Now your waiting game starts! You can see if there's a topic for June filers to see how fast/ slow the other petitions are going.
Don't panic if yours happens to be a slow one: you'll get there too!
Good luck with the rest of your journey!

An annulment is not a divorce. An annulment means the marriage never existed.
You will put SINGLE, and include the annulment documents with the petition.

You can mail it per the web site, but do you really want to trust your green card in the mail? Also you're required to carry your green card, although few actually do for fear of losing it.
Make sure you file your AOS with your married name. Once the database is updated, then you can get your SS card updated with the name and removal of the note.
My wife an I waited until after our wedding to get the green card, so it started with her married name. But our state gives the name after marriage right on the certificate, so the SSA allowed it. Yet when we returned to get the note removed from the SS card, the database still was showing her maiden name. The agent at the SSA was able to request they update that, since her green card came with the correct name.
Yes when the green card arrives, he can get the "valid for work only with" note removed.

All you need is a photocopy of the marriage certificate you get back from the court. If he did not file in 2012 or 2011, then he needs to include a statement about why he was not legally required to file taxes for those years. You have a couple choices on how to do this. On the lines where you would enter the Total Income for those tax years you can write in "Income too low. Did not file" and leave that as your explanation, or on those lines put "See Attachment" or just leave them blank and include a separate sheet to explain.

No, just tell the clerk when go to get the license that you are a non-resident without an SSN.

Correction. As a K-1 visa holder she is a LEGAL ALIEN ALLOWED TO WORK. She will need the EAD before she can begin work, but nonetheless she is still legal to work with this authorization.

    J & L got a reaction from Trisha89 in Which Senator's are helpfull which are useless??Please help! K1: TODAY 6 MONTHS WAITING FOR NOA2
I was stopped twice for a secondary inspection but was granted entry to the US on both occasions. Since we filed for our K1 visa I haven't traveled to the USA, so I'm not sure whether they'd let me in or not, seeing I have a visa pending. We've been apart for almost 10 months now and can't wait for this to be over so we can be reunited and start our lives together.

If it's of any help we're also in our early 20s and have no criminal background and our NOA2 took almost 6 months. We filed for an e-request after 5 months and 2 weeks (couldn't before that) and got a letter in the mail saying they were still working on our case. Shortly after that we got our NOA2 and it was such a huge relief to know that our case wasn't lost or denied.
It sucked to wait: everyone on here got their approvals in record time, some in 2 months and others in under a month and we just waited and waited, not knowing what took so long. I was really stressed out, usually I like knowing things in advance and planning things but it was impossible to predict anything in this situation. We still have no idea as to why our case took longer than most who filed with CSC around the time we did but you'll get your approval as well, I'm sure. Maybe you could try calling USCIS and ask about your case, it may or may not move things along or force them to make a decision soon - I mean they're going to get sick from receiving calls from you at some point!
Now we're waiting for my medical and interview and crossing our fingers for a positive outcome. You'll get there too, trust me. I know it's such a stressful thing to go through but if all goes fine just imagine how happy we'll be to be with our loved ones.

Keep us updated and best of luck to you both. If you need to vent you can PM me.

Yes, recent pay stubs and letter from employer along with statement as to why he was not legally required to file taxes. No sample for this. Just write that his income did not meet the required amount to be legally obligated to file.
If you use a co-sponsor, they provide their own I-134 and the same documentation, most recent tax transcript, letter from employer and/or recent pay stubs. They should also include proof of being a USC or LPR. However, Italy has been known to not accept co-sponsors so be aware of that. You can search here on VJ to find posts about that.

Once the CEAC Status Update turns to READY, wait a few days and then send them an email at IVNAPLES at state dot gov with all your details (Names, Case Number).
I sent them an email the day the CEAC status updated to ready and they answered almost right away that they couldn't yet see it in their system (I think it was either a Thursday or a Friday).

They then sent me an email Monday morning (with Packet 3 attached to it) that they had received the application. They asked me to look at the content of packet 3 and return the statement to them as soon as I was ready to have the appointment scheduled. I sent them an email with the "Applicant's Statement" right afterwards and got my appointment letter (literally another email), a couple of hours later, on the same day!

    Hope this helps!

Looking forward to hearing news RE your case!

