Okay it makes a difference though whether you are just making a reservation or actually booking your ticket. Most purchases are actually going through a booking procedure where each passenger already receives an e-ticket number 24-48 hours prior to the flight that will match your name. If it was an actual booking and you show up at the airport with a different name on your travel document it's a shitshow for them to change it. Because they already have generated an e-ticket number matching your name,  they have to then generate a new e-ticket number which from what I learned is surprisingly difficult for them as   their IT team that usually sits somewhere in Bangladesh or so needs to fix it. Yours seemed to be JUST a reservation, so you were lucky that it hadn't been actually booked under your name. Big difference.

It was an actual booking and I wrote "When I bought my ticket". But thanks for being so condescending. I simply wrote my experience.

Lots of airlines give you problems if you booked your ticket in a different name than your passport as the name needs to match your passport number. You were lucky they were apparently fine changing (or verifying it) it when you went to the airport and received your boarding pass. I've had so many friends having issues with this and ended up having to purchase a new ticket (no kidding)!

When I bought my ticket online it asked for the name of the passenger, where I entered my married name. Further during where it also asked for name as it appears in passport, I entered my name as it appears in passport. So I think it's whatever the reservation is asking. And of course had my original marriage certificate with me.

  3. Sorry guys, I didn't see the comments until today.

    I filed in CSC

When I filed i-751, I barely submitted evidence. It was just the standard. I thought if they need more, they will just send a letter about it. I didn't think I was going to get a divorce a year later.

    My marriage lasted 3.5 years.

I actually went to a lawyer to help me submit the divorce waiver. But only, because I had the money. It's not that hard.

We didn't file another i-751, my lawyer submitted a form called G28, or something like that. That informed USCIS that she is now represents me and she also wrote a letter asking that with this petition we are asking to switch from a joint filer to a divorce filer. That's all she did. Because I was already divorced, we included the divorce decree.

I got all the evidence for a bona fide marriage together and we turned in about a 100 pages of stuff.

All the standards, like bank account statements, lease agreement, utility service, car titles, car insurance, health insurance cards, emergency contacts, life insurance beneficiaries, family phone plans, phone logs, text messages, facebook messages, letters from landlord, my friends, my boss, anyone who knew about our relationship. We also included materials for when my ex and I dated, how we fell in love, messages, emails, letters, post cards, etc and a ton of pictures and facebook posts.

And my case was also transferred to the local office, but I'm not sure if that was a glitch or was really the case. I see a lot of people got that.

congrats. Would you mind to share a little details about your relation, documents and case history? I am also sending my packet next week; any advice will help.
Did you get RFE or Interview? How long it took?

    Not at all.

I filed jointly with my ex husband at the end of September, 2016. My NOA is October 12, 2016. I had my biometrics in December of that year.

My husband and I separated in June of 2017 and divorced in September. With the help of an immigration lawyer I put in a divorce waiver in October of 2017 and was approved yesterday.

I did not get an RFE or an interview. When I first submitted my i-751, I did a really sloppy job. I did not take it very seriously any more. I also didn't think I was going to get a divorce the next year. When I submitted the divorce waiver, I submitted a ton of evidence for the bona fide marriage.

Now, I was actively following the October 2016 filers and it seems like joint filers were approved just slightly faster than me. Maybe it took an extra week or two to get my approval, but nothing extremely unusual.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your petition.

  5. Hello all who divorced while i-751 was pending,

I just wanted to write a little encouragement for all who need it.

I filed the i-751 jointly with my then husband at the end of September of 2016. NOA was October 12, 2016.

9 months later my husband left me and a few months later our divorce was final with no green card in sight.

I amended my i-751 and switched to a divorce waiver in October 2017. And yesterday, I was approved without an RFE or an interview. YAY.

