My joint-sponsor has applied for an extension for 2013 taxes because she files jointly with her husband and he is self-employed so he always gets an extension.
I have her 2013 tax extension form to send in along with all of the other documents.
These are the documents I will be sending in the AOS package:
· AOS bar-coded cover sheet
· Form I-864 (signed and dated by petitioner)
· 2013 Tax Transcripts for petitioner
· Letter explaining why petitioner was not required to file taxes for 2012 and 2011
· Pay stub from April 2014 detailing year to date pay for petitioner
· Letter of Employment for petitioner
· Form I-864 (signed and dated by joint sponsor)
· Form 4868 Extension to file 2013 Income Tax Return for joint sponsor
· 2012 Tax Transcripts for joint sponsor
· 2011 Tax Transcripts for joint sponsor
· 2010 Tax Transcripts for joint sponsor
· Letter of Employment for joint sponsor
· Copy of W2's for years 2013, 2012, 2011 for joint sponsor
· Photocopy of the birth certificate of joint sponsor (Proof of US citizenship)
Now, I know everyone is saying that will ask for the 2013 tax transcripts for the joint sponsor at the interview. My question is what if she doesn't get her taxes filed by that date? She has told me multiple times that she has no control over when it gets filed because it is up to her husband and his accountant. What can I do in this situation? I am so worried that I will get denied at the interview because of this. Or at the very least that they will put me in AP until they get the required 2013 tax transcript. This is stressing me out and I would really like an honest answer here.
Extra information:
petitioner makes just below poverty line for 2 people and that is why we have a joint sponsor. His annual income is $15,725.
Joint sponsor makes well above poverty line for her household size including me (5 people). Her annual income is $70,620.

Ohh, by the way, Sofialsabella and Capt Ewok have apparently updated the timeline options!
Quote from Sofialsabella:
Hi VJers.
I was working with Capt Ewok to fix the timeline fields on Visa Journey. Capt Ewok has finished making the changes and so, please go into your timelines and check it out.
Edit your timelines with the new information in the new fields. Thanks everyone and thanks Capt Ewok
Thanks for the heads up! The timeline is so much easier to work with now and not as confusing! Everyone should go update their timelines

hi guys ... i have a question ...
i am going through sample ds260 .. It asks for the address where the immigrant intend to live
and to mail the green card(permanent resident card) and the social security number to.........
my question is .
i am in a middle of buying a house right now and would have one before my wife gets here.
probably by July first week .,.....i cant put the address down cuz i am not 100%sure i will get the same house...
so which address should i write down in ds260 ......
can i put the current address and would be able to change it after i move to the new house ,,,?
Use your current addres on the form for where the immigrant intends to live. You can always change it when you move.
Do you have someone you can trust (parents house) that you can put down address for to send the green card? That might be easier instead of changing all of the addresses.

How old are your children? They most likely don't include that section for children as it really wouldn't apply. They can't work or go to secondary school.
I wouldn't stress about it. If anything just make sure that you have all relevant information at the interview.

Ds260 please help!
Here's a few things I came across and need some clarification please. In family information : spouse section it asks current spouse details and spouses address and if spouse is immigrating to us with you or at a later date? I just want to confirm I am filing this for my husband, I am the petitioner so these questions are related to my self his wife. Since I am already here in the us and petitioning for him to come it will be no to both answers correct. Or do I have it backwards should I be filling his out and are the questions about spouse regarding my husband the beneficiary. Sorry for any confusion I think I'm just confusing the hell out of myself lol.
Everything on the DS-260 is from the beneficiary's perspective. If you are the petitioner and spouse you will not be immigrating or following at a later date because you are already in the US.

hello plz reply me, did beneficiary or petitioner received any instruction letter through postal mail after NVC case number assigned. plz tell me how long did it take to arrive if they sent you one after assigning you case number.
You won't receive anything through postal mail. It is emailed about a week after you receive case number via phone. Call them and ask for the case number.

We didn't use a lawyer when my husband immigrated to Canada, so we figured we should be able to handle the opposite as well. What did people do before Forums like this existed?!
[...]
They either paid a ton of money to a lawyer to "figure it out" for them. OR like most people claim "back in my day it was a piece of cake to immigrate". You just got married and blah blah blah. The US didn't have crazy tight security measures like they do now...
-
I had an initial meeting with a lawyer to discuss the immigration process. At that point I already knew about VJ and had studied everything to do with the process extensively. Needless to say I was not impressed with the knowledge that this lawyer had. I knew way more about the process than him.
He also gave me the advice to get a NEXUS card (for Canadians and Americans to cross the border easier without hassle) and I asked him if my previous denial of entry would affect my acceptance. He told me no and that I would be fine with getting the card. Well I applied and was automatically denied. So I wasted $50 applying for the card and $100 for this meeting with a lawyer.

So we sent the IV package before our joint sponsor bailed out on us. Does it matter that the AOS package will only be sent like three weeks afterwards? If I understood correctly they're not going to do anything to the IV package until they get the AOS, am I right? All fees are paid and DS-260 is completed.
I may be wrong but I thought they would just review whatever package they get first? There is no time limit on when you send the AOS package, as long as it is before a year. Which I'm sure you are not going to wait that long
-
Just don't pay any of the bills or send in any paperwork. The only rule they have is to contact them once a year to keep the application active.