Which country/consulate will you be having your interview at? Processew are different per country. Like with my country, we are the ones that set the appointment so you may wanna search more about how yours is done in your country.
Send another one with your NOA2. Yes they do reply to emails but it takes about 2 weeks. They either say they dont have your files yet (as shown on one of the posts above me) or they say they have completed the processing of your petition and give you your case number. But they usually try to reply only when your case number is already available.
The status will change to "at NVC" and then "in transit" when the files are on its way to your consulate. Once consulate processes it, it becomes "Ready".
Best way is still to call them, you get faster answers.

J & L reacted to VanessaTony in AOS, EAD & AP from K1 - the Aussie way (doc list included)
    Hi All
I have started this thread in this specific sub-forum because I will be using Australian colloquialisms (sayings) and spelling. I don't know whether being from Australia will make any difference,.. whether it be my documents don't need to be translated, or if our people fill in stuff differently (like the medical - explained below).
I started the thread itself though, because can't find any one central page that has ALL the documents for AOS, EAD and AP listed. This list relates to me and my case, but it is also the BASIC list because my case is simple, i.e. I don't have any kids or anything else remotely difficult to worry about. I didn't get any RFE's while doing K1 (here's my K1 thread: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=206016 ), and I'm aiming for the same this time around too. I have read and re-read the instructions several times. I read every line, and not just stuff related to me, just in case it's got a little note (this actually happened on one form) that might affect me. This list is IN NO WAY a substitute for you also reading through the forms, but I hope that it helps you get an idea of when you should start sourcing things (like paperwork for the affidavit of support) and making sure you have everything you need before you get to your applying "deadline".
On that note, there is no "deadline" for applying for AOS, as long as you marry within 90 days of arriving on your K1 visa. However it is recommended that you apply before your I-94 expires as some people have experienced issues with ICE (not deportation, just hassles and on 2 occasions I've read about, being locked up until a judge tells the ICE person they were wrong and being forced to pay fees as well as immediate AOS), but just as many (if not more) have had no issues and applied for AOS years after their I-94 expires. My main reasons for applying ASAP is because I want to work and I personally don't like not being "sure" of my status. Also, if there is a period of 180 days between your I-94 and the date your AOS is processed, you MAY encounter a ban on trying to re-enter the US if you leave and try and use the AP document. For that reason, try and apply for AOS well before 180 days after your I-94 expires... just to be safe.
Also, there is currently only one fee payable, being $1,070.00 for the AOS, EAD & AP (updated 23 Nov 2010: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=5be73dc5cb93b210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=8a2f6d26d17df110VgnVCM1000004718190aRCRD ). In July 2007 the fee for AOS changed and the rules altered so that if you send the EAD and AP at the same time as AOS (or while it's pending) the fee for EAD and AP are waived. Whether you apply for EAD and AP at the same time as AOS the fee remains the same and whether you think you need them or not, as the fee is waived, it's always better to have than not have, "just in case".
    So here we go
    Definition of terms:
I-94# - Is the admission/departure number on the I-94 card (full image here: http://www.visajourney.com/gallery/albums/...mmigration1.jpg )
A# number - Alien number - can sometimes be found on your visa under "annotation" starting with A0 then 8 digits. Also found on your NOA2 above the beneficiaries name (image here: http://www.visajourney.com/gallery/albums/...F-NOAs/NOA2.jpg )
AOS - Adjustment of Status - Applied for after entering the US on a K1 visa and marrying within 90 days. Changes status to "conditional permanent resident" and you will be sent a green card. This process takes around 90 days however it can take MUCH longer.
AP - Advanced Parole - Allows you to re-enter the USA while your AOS is pending. You are allowed to leave whenever you want, but doing so without the AP document (or green card) means you will not be able to re-enter. Leaving without it also results in your case being considered "abandoned".
CO - Consular Officer - In this thread related to the person actually processing my documents
EAD - Employment Authorisation Document - Allows you to work whilst the AOS is being processed, as long as you have a SSN of course. Once you received your GC your EAD is no longer needed
GC - Green card - short-form for green card so I don't have to keep typing it
IO - Interviewing Officer - The person who will interview me (if needed). Apparently not every case requires an interview. Lets see if I can be one of the few who don't need one
Non-Immigrant Visa Number - This is the RED number found on your visa (image here: http://www.visajourney.com/gallery/albums/...after_entry.jpg )
RFE - Request for further information - Received if something you mailed in is incomplete or missing. It doesn't cancel your case, just slows things down a fair bit, so doing everything to prevent getting one is your aim
First things first. VJ does have guides:
    VJ AOS Guide: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=k1k3aos
    VJ EAD Guide: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=k1k3ead
    And also example forms:
    Example forms: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...p;page=examples
The guides suggest doing a cover letter. Personally I'm doing a cover letter for each separate case (AOS, EAD and AP). I have read that the CO's don't tend to read the cover letters so really why bother, BUT I'm not doing it for them so much as for me. Filing so many documents means a lot of stuff to remember and I also think it looks neater and prettier. Also, while reading through the instructions I go through and fill in the cover letter with the attachments needed so I don't forget anything.
The USCIS has actually put together their OWN page of tips for putting together a package for mailing: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD I haven't decided if I'm going to hole punch yet or just bulldog clip as it seems that while it's appreciated it doesn't change anything so if I have a hole-punch available... maybe.
I ALWAYS go to the USCIS website to obtain forms: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD as this way you always make sure you have the most up-to-date form. Also, remember to check the filing location as it may have changed since the form was made. To do this, always make sure you go to the main form page (not the pdf, the place that links you the .pdf) such as this for AOS: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD and line four says "Where to file". In this case it tells you it depends on the category you are applying under, on other forms it might say "check the form" or "check the instructions".
As stated on each form, originals are only required when it specifically says "original" (like the forms with official signatures) otherwise copies are sufficient.