I understand what an uncertain and fearful time this is in our lives. As if getting a divorce wasn't bad enough. I can't offer too much information on the divorce waiver other than how I did it, but we can surely encourage each other through this journey. I noticed that there are quite a few people who are filing with a divorce waiver and thought to start this group to offer information and encouragement to each other.

  6. Hi Rob87,

I'm sorry you have to go through this. I am in the same boat. I filed the i-751 jointly with my exhusband and while pending he left and we divorced a few months later. I put in a divorce waiver and am yet to hear back on a decision. A lawyer can help explaining all the options.

There is another forum where you can find more info

  7. I agree with one commenter. When you file for K1, you should already be a 100% sure. The foreign partner will have to give up their entire life in their country. It's not that easy to relocate and they can't just go back to how their life was before if you change your mind.

I am divorced while waiting on removing conditions on my green card. One thing I can tell you from experience is that it's more difficult to be married with a foreign spouse simply because there is a transition time that you wouldn't have to deal with with an  American spouse. It will require a lot of patience and commitment from you. It took me about 4 years to fully transition. The foreign spouse has no one, but the American spouse and that can make a lot of people needy and lonely just as the marriage starts out. So don't expect the same what you would get from an American gal.

  9. Cute Cactus.

I can't offer any more information than what's already been discussed here, but I wanted to reassure you a little bit about your situation as I am going through the same thing just a few months ahead of you.

My husband left me after 3.5 years of marriage while my I-751 was still pending. Reading your initial post, I can identify with what you are going through. It's a crazy time both emotionally and legally for us, immigrants.

There are different roads you can take, but one thing to keep in mind is to never to deceive Immigrations. If you get caught, you can get into a lot of trouble.

I personally chose to go through with the divorce as soon as possible to be able to put in a divorce waiver. I did that rather than wait until I naturally get the green card, because even if I got the green card without an interview, I would have needed to change my married name back to my maiden name on the green card and USCIS can look back into files after they grant the green card and investigate the validity of it.

There are many immigration lawyers who offer free consultations. I took advantage of that to seek initial advice when my husband first left me. It's really tough to figure out what is the best decision at the time when life is in such turmoil. Hang in there and seek help. There is help available and you have rights.

I ended up getting an immigration lawyer and she helped me put together the material for the waiver. But if you don't have the money for that, it's not too hard to do and you can do it without a lawyer. My case is still pending, so I can't tell you just yet how this has worked out for me. If I get denied, I can still go to court.

If you want to connect in private, I'll be happy to tell you more or answer questions. I'm sorry you have to go through this.

  10. Hi Meaganb,

I'm going through the same thing and will be following this thread if there are more suggestions. I would like to know how likely it is to get the green card with the waiver.

I had a consultation with an immigration lawyer a few weeks ago and he recommended that I would get on with the divorce for two reasons. One, Everyone and their mother claim to be separated from their spouse when they are committing marriage fraud. And the waiver is only available if I'm divorced from my husband. Who left me after 3.5 years, a few months before the conditions are supposed to be lifted.

The immigration lawyer also recommended that while I'm waiting to start gathering all the documents to prove that I entered into the marriage in good faith, but get a lawyer as soon as I have to submit something to immigrations.

    Good luck to you.

    Zsuzsanna

  11. Hi. We just got our case number today from NVC, but when I go to their website and try to check the case number under immigrant visas, this is the message I get:

"Please follow the instructions you received from the National Visa Center (NVC) for the next step in the processing of your visa petition. If you have misplaced the instructions sent to you by the NVC or did not receive them, please contact us at http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3177.html for additional information."

I thought that the case number will enable us to check where our papers are. Does anybody know if this is a normal message or an indication that something might be wrong with our papers?

    Thank you so much.

    Zsuzsanna

  12. My fiance and I are working on collecting all the info needed for this question. He lives in the US and I live in Hungary. Is it enough if I just photocopy the page that has the personal information in my passport and the page that contains the stamp proving my entry into the United States? Or do I have to photocopy the entire passport? Can someone help me with this? Thanks.
