Bill & Ivy got a reaction from DRbound in Moving from Caribbean to cold!
My fiance is from the Philippines, so for her anything much under 85 degrees, and she is cold. She loves it warm, and I am the complete opposite, I like it cooler, we live in Virginia, so we have some winter weather here, but so far very little snow, and only a few really cold days since she arrived. I am self-employed and work from home so I think that helps since most of the time I am home. A hobby is a big help also, if there is something she likes to do or might be interested in learning to do. I have quite a bit of land, so we try and go out into the woods for longs walks for an hour or two each day, which we both enjoy. We try to go someplace at least every other day, and she wants to see all the surrounding areas, and hopefully she will try to learn to drive once she is able to.
Just try to help her to find something to occupy some of her time, and spend as much time with her in the beginning especially. They will gradually acclimate better to the cold temperatures as time passes, but it does seem hard or her, since she had hardly ever been in any place that was cold before. A couple more months, and it will be warming up some, but in the mean time get used to her probably wearing lots of warm clothes inside the house, and you may have to invest in an electric blanket for your bed, we did, just make sure you get one that has dual temp. controls.

Bill & Ivy got a reaction from Neonred in TAX QUESTIONS??
You can probably use creative tax interpretation to be able to deduct most if not all the expenses you are referring too. The US tax code is so open to interpretation you can get away with many things, unless you get audited, at that time you will then get a very definitive explanation of the tax codes by the IRS auditor. I have been audited by the feds twice in my life, and I also used a CPA, who was there at both audits to answer there questions. For the most part for me, the audits went somewhat ok, but the problem is once they audit you for a particular reason, they will try there best to keep digging until they can find something to get you on, so that the audit is somehow paid for by you by a penalty of some sort. My guess is that non of the things you would like to deduct from the move, would actually make it through an audit,,,but your chances of getting audited are also quite small, so you make the call..

Bill & Ivy got a reaction from Kaylara in NVC STILL not received case - NOA2 received Nov 5
We are in the same boat as you it sounds, ours was approved NOA2 on Nov. 4th, and we havent heard a word since then.
I have no idea what type of order they process them in, but it doesnt seem as though they do them in the order they were approved for NOA2.
Kinda wonder if the clean-up crew comes in at night and plays with them by throwing them into different receptacles from a distance ,then USCIS picks one receptacle the next morning to process while all the others go back in a big pile so the clean-up crew can do it all over the next night. Just wish whoever is throwing ours, would hit the pile that gets processed!
I think that USCIS must forget that they are affecting so many peoples lives, or else they just dont care, or are incredibly understaffed, dont know which.

Bill & Ivy got a reaction from del-2-5-2014 in Does my foreign fiance have to have Health Insurance once he becomes a US Resident?
Actually the spouse doesn't even have to be married to get insurance on the own, but it cant be on your plan til you are both married. As long as you have a SS# and the packet from your POE, you can get insured through the market place, assuming its working that is. You can go to Kaiser Family Foundation website and enter the applicable info requested, and get pretty accurate rates as to prices including the applied tax reductions that most people will be able to use.
Altonbebe, you have no idea what your talking about, as far as prices or as to how this or any other insurance plan works, but insurance plans don't work the way that your ranting about. Try doing some research in the real world, before ranting. If nothing else, at least you'll be an informed ranter.