The two items listed below are on the VJ AOS Guide, however NOWHERE on the forms, or their instructions is it mentioned that these items are required. These items only serve as additional information. You are required to bring your passport to the interview (if you have an interview) so perhaps by mailing this information you might not need to have one. Ultimately more info is better than less info (within reason of course) so it can't hurt. Personally I'll be including them in my parcel (in my attempt to avoid an interview ) but it makes sense that they're not needed as your Alien number is your identifier now (where with the K1 your passport number and then case number were).
    - Photocopy of passport biographical details page
    - Photocopy of USA entry stamp dated #####
Note 1: This form is now available that requests that you receive and email and text letting you know your application has been received http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD
Note 2: There is a huge point of contention on VJ regarding whether or not to send DS-3025 or if you will require form I-693 (immunisations only). The reason for this is, the paperwork clearly states that if you COMPLETED your immunisations PRIOR to your K1 interview in your home country (and thus your medical information is complete in the paperwork you handed in at POE (and subsequently forwarded on)) then only the copy of the DS-3025 is required. HOWEVER some people who assumed their info was complete and sent in the DS-3025 received an RFE requesting they submit a form I-693. Further information is mentioned on this VJ thread: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=101202 So whether you go to the trouble of obtaining one so you don't risk and RFE and thus a slow-down is up to you. Personally I am in the process of calling Civil Surgeons (CS's) in my area to find our their fee. If the fee is reasonable we might do it just so we don't risk the RFE but at the same time i honestly think my form is fine and I have all immunisations filled in, either with dates or "not age appropriate". I'll let you know what I decide and then what the outcome is. Remember though every case is different, no matter how similar they might be.
Note 3: Tax information is only REQUIRED for the most recent tax year. Question 25 on the I-864 still requires that you indicate your earnings for the most recent tax years, whether you provide evidence of this income or not. There are two tick boxes in that question, where you can indicate whether you are only including the most recent tax year, or the three most recent. I personally prefer to send in IRS transcripts so that you are sure that you have not excluded any tax information and I also prefer to send in all three years of tax information just to "be safe". Information for obtaining the transcripts is located here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/235331-aos-ead-ap-from-k1-the-aussie-way-doc-list-included/page__view__findpost__p__3614293 .