So, one thing I was kind of worried about for my AoS package: I did not file my 2013 taxes yet. but I included an extension valid till october 2014.
Thank God who ever reviewed my package knew what they were doing and it did not ended up in the hands of a newbie.
I called this morning and my friend JOY told me that NVC was waiting on my DS260 and IV documents. and when I asked her about AoS packet then she said that it was accepted as of yesterday.
Getting info from some of NVC customer reps is like pulling teeth.
Anyway, good news to get me going today.
I'll call again tomorrow in hopes for a CC. My IV packet was scanned into the system on the 28 April. One can dream, right?
Are you going to do your taxes before the interview? I've heard from advice that they will ask for the 2013 taxes at the interview even if you sent an extension to the NVC.
-
I also came across this, perfect for all of us.
That was fun! I just did this quiz the minute I woke up to test myself for the real interview haha
-
That's what I thought too- but there's no number at all. It's blank and won't let me type a number in. I will just write the 1 in
Thank you for answering!
Check that you are using the most current version of the pdf too.. maybe the older ones don't already have a 1 in there?
-
Could someone help me with this please? On the AOS form for "Household Size" I can't seem to type in a "1" for myself on the PDF. Did this happen to anyone else? I DO count myself as part of my household size, correct?
There should already be a 1 in the box for yourself. Make sure you aren't counting yourself twice. Good luck!

I just received an email about a checklist: reqeusting my wife's birth certificate and marriage certificate and AOS. Is this a "real" checklist or a "wait for an approval" checklist? how do I tell?
Your best bet is to call NVC and ask them. Even if it is a "fake" checklist it is best to call them to confirm. Good luck!

Finally my IV fee is showing PAID and my DS-260 is completed

hi guyz Please reply,
My wife send AOS package one month agao and we received an email from NVC regarding missing documents like "submit tax returns of 2013 and my wife job letter", Now she got her 2013 tax returns but she has not job letter and her compnay does not issue any kind of job letter , she is working as cashier, so what she do to manage the job letter from where she can fulfill this requirement we both are very tensed please advice as your ealrliest. We need the visajourney members help.
thanx
usman ali
I think we need more information to help you.. What exactly did your checklist letter ask for? Would you be able to copy and paste it here for us to read?
She should be able to contact her supervisor or HR at her work and request something. Just because she is only a cashier doesn't mean they can't give her anything. The letter only has to contain when she started working there, the salary amount, and if possible how long she will be working there (not a temporary job, as long as possible, etc. that sort of thing) Good luck!
-
yes, this morning i checked and it finally show paid
I'm so glad you posted! Mine is showing Paid now too hurray!
and to think I wasn't going to check it until later tonight because it was making me too depressed to log in and see in process every day.
Now to start my DS-260
-
hey guys -- on the DS-260, what should I do if my answer is too large for the box? specifically, the "STATE/PROVINCE OF BIRTH" box is too small for my answer
Oh yay you have access to your DS-260! So does that mean your IV Fee was finally changed to PAID today?

(((((((CASE COMPLETE))))))))
Just got off phone with NVC. I almost cried when the lady said your case was completed today, just waiting for interview to be scheduled. I had to ask her to repeat those magic words. And they are still scheduling for June interviews in Montreal
CONGRATS!!
Before I forget, here's a picture of my cat I adopted last week! We adopted from a shelter who rescued her and her 3 kittens found under a tarp last December from the cold. Due to the freezing temperatures, she got frostbite and lost the tips of her ears. But her and her babies survived (and were later adopted). It was her turn to finally get adopted
Her original name was Topanga, but we (or rather, I
) changed it to Catniss
Awww it's awesome to see that you adopted a rescued cat and a mommy cat on top of that! I did the same, my cat was brought in after having babies and we decided to adopt her instead of the kittens. She is such a sweetheart

I haven't had a reply for my EP yet. I believe it is taking them 30 days to review and reply to emails so I won't expect a reply until later this month.

Just make sure anyone accompanying you brings proper ID or they will not be allowed into the consulate at all.

It's a sad day Finland as well, joint sponsor had a freak out and will not be joint sponsoring after all. I'm so glad she decided at the last minute to ditch us... Well it took us a day to find another joint sponsor, so we should be set on that, but it will of course delay us since the new joint sponsor has the collect all the documents. And if someone asks why we didn't use our current (hopefully) joint sponsor from the start, well, it didn't even occur to us that petitioner's own mother would bail out on us. But she just did, so there
I'm so sorry you had to go through that. You would never once think something like that could happen with someone so close. I'm scared something like that will happen to me too. I'm just glad my husband and his mother are so close. He would never forgive her if she bailed like that.
Good luck with your new joint sponsor. I hope things come together quickly for you.

Did you send him the link on where to download the tax transcripts? You basically have to give these people a step by step guide... Ugh and then they still don't get it and try to play by their own rules. Its so frustrating because they don't understand the urgency we have and its hard not to turn nasty on them.
