  1. A supporting document is something you sent in addition to your application forms. i.e. marriage certificates, birth certificates, evidence of a bona fide marriage.

They already have your application forms, they are essentially asking for you to bring any originals to show them AND a copy to give to them if they require.

I didn't make photocopies of my actual application forms, just saved them on the computer and figured if they needed them, I would just print them out again. A photocopy of your original application form wouldn't be valid anyways, I don't think, since the form would need the original signature and not a photocopy of the signature.

Thank you! So they want the originals and copies of the marriage certificates, birth certificates etc and not of anything else? Do you know about the I-864, if I need another letter from his employer and his tax transcripts etc?

  2. I just received my appointment letter in the mail today. I'm confused about a few things.

    1) It asks for a completed I-864 form with IRS printouts for the most recent tax year and a letter from my husband's employer then it says "(unless already submitted)" which we already sent out to them, so I don't need to bring these in again, right?

    2) It asks for "original and copy of each supporting document that you submitted with your application. Otherwise, we may keep your originals for our records" what does this part mean? I didn't make any copy of the FORMS we sent out if that's what they mean, I'm so stupid :(

  3. Before you get a co-sponsor, do you have enough assets? If you have another assets, then you won't need a co-sponsor.

So, if you need to earn $19,662 in order to sponsor your spouse, if that's who you're sponsoring, and you only make $15,662, the difference is $4,000. Multiply that by 3 and that is $12,000, so you need to prove that you have at least $12,000 worth of assets.

  4. My husband and I are filling out a healthcare form and it asks me what my immigration status is. I am currently adjusting status from VWP to permanent resident (spouse of US citizen) so what do I put? "Adjustment of status", "pending" ?

Also, it asks if I have an eligible immigration status. Do I tick yes or no? I think it's no but I just want to make sure.

  5. Do not just count on the website update I would say. I sent in my RFE right after I received the notice and they got it 3 days later, however my status online had been always shown as " REF review" for almost 4 month and then turned into "testing and interview" directly. They do not bother to update the status on time and I know it is nerve racking.

Oh okay, thanks. How long was it before they responded to you after they received your RFE?

  6. Well they waited for the evidence they asked for, so it only makes sense that the rest of the file is on hold until they receive said evidence.

For the bank account. I was able to have my husband be co-signed on the account until I can provide a SSN. Now that is with a credit union and I guess that's always a different thing to other banks.

Oh they received the evidence on March 6th. Are you the US citizen or your husband?

  7. You paused your process for close to two months with not responding to your RFE so I'd say another 6-8 weeks.

Oh okay, thank you. How come that has affected the waiting time?

By the way, does anybody know what I should do with my bank account? My debit card expires in June of this year, it's a UK bank account, and if I don't receive my EAD by then, I can't open a bank account because I won't have a SSN which they want.

  8. I was getting confused about all the different forms so I thought about phoning them and see what they say but it seems like they're not helpful. So we have to include an ITR and W-2 and tax transcript from 2012 and is there anything else from 2012 that we have to include? He already has his W-2 from 2013 but not the other stuff yet. The bullet points on the letter confused me because I didn't know if they meant "either or". If he has pay stubs from the last 6 months does he still have to get a letter from his employer? Finally, the part where they asked for a joint sponsor, his income is $21775 as written on his latest W-2 (2013) which is over the limit, I think the reason why they asked for a joint sponsor was because we didn't include evidence the first time and in 2012 his salary was below the limit. Do we still need to include a joint sponsor? I'm just worried they might deny the application if we forget to include everything this time.

  9. Some are nice, some are rude.

Most of them have no idea what they are talking about. They are call center staff and will most likely not be able to help you.

You will get better advice posting your questions here.

Okay well I received an RFE 2 weeks ago for form I-864. I wrote about it here http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/475029-rfe-for-form-i-864-really-confused-help/

My husband received his W-2 form from his employer for year 2013. Do we still need to have a W-2 form for year 2012? Also, do we need anything else along with form W-2?

His "wages, tips, other comp" box on the form says $21775.00 which I'm assuming is his income? And it's over the $19,387 which is the minimum amount for the two of us. Does he still need a letter from his employer if it shows his income on the form? If he has pay stubs for the last 6 months, does he still need to ask his employer for a letter? And because his income is above the $19,387, does he still need a joint sponsor? We got asked for one in the letter I think because we didn't include evidence of his income, we were confused at the time.

  10. Okay, my husband got his W-2 from his work from 2013 and his wages, tips etc box says $21,775. Do we need a letter from his employer to say how much he earns a year or is the proof on the W-2? Also, do we need to get his W-2 from 2012? Is there anything else we need attaching to the W-2?

I'm thinking of ringing up USCIS tomorrow and asking them but I'm nervous. Are they nice to you on the phone? Do you think they will still want us to have a joint sponsor even though his income is $21,775?