    - 2 passport photos (US passport size) - name and alien number printed lightly on back in pencil or felt pen
    - Photocopy of passport biographical details page **See Note 2**
As we're applying together with the AOS then the following isn't REQUIRED, however if you choose to include it, it's up to you, like i said before, more info is better than less info
    - Copy of I-94 – Arrival/Departure record (front & back)
    - Copy of Marriage certificate (to show name change) **See Note 3**
Note 1: Being adjustment applicant's, we're under category c9. You will see there's also a category for K1 and K3 visas (a6) but this is for when you're not applying at the same time as the AOS.
Note 2: It actually says "If no prior EAD has been issued, you must submit a copy of a Federal Government-issued identity document such as a passport..." as well as some other examples but personally I think the passport is the easiest one.
Note 3: The next issue for me (being female, married and changing my name) is my passport is still in my maiden name. For that reason it seems to make sense to include a copy of my marriage licence. Although these things are included with the AOS application, they can always shred multiple copies
    --AP--

As with the EAD, this isn't REQUIRED but I will probably include it because the AP form doesn't actually have a space for "prior name":
    - Copy of Marriage certificate (to show name change)
Note 1: It actually says "copy of an official photo identification document showing your name, photo, and date of birth". Like with the EAD example, passport is easiest I think
    General
An important thing to remember is if you change your address at ANY stage while you are an LPR (or their sponsor) you are required to change your address within 30 days of moving. There are penalties for not doing so. The USCIS has an online change of address service but you STILL need to actually post a form to them. Here's the site: https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=coa . The reason for the paper form is so it's changed on the masterbase.
The current postal details for these forms (as of 3 Dec 09 ) is:
    File at:

    For courier/express delivery:
    USCIS
    Attn: FBAS
    131 South Dearborn - 3rd Floor
    Chicago, IL 60603-5517
I, like most, will be submitting my forms by express mail so I'll use the bottom address
    PAYMENT
It's important when writing the cheque that you write:
"One Thousand Ten and 00/100" or it might be returned.
Here is the USCIS link outlining the cheque writing requirements: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD because if you're like me, it doesn't make sense to write it that way and I wouldn't have written it like that but their wish is our command

    J & L reacted to Saylin in NVC Filers - October 2013
Upon suggestion of a VJ member (thanks foobaz123), I have created a FAQ of the most common questions I see here on VJ concerning the NVC process. If you know of a common question that isn't mentioned here, please inform me through a reply in this thread or PM me. I'd be more than happy to include it here.

    FAQ
How long does it take to get a case number assigned after NOA2?

As of recently, it's been taking around 3-4 weeks, depending where you were approved. Check my spreadsheet (linked in post 1) to see where NVC is currently assigning case numbers. If you were approved at a local office, it's taking about one month just for the case to be sent and received by NVC. Then another few weeks for the case number to be assigned.

When (and how often) should I start calling NVC about the case number?

Wait at least a week from your NOA2 date, then start calling. Call about 1-3 times a week for now. Once a few weeks have passed, then start calling every single day afterwards until you get it.

What happens if my case doesn't arrive in a timely manner? (Timely manner being the current wait time)

VJ member tokinaija suggests: "Call USCIS, and specifically request to be connected to a Tier 2 supervisor (bypassing the contract customer reps). When connected to a Tier 2 representative, request that you want confirmation that your approved case has been physically shipped to NVC. In amenable words, request for the specific date that the package was shipped. If you are lucky, you will get someone who wold take the time to confirm this for you."

Will I receive XXXX (initial information package, invoices, instructions, interview letter, etc) by email or snail mail?

