrilled to be with him. I love waking up and seeing his face next to me. If my family wants to visit him so bad, I hope they come today and leave by 5:30 when I get out of work so I can at least spend some quiet time with him. My next three days off are booked solid. WE have to get married in the next 84 days and haven't even had a minute to start planning. I REALLY don't want to do a courthouse ceremony.

Happy to hear everyone's happy news. I hope the rest of you have your happy news SOON!!!
