  1. This is random, but I was wondering where everyone met their spouses? We have a huge variety of countries on this thread. I am wondering how everyone got together.. my husband was here on a tourist visa and was living with a mutual friend. I got laid off one spring and had some time on my hands so I went to hang out with my friend and there he was. We were friends for a year before we moved to BF/GF status. I met him only 4 months after he arrived in the US. He didn't speak a word of english. I used to bring him books so he could try to study english. I took him to NYC, Atlantic City, the Jersey shore for motorcross on the beach, the philadelphia Zoo, Amusement parks and countless trips to the mall. HA HA Museums and restaurants.. I could go on...

I met my husband online gaming, we were only friends at the time but we both joined a facebook group for the game and ended up adding each other to facebook. Three years later we randomly starting chatting on facebook and our relationship evolved from there. Chatting for hours and hours on FB chat, to using whatsapp so we could talk at anytime of the day. Eventually he jokingly asked me to come visit him after his recovery from surgery. I went to visit him almost every month for a year before we got engaged. After we got engaged I lived with him in the US for 5 months (as a Canadian visitor) and we got married during that time. I went back and forth to Canada a couple times and one of the last times I tried to visit him I was denied. That was when we sent in our paperwork for the i-130.

  2. Well I just called at 11:40 and they actually picked up past midnight (12:10) surprisingly. Max answered and he was very polite and sounded a bit tired. I asked about my IV fee again and he said a supervisor is scheduled to look into it as per my call on Friday. Unfortunately I forgot to ask how long that would take. I was too thrown off that he knew about my call on Friday lol

He also said its been paid so no need to worry. He was very reassuring :)

  3. Thanks again! Last question, I promise: The following question has absolutely dumbfounded us as to how to answer: "Are you a health care worker seeking to perform such work in the United States but have not yet received certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools or from an equivalent approved independent credentialing organization?"

Well, she's a registered midwife in Europe and at some point in the future (we don't know when) would like to become certified in the US and work there possibly, but everything's up in the air right now as it's a different system and she might be a stay at home mom for the rest of her life etc. Do we answer Yes and tell them that, or do we answer No because her purpose of immigration is not work, but to live with me?

I really thought the DS-260 would be easier than this. Ugh. Sorry for the twenty questions. I keep going back to you because you seem so knowledgeable. :)

You should probably put yes, because yes she does work in the healthcare field. She might not go into when she gets here but it's better to be honest. I wouldn't risk putting no and having a problem in the future if she decides she wants to pursue a career. You can just explain the situation in the text box anyways.

  4. You're not the only one. Now they're telling me they don't control the website...it's dept. of state. Every one of these incompetent SOB's should be fired. If the had regular jobs they would be. I've called 3 times today and will try to get a supervisor after work.

I really hate that they tell everyone something different. Is it really that hard to figure this out? When I called about my IV fee last Friday they told me no problem they will get someone on it to fix it right away. They also told me not to email anything in and it will be done. Still nothing done yet.

  5. My husband did not file taxes for 2012 and 2011. What would he write in the i-864 where it asks for the "total income as reported on Federal tax returns for the most recent 3 years"?

Would it be N/A for both year and total income because he did not file?

    or would it be 2012 - $0 and 2011 - $0?

Just wondering what everyone else put as I don't want to get a checklist for leaving those lines blank.

He already wrote the letter explaining why he didn't file for those 2 years.

  6. Hi all, I had a question about AOS and the fee. My wife lives here in Canada with me so has no USA income but we'll still send one in as required. We know it'll get declined, but my step daughter in the USA is going to send one in as the joint sponsor. Do we wait until they reject the one from my wife, then send in my step daughters, or do we send them in together? Also, if we send them separate, is there a second $88 AOS fee?

    Thanks!

Please read Saylins wiki linked in the first post of this thread. You will find your answers and more about the AOS package.

  7. Her husband is self-employed and since they file jointly that would be why they get an extension every year. Her income alone is far above the poverty guidelines so I'm really not worried about that. I am worried that they will make him file I-864a.