As long as you give over the email addresses of both the petitioner and beneficiary (once you have a case number), ALL correspondence from NVC will be sent through email. This does not necessarily mean that YOU can send THEM information by email though. Only those eligible for EP (electronic processing) can email the AOS and IV packages.
What's the difference between EP and online forms?
Online forms are just that, online forms. The DS-261 and DS-260 are NOT part of electronic processing. Electronic processing (EP) is emailing in documents. Not everyone can do this yet. You still have to be eligible for EP before emailing in packages. The link to see who's eligible is in the first post.
    What's the DS-261?
The DS-261 replaces the old DS-3032. So, instead of sending the DS-3032 once a case number is assigned, you'll have to wait for the DS-261 to become available on the online forms portal (link in the first post). Once it's available, fill it out. It's exactly like the DS-3032, except online. If you wish to see screenshots of the DS-261, you can do so here: Saylin's DS-261 screenshots (these are screenshots I uploaded back in 2011, but should still be the same, or at least similar). To go through all the screenshots, click on the 'next' button (there are 6 images in total). Once you've submitted the DS-261, print out the confirmation page at the end. This is for your own records.
    What's the DS-260?
The DS-260 replaces the old DS-230. As before, you will still submit the IV package, just without the DS-230. The DS-260 will be done online. For me, it was only available once the IV appeared as PAID in the payment portal. Not sure if it's changed or not at all since then. But, at the most, it'll be a few days after you pay the IV bill. Like the DS-261, it'll be on the online forms portal (link in first post). You can do the DS-260 before or after you send the IV package, it doesn't matter. As long as it gets done, NVC doesn't care.
Please note: depending on how prepared you are, the DS-260 can take a few hours. You can always save and return, if you wish; it doesn't need to be all done in one sitting. But, it'll take an hour at the least (30 minutes maybe if you're really fast). My suggestion is to have a DS-230 pre-filled out and that way you can just copy over the answers. This will shave off quite some time if you prepare ahead. But be warned, there are some differences between the DS-230 and DS-260 where the DS-260 asks for more information. You can view screenshots (and thus the differences) here from when it was first released back in 2010: http://www.docstoc.com/docs/49845403/DS-260-screen-shots There have been changes since this original DS-260 was released, but it's quite similar still. As with the DS-261, print out the confirmation page at the end. Make sure to bring this to the interview, just in case. It took Montreal quite a few months to get used to the online forms, so they were still requesting DS-230s at the interview. So, it might not be a bad idea if everyone going through NVC now brought a completed DS-230 to their interview, in case it's requested. Having a DS-230 already completed will shave off much time if you had to suddenly fill out the form at the embassy/consulate.

What do I do after my case number is assigned?

Get the IIN from an operator (ask for the 'Invoice Identification Number', not IIN) and also ask for the Beneficiary Identification Number (BIN). Give over the email addresses of the beneficiary and petitioner. If you are doing EP (and are eligible for it), then send the optin email. Once possible, send the DS-261 online (may take a day or two before you can sign onto the online forms portal).

After the case number is assigned, how long does it take for the AOS bill to be invoiced?

Recently, it's been taking a week or less.
How much are the two bills? And how do I pay them?

The AOS costs $88 (per case) and the IV is $230 (per person). They have to be paid with a US banking account on the payment portal (site linked in first post). See information here: http://travel.state..../info_3906.html If you can't or don't want to pay online, here's a link to how to pay through the mail: http://travel.state..../info_3905.html .

Help! I can't sign into the payment portal. Why?

If you're getting an error message ("Please be advised that the case that you have attempted to access is not eligible for further processing by the National Visa Center at this time…" or "This case is in the process of termination. Fee payments and online forms can no longer be accepted…" or "You cannot make online payments for your case at this time. Please contact the NVC if you have questions or need further information."), do NOT panic. This is actually good news! If you just got your case number, then this message means NVC is inputting your case in their system. If you get this message a few days after case number generation, then it's a good possibility that NVC is invoicing your AOS bill. And if this message appears a few days after DS-3032 acceptance, then there's a good chance the IV bill is being invoiced.

What is needed in the AOS package?

    Generally, the following is needed:

    With no joint sponsors:

    - Bar-coded cover sheet from payment portal
    - Cover letter (optional)
    - Completed, signed, and dated I-864 form by petitioner
    - Tax information* of petitioner (either just the last year OR the last 3 years)
    - Employment letter of petitioner (optional, but good proof of CURRENT income)
    - Pay stub(s) of petitioner (optional, but good proof of CURRENT income)

    With joint sponsors:

    - All of the above of the petitioner
    - Completed, signed, and dated I-864 of joint sponsor
    - Tax information* of joint sponsor (either just the last year OR the last 3 years)
    - Proof of US citizenship/residency of joint sponsor (ex: copy of US passport, US birth certificate, US naturalization certificate, or front & back of green card)
    - Employment letter of joint sponsor (optional, but good proof of CURRENT income)
    - Pay stub(s) of joint sponsor (optional, but good proof of CURRENT income)

If the joint sponsor is a household/family member, also include proof of that relationship (example: if a parent is a joint sponsor, include the petitioner's birth certificate with parents' name on it to show link).

