There are obvious problems with the service centers, CSC in particular and it's unfair to dub this a 'first world problem' when peoples lives an families are having to deal with this. There are people who have never seen their newborn children because of the delays, most of us will be apart from our loved ones for a year of our lives, how dare someone belittle the issue like that. Regarding the self-harm issue, I have the same thing. Just get a signed letter from your GP stating you are no threat to yourself or others, and if you have any history of mental illness, get him to note the treatment, duration and prognosis on the same letter (DOS website asks for this regarding medicals).

Where specifically are you having questions? Perhaps that would help. If you've read the first few posts in that thread, then you have what you'll need, but if there's something specific, that would be good to know.

Yes, the case goes to NVC first where it gets assigned an LND number. You or your fiancé can call to get the number. You'll need that to schedule the medical exam at Knightsbridge. You can do that at any time. If you just received the paper NOA2, then the petition should be on its way to NVC or even in London.
There's a thread in the VJ Consulate & USCIS forum on how to track packages from NVC to different consulates/embassies so you can determine when the petition package has arrived in London. From there, get your medical scheduled, send in all of the DS forms (forms only, not the supporting documentation...take it with you to the interview) with the exception of the DS-2001 readiness form. Once you go to the medical exam, mail the DS-2001 the same day. Be sure to make copies of your police certificate and subject access report details and bring it with you to the medical exam.
The affidavit of support and the supporting materials (tax return transcripts, paystubs, etc.) go with you to the interview. Don't mail those to the embassy.

The order can vary a little. Some people try to jump the gun and call here and there to save a few days time. No real need to do that or track your package if you have poor organizational skills. Just take it in the intended order. No need to cut corners because you have to wait on the Subject Access Report anyway,
Here's some background of what is supposed to happen- (copied from a list I made for another person.)
    1. Petition gets approved and USC (US citizen) gets notified by mail. It shows an expiration in 4 months
    2. File goes to NVC for only a few days. This is the hand-off to the Dept of State. Gets a new case number LNDxxxxx and is sent to London. USC gets a letter from the NVC telling new case number and it's gone to London.
***At this point you can call the Dept of State for info on your case. It is a US phone number. DOS 202-663-1225 press 1, then 0. They don't charge per minute to give your information.
    3. London takes a couple of weeks maybe, but eventually logs in your case and sends a paper letter to the UK person with instructions on how to apply for the visa. A description of that is in this post in the LONDON K1 thread http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/350185-london-2012-k1s-from-noa2-to-interview-thread/?p=5137390 . The letter is posted in the same forum here http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/350185-london-2012-k1s-from-noa2-to-interview-thread/?p=5180175.
The London web page of instructions is here Instructions for Immigrant Visa (K) Applicants Applying for a Visa in London.
    4. The UK person sends in four forms with information. As long as those get in before the I-129F petition expires everything is fine. If there is a delay, the letter says that London will need a notarized letter of intent from the USC (at the interview) to assure them she is still on board. If they still don't get the four application forms forms from the UK person and the petition is expired, London will mail a second letter asking The UK person if they still intend to apply for a visa.
    5. After sending the four forms, the UK person follows the rest of the website instructions to gather the documents required for the interview. That list is here http://london.usembassy.gov/application_documents.html
    6. A medical exam is scheduled. They will want to know your LND number. It's on the letter from the embassy. They will want to see your police certificate. The medical results go to the embassy by courier.
    7. When all the documents needed (see #5) are in hand, and the medical has been scheduled, the UK person lets London know they are ready to interview by sending form DS-2001 with a cover letter telling date of marriage (if you have something sorta planned), date of medical exam, email address.
    8. When London has three things from you they will give an appointment. Those things are a)application forms, b) medical results, c ) Ds-2001 ready for interview form.
    9. London mails an Appointment Letter giving the date and time.
    10. The UK person calls the embassy line ( 09042-450-100 ) to pay the visa fee over the phone by credit card. A receipt is emailed. Bring the receipt to the interview appointment to show you have paid.

That's a question asked on the medical questionnaire you need to complete for the medical exam -- page 9, question 11: http://photos.state.gov/libraries/unitedkingdom/164203/cons-visa/iv018a_medical.pdf
I don't believe the Knightsbridge docs to that in-depth, at least from what my now-husband told me of his experience there last autumn. You'd likely need to get something from your GP stating you're no longer in danger of harming yourself/others to take to the exam. This topic comes up a lot and from what I've read to date, it hasn't prevented anyone from receiving a K-1.

I was implying the OP was misguided. We were all zen and patient at the 6-8 month mark, what will be will be etc. It's not like we hadn't considered or practiced what he'd posted.
This guy I was implying to be a troll and belittling the issue. Better check our first world privilege, love is a privilege, having 2 arms and complaining about wasting a year of our lives to immigration on a forum privilege, lets all take a moment to reflect on the greater issues in the world the make our arguing on a forum seem minor. Oh that's right, you're calling out these first world problems, doing so from the comfort of your homes with internet access. Why aren't you out saving the world instead of posting here on this first world issue? You don't care so stop acting like you're above it all.

Someone who has a K-1 approved telling people who are waiting in line for longer than he/she did to relax is like Marie Antoinette telling hungry Parisians to eat cake. Well intended but hardly useful advice.

I don't think that relaxing helps anyone, to be honest. Take it an hour at a time and just do whatever to survive....

    totally the same!
i was being really patient and collected about the wait, you know, because that's just how it was and there's nothing we could do except wait. There's no queue jumping, dream act petitions or whatever that caused the slow down, christmas, no amount of phone calls would give anything but script ad being told to wait... it's just the cards we're dealt.
but oh man, when it passed 6months, i just got peeved off! even if we get approved this week (doubtful), i'm still going to miss valentines, our anniversary and his birthday. if we get an rfe, that's like what at least a month or 2 turnaround. our lives are passing by because of this bs. and wth is happening with csc? you cant just stop approving petitions, surely they coulda left a couple guys on them.