I have her 2012, 2011, 2010 tax return transcripts and proof of extension for 2013.

Do you know if they specifically request i-864a on the checklist?

  8. Not a stupid question at all. However, if your joint sponsor files jointly with her husband, you are either going to need the complete tax return and W2's to show HER income alone qualifies, or an I-864a from the spouse. A TR transcript won't do that. In reality though, it's quite likely the Consular Officer will require an I-864a from the spouse anyway.

Total income from the three transcripts or returns is about the past though, unless she is "self employed". For an employed sponsor, you'll also need evidence of current income. Total income for 2013 is NOT current income unless self employed. IF self employed, expect an i-864a from spouse to be a requirement.

I also told her that I would need her complete tax return and W2's to show her income alone but of course she said she is filing an extension for 2013 tax return so she doesn't have it. I have a feeling this whole AOS package is going to be a disaster with multiple checklists because of her.

  9. Assuming that you are a Canadian citizen, that you have a passport and you have not been banned from visiting the USA.

You are allowed to go visit while your i-130 is pending. You just need stronger ties to Canada, like a job you must get back to (a letter from your employing saying you have xx days off and they expect you back on xx/xx/14), if you are a student show your school paperwork and when you are expected to return to school, a lease or rental agreement with your name, a utilities bill with your name, etc.

Also bring any paperwork showing that you filed for an i-130 (your NOA1) to prove that you are following the correct procedures.

It is of course up to the border officer but as long as your demeanor is friendly, polite and honest, you should be allowed to visit.

Unfortunately I don't think your visa will come through by June if you just filed for it this year. I have been waiting since last October and still no visa.

  10. Hi I am double checking my joint-sponsor's I-864 form and I want to make sure she wrote the correct total income number in Part 6 question 13 a,b,c

I only have the IRS Tax Return Transcripts and she won't to give me the original 1040 Tax Forms so that is out of the question.

My question is how do I find the correct total income for Part 6 question 13 a,b,c?

    Thank you for any replies

Oh I found a line on the Tax Return Form that says "Total Income: $xxxxx" but she filed jointly with her husband so that would be both of the income together right? He did not file a I-864a as she is well above the poverty line and doesn't need his income to support an immigrant.

I know this might seem a little obvious or a stupid question but I just need to know 100%

  11. So I called NVC this morning about my IV fee....

    Date: Friday May 2, 2014

Time: Called at 9:23AM on hold 30 mins

    Agent: Abby

Info: Called about IV Fee still “In Process”.

    - Paid on Thursday April 24

    - withdrawn from bank account on Friday April 25

    - 5 business days, still “In Process” on CEAC (she said “In Process” same time as me, JINX you owe me a CEAC PAID  )

    - After muttering a bit and asking for my husbands correct spelling of last name she says she will have someone look at it and fix it for me…

    - Asked if I need to email them anything she said No Ma’am, someone will take a look and fix it for you.

    - Thanked her and she wished me a good day :goofy:

I hope this clears it up!

  12. Ok guys i need a suggestion. We recently got a checklist only because my husband left one space blank and didnt write N/A so seeing how you can get a checklist even because of such petty issues I was wondering if I need to send in a print out WITH MY CIVIL DOCS saying that according to travel.state.gov I do not require a PCC for Saudi Arabia OR Pakistan? Should I? Because we cannot afford any more delay we are already waiting for our consulate change email's reply since the 31st of march

    SUGGESTIONS PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEE

Just wondering what did your husband leave blank so we can learn?? :)

As for suggestions, yah you should print it out and highlight it so they see it! There's no telling what idiot is going to review your documents and send a checklist ;)

  13. When I thought I couldn't hate NVC more... Our AOS fee was rejected after showing PAID for a week. We already mailed the AOS package! And our IV fee shows PAID too but we know it's gonna be rejected too!

We're on the phone with NVC now. They better not make us send the whole AOS package again! :ranting:

Just wondering why are your payments getting rejected after PAID? Did it come out of your bank account at all? It just seems odd that it would happen like that.