*You have two choices here of what to send in:

    - Tax return transcripts ordered from IRS (preferred by NVC and of most consulates/embassies) RECOMMENDED
    OR
    - Tax returns (1040) and W2s and any other schedules (if applicable)

What if I (the petitioner) live with my spouse in their foreign country? Do I need to include anything in either package?

You'll need to provide proof of US domicile with the AOS package, as well as bring it with you to the interview. Please read the I-864 instructions (pages 3 and 4) for information about it. This is NOT needed if the petitioner is living in the US. Here is a sample cover letter to include in the package (it lists MANY possible documents, some may not be applicable of course, to prove that you have, or will re-establish, domicile in the US):

Thanks to VJ member lemayz for this suggestion!

I sent the AOS package but got a checklist for the IV package (which I either have sent or not sent yet) [or vice versa]. What's going on?

If you sent the packages separately, then get a checklist for the other one, just ignore it; it's a false checklist. The same applies if you sent just one of the packages and get a checklist for the other. Please understand that as soon as NVC reviews a package, they very frequently generate a checklist for the other package, without even checking if they have it in the building first. If you do get a checklist for one of the packages, you do NOT have to use that bar-coded cover sheet; you can still use the one from the payment portal.

The only time a checklist is real (and not false) is if it asks for something very specific missing in a package (like a police certificate, for example). If it asks for something general, like the entire package, then you can assume it's false. Call up an operator at NVC to confirm.

Thanks to VJ member sulhaq for this suggestion!

When does the IV bill get invoiced?

About a week or two after you complete the DS-261, NVC will accept and add it to your case file. A few days after that, the IV bill will be invoiced. You won't get an email of acceptance, so you need to call to find out when it's been accepted and added to the case file.
What is needed in the IV package?

    Generally, the following is needed:

    - Bar-coded cover sheet from payment portal
    - Two passport-style photographs (2" x 2") of beneficiary (on the back, write: beneficiary's full name, date of birth, and case number)
    - Copy of bio-data page of beneficiary's unexpired passport
    - Original or Certified Copy of beneficiary's birth certificate, PLUS A PHOTOCOPY
    - Original or Certified Copy of marriage certificate, PLUS A PHOTOCOPY
    - Original police certificate(s)

Please read: http://travel.state..../info_3195.html for additional documents if applicable (such as petitioner documents in IR-5 cases or divorce/military records or proof of permanent residency, etc).

Also read the country-specific documents linked in the first post. There may be additional documents needed not listed above.

If my documents are not in English, do they need to be translated?

    NVC's website states:

"All documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations and submitted to the NVC. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator stating that the:

    -Translation is accurate, and

    -Translator is competent to translate."

Despite this, I have seen cases of people getting checklists for not having translations of non-English documents. I'd suggest you get everything translated anyways to be on the safe side. It's not needed, but highly recommended.
Additionally, embassies/consulates in some countries require translations of documents into English even though they are written in the official language of the country, so it's best to check with the embassy/consulate to see what document translation requirements are. [Thanks to Ryan H for his suggestion on this last statement!]

How long does it take for a bill to appear as PAID in the payment portal after paying it?

Usually just a day or two, but can take longer.

Do I have to wait for NVC to email me instructions before mailing packages?

NO. If you wait on NVC for this, it can take WEEKS to get anything from them. As long as the respective bill has been paid in the payment portal, you can send in your package.
Members have had luck sending the packages as soon as they pay the bills (since the bar-coded cover sheet becomes available after paying). If you're not going to wait for it to appear as PAID in the portal, at least wait until the money has cleared the bank account.

What address do I send the AOS and IV packages?

You will find their addresses on their respective bar-coded cover sheets, which are printed off the payment portal.

Can the packages be sent from abroad or does it have to be from within the US?

Doesn't matter where the package is sent from; NVC just needs to receive it.

Do the packages have to be sent separately or can they be sent together?

Either one or the other works. Again, as long as NVC receives both needed packages, they don't really care. Each way has their pros and cons.

Help! I called NVC and they said they haven't received my package(s) yet, but the tracking says it was delivered!

Don't worry. Unfortunately, the package won't show up in the operator's system until the package has begun to be reviewed. At that point, it's entered in the system. So, don't fret. If your tracking says it arrived, it arrived.

