  1. Just got home from vacation and found our NOAs in the mail. I am guessing they were probably delivered the 8th as they were postmarked for the 4th. We left home on the 7th so it is as good a guess as any I suppose. Also, we received the biometrics appointment letter probably a day or two before we got back home. Appointment for 26th. Going to try a walk-in this week! Yay!

    Yay!

  2. :help: Did everyone submit their 2012 taxes? We submitted 2011 2010 and 2009 along with 2011's w2's and 1099's. I really don't want to get an RFE and delay my processing time. :crying: I just hope they are content with what we have submitted. We just sent in my spouses 2012 taxes to the IRS. Arggg worrywart

Yes, 2012, 2011, and 2010. Try not to worry too much. Just prepare your 2012 tax documents in case they need it :)

  3. Got this from the international students and scholars office at work:

    IMPORTANT NEW TRAVEL INFORMATION

    NO MORE I-94 FORMS

    Starting April 30, 2013

Please be aware U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has announced that they will no longer be issuing I-94s when international visitors enter the United States. This new process will begin on April 30, 2013.

Many of you arrived and have paper I-94s (the small white card usually stapled into your passport). Please be sure you turn in your current I-94 when you exit the U.S. Be aware you will not receive a new I-94 form upon your return if you are entering the US after April 30, 2013.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has automated Form I-94 at air and sea ports of entry. The paper form will no longer be provided to an international traveler upon arrival, except in limited circumstances. CBP will continue to stamp passports with a CBP admission stamp on their travel document. Please check and make sure that your passport has a stamp with “F1/DS” if you are an F1 student, or “J1/DS” if you are a J1 student. If you need a copy of your I-94 (record of admission) for verification of immigration status or employment authorization, it can be obtained from www.cbp.gov/I94 where a copy can be printed out.

Please note, a paper Form I-94 is still issued at the land border ports of entry.

For more information, please visit the CBP website at http://www.cbp.gov/linkhandler/cgov/newsroom/fact_sheets/travel/i94_factsheet.ctt/i94_factsheet.pdf.

  4. He is from New Zealand, his parents born in Samoa with NZ citizenship. We live in San Francisco.

His Mom came here with her children worked as a nurse and now is retired in NZ. We have a letter from his Aunt/usc sponsoring him in the 80's who is now deceased so I can't find out what happened. Basically have no idea how far that got within the system.

I just found this out, he applied for a passport with an American Samoa birth certificate which he was born in NZ and his us citizen niece applied as well. They called and said they were ready to be picked up. They escorted him into back room and said he had forged documents, and that was it and can't issue passport. This was in 1995. Lol, I have been picking his brain for last 2 years of all details...still finding new info.

I just have to say this: it's these sorts of issues that make it harder for people who live and work in the country legally. For every document that a lot of us here had to apply for, and every convoluted Instruction Sheet we had to study, is a person out there who is forging a document or buying a fake Social Security Card. I do hope your husband finally tells you all the "new info" that you need. It's tough that his mother put him into this situation. I just can't say that I am sympathetic with the way he chose to deal with it. A lawyer might be though. Sounds like hours and hours of consult time.

  5. Hi I am also a March filer. I sent out my AOS packet on 3/28/2013 via USPS and the tracker states they received it on 3/30. I have yet to receive any information from USCIS. The wait is hard to handle. :(

    Welcome! :)

Also a march filer!!! Mailed 3/24 although not received until 4/3...... Long story :/ For the sake of diplomacy though ill consider myself a march filer :) the waiting game is putting me on the edge to hear back from them!! :P

    Welcome to you too! :)

  6. I am getting tired of sending money to the philipines to help my wifes family. My wife does not work to help with the bills. But

she expects me to keep sending her family lots of money. Do you feel this is ok, for the wife not to work to help her family?

Expecting her husband to support all her brothers and sisters, mom and dad all by himself. I am getting very tired of it !!!

Don't do it, especially if its making you mad. You will just have to sit down and have a long talk with your wife. Perhaps it's time for her to get a job.

  7. I will hit on the other part of your post that people have missed. She does not apply for YOUR tourist visa YOU do and YOU must be accepted based on YOUR own ties to your home country. For some countries that is not possible and others it is fairly easy. I have heard that India is one of the more difficult countries to optain a tourist visa from for some and for others not so. The only way to know is apply and see what happens.

This is correct. If she has traveled to the US before and returned, she will probably get another tourist visa. However, it sounds like she hasn't visited the US previously. In this case she would need to prove solid ties to her home country (longtime employment in a solid company, property ownership, business ownership, etc). If she does not have these, she could get denied.

OP is Indian. Don't know why she identifies as Italian on her membership summary.

  8. Hey Guys,

Received my Green Card today after being approved on the 27th March. I'm so glad everything is finally over (well for 2 years anyway) Again thank you for everyones help on VJ you knowledge and help has been a blessing to me and my family.

A message to anyone reading just starting out on their journey, don't dwell on all the negative stories and concentrate on you. Follow instructions you're given and you'll be approved before you know it and you'll be wondering what you were ever worried about. Also to those who came on the VWP again don't worry, i came on one from UK and it was never even brought up in the interview. They don't care how you came they just want to see your relationship is for real, our officer saw that within minutes of walking in the room.

I'll still be around on the forums to help out where i can then sharing my I-751 journey when it starts.

    All the best and goodluck

    Matt & Cyndi

    Congrats!

  9. I can see my status updates online, but haven't signed up for alerts yet. Still waiting for the NOA1 hard copies. I tidied up the two copies of the application packet yesterday and prepared folders for any additional updates. I've also been thinking about the extra paperwork one has to do when once receives the EAD and/or the green card. I know I sound super optimistic :), but I just want to be ready. Seen these online:

    - Update I-9 form with employer

    - Update driver's license to get rid of the legend, ""temporary for one yr or until H1 validity..."

    - Update immigration status on Social Security Card to get rid of words, "requires INS authorization"

    - Update banking profile

    - Start filing taxes as immigrant instead of non-immigrant (I've been a "resident for tax purposes" for a while now, so I'm not sure how this changes.)

    - Report changes of address to USCIS using the AR-11 form

Sent in our stuff a week ago. Waiting patiently for any kind of reaction.... -_-

    Whoohoo! :)