After sending in the packages, how long does it take for them to get reviewed?

Lately, it's been taking just 1-2 weeks after it's received, but as with everything, it can take longer.
Do I get an email if my packages have been accepted?

No, not that I have seen. You have to call NVC every day and ask for updates on your case to find out if a package has been reviewed and accepted.

Note: If you're in the EP program, lately people have been getting acceptance emails, but don't ever rely on receiving emails from NVC. Call, call, call.

Do I get an email when my case is completed?

Generally, no. Only those doing EP (electronic processing) get the case complete emails. There are some non-EP folk that get case complete emails. It used to be rare, but it's becoming more common. Although, they're delayed by almost a week or more, so do not rely on them. Again, to find out if your case is complete (the fastest way), call an operator at NVC and ask.

After the case is completed, what happens?

In most cases: the case is put in a queue to get an interview date scheduled. Once an interview date is scheduled, the case is shipped out to the consulate/embassy.

Who should I be calling to find out my interview date?

You could call NVC and/or DOS. Both have access to your case information. Their numbers are linked above.

How long does it take to get an interview date after a case complete?

This varies by country and consulate/embassy. Some people find out within a day or two, others a few weeks, then the few unfortunate that wait a few months (ex: Ghana). To get the best estimate for YOUR country is to search, using the timeline feature, when others got case completes and when they got their interview dates scheduled.

When do interview dates get scheduled?

If you talk to operators at NVC, they'll always tell you they ONLY schedule during the second week of each month. This is a LIE. They schedule interviews ALL month long. Many people (like myself) have gotten scheduled during the last week of the month. I repeat, they schedule ALL month long.

How long does it take for NVC to mail my case out after getting an interview date scheduled?

Usually it's the next day, but it can take up to a week or more in rare cases.

Is it possible to get a tracking number for my green card after POE?

Yes it is! Follow VJ member Darnell's advice:

"Call USCIS, get a human, ask for the TRACKING NUMBER on the green card.
Yes, such a thing exists, and they will give it to you when asked.

Then call USPS and inquire for status.
In the end, if USPS sent it back to USCIS, you'll need to call USCIS again, talk with an ISO about 'returned mail pieces', go over your address again on the telephone, and ask to have all returned mail pieces sent back to you."

    -------------------------------------------------------

Please note: the above time frames are just estimates. Do NOT freak out if your case takes a little bit longer. The time frames are constantly changing. They also depend on NVC's work load for that day/week.

    -------------------------------------------------------

    Summary of NVC process:

    - get case number and IIN, give email addresses over
    - complete the online DS-261
    - pay the AOS bill, once it's invoiced
    - once the bill appears as PAID, mail the AOS package
    - pay the IV bill, once it's invoiced
    - once the bill appears as PAID, mail the IV package
    - complete the online DS-260
    - respond to any checklists, if applicable
    - get case complete
    - get interview date scheduled
    - case is sent to embassy/consulate

J & L reacted to Nikkosan in Naples has our package! (K1 Visa)
You simply ask for it when you go to the "Comune".
It's an "Estratto di Nascita, modello Convenzione di Parigi del 27 Settembre 1956".
    That's what I asked for, that's what I got! ;-)
Once you get NOA2, wait for your petition to be shipped (you will receive another USCIS status update). Once it's been shipped, wait 2 weeks, and then call either NVC or DoS (I called DoS and only had to wait on hold 3 minutes, you can find the numbers all over the place on VJ), and ask for your NPL case number.
Once you have that, you can track it on the CEAC website (read about it in other threads). It'll have three updates, first "At NVC", second "In Transit" (which means your petition has been shipped to the Consulate in Naples), third "Ready" which means your file is in Naples.
    I'm at this stage now.
    Best of luck!

    Ok,
Just want to repost this here as some may find this useful knowledge.
    EAC 99 001 50001

EAC represents the office location where initially received into the electronic system. In the example, EAC indicates St. Albans. Cases that are received at another Service Center but processed at the NSC will generally carry the originating office number.
EAC = St. Albans, Vermont or Vermont Service Center

SRC= Dallas, Texas or Texas Service Center

WAC= Laguna Niguel, California or California Service Center

99 represents the fiscal year in which the case was received.

001 represents the computer workday in the fiscal year on which the fee was taken. Generally 001 is October 1st, the first working day of the fiscal year. 265 generally is a computer work day in September. This is NOT truly a julian date because no “computer work day” exists if the center does not receipt cases on any particular date, e.g. most Saturday’s, all Sunday’s and holidays.

50001 represents the particular case number. In this case, it is the first case received in CLAIMS3 LAN on that particular workday.

Since the recent changes with the I-94 becoming automatic, some slight changes to the guides may help. The AOS from K-1 guide states to provide a front and back copy of your I-94, which has confused some folks since they did not receive an I-94 in their passports.
    6. Copy of the non US Citizen Spouses valid I-94 (front and back copies) <-- Could be worded something like, "Printout of I-94 information from CBP I-94 Retrieval website, found here: https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/request.html"
A similar change could be made to the SSN guide for a K-1 that currently states > "3. your valid I-94"
Also, the first 2 questions on the FAQ about entering the US with the K-1/K-2 needs to also be changed to reflect the fact that the I-94 is now automated and no paper I-94 will be given out.
Edited to Add > Can you please add onto the AOS from K-1 guide, in a FAQ or someplace/anywhere that tells people that if they are changing their name when they get married, then to YES, use their new married name on all the AOS forms? This gets asked about constantly. If people would simply search they would find the answer over and over again from how many times it is asked and answered around here. But as we all know, people tend to ask instead of research so it might be helpful to have that info in the K-1 AOS guide so they can see it first, or just be pointed to the guide.

    (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Aisha))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))),
This is one of the toughest, most difficult things you will ever do in your life. Immigration is a challenge for both people - the husband and the wife who are separated and missing each other and wondering when they will ever have a chance for a normal life together. It is so easy to get discouraged and depressed, especially when things seem to be going wrong. The one light to hold on to is the one at the end of this hard journey - the joy you and your husband will feel when you are finally together again. Choosing to leave this journey means that you also end all hope for this joy. Instead, focus on the love that you share and the knowledge that even if you have to wait for each other you are both worth the wait - you love him and he loves you - and nothing will ever be able to stop that love. You may have to find a different way to be together for a time if the US immigration journey continues to be such a harsh challenge, and perhaps if the two of you are able to find a safe, third country in which to live, you will be able to gather the evidence that your marriage is real, your love is real, so that if you have to apply again to immigrate to the US, they will not be able to find any reason to say no.
So, please remember, no matter how dark and hopeless things appear right now, there is always hope. Hang on to that. Hang on to your love and believe in all your heart that nothing will keep you apart; it may take a bit of time, but you will prevail. You will succeed. You are strong enough to do this.
Good luck to you both and I will definitely keep you in my prayers.

Well, if it is being determined that you are not an Interview Waiver and are having an interview, most commonly it seems to take between 2-4 months to get an interview after mailing off the AOS application.
If they determine you are a potential Interview Waiver, your case usually sits at the NBC for 8-12 months until your status changes to "Card Production" and you receive the GC in the mail. However, since it is just a POTENTIAL Interview Waiver, they might still request an interview even after all the waiting (if that happened to me, I would be really bitter!).
If you do get an interview, your online case status should change to "Testing and Interview", and you will get a notification in the mail.

Ok Guys, I have said this before and I will say it again. The case processing according to the record that has been made available by members is like this:
    1. Approved Expedites
    2. August 6th Transfers
    3. August 8th Transfers
    4. August 9th Transfers
Now if you want to see where you stand on your adjudication for NOA2, check your dates. You can update your transfer dates in this thread for June Filers or you can post it to your comments in timeline for everyone to follow. Don't be selfish cause this is for YOU also to check so please update. Do not change your processing center if you were transferred.
Furthermore, like I have tried to explain before, if background checks are needed by DHS from other agencies, it will be a longer wait for the adjudication. Also, agents pick up files in bulks. Some are faster than others. The faster ones work on more case load and the decisions are quicker than the slower ones and also the newer ones. So, be patient and let the adjudicators, the decision makers, do their work and keep your fingers crossed. I think the Comprehensive immigration reform is coming. The speed at which the processes are moving shows that either new people have been hired to do the work or they have been advised to move fast to hand the case and work load after the CIR passes. So, good luck to all
And, once again, be patient and update your timeline.
