AOS touched again, still no change on the status wording tho, only the date
CSC is toying with me a little but I'm not complaining!
-
well my AOS was touched today...about time too! and then it'll turn out to be an RFE...
guess we'll find out in a few...
Action from CSC ?seems more like a myth now a days

I read on uscis.gov that the EAD should be renewed 6 months before the original one expires...since the original EAD has to be attached to the renewal app, how are you gonna prove that you are employment authorized while the renewal is being processed? will a copy of the card be sufficient? just wondering...thanks!
ok nevermind, the actual instructions on the form I-765 for renewal says app should be filed at least 100 days before the current card expires and only a copy of the front and back of the last EAD is needed, not the original...i wonder why the info has not been updated in this page:
http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/howdoi/ead.htm
anyhow, sorry for posting too soon without doing thorough research...hope this helps someone

Still no news on AOS tho but now i can be patient

hi all,
i'm posting this for a friend...her maiden name was misspelled on her 2-yr greencard and she wants to know how long it will take to get a replacement one and if she should file the I-90 right away or wait until she gets her driver's license and a job...In case she has to get it corrected right away, what proof can she present to a prospective employer that will show she is work authorized while her greencard is being corrected?
thanks much!

if you have lots of spare time and can stand being on hold for a bit you should call again and actually talk to someone...who knows, something might actually be done?
the phone rep i spoke to last week definitely told me i need to wait out 60 days from sept 5 (when it was received at CSC) before i called again about AOS, and 90 days for EAD...if i dont get my EAD in the meantime im definitely calling back by nov 5th
Really? I merely listend to the recording yesterday where they told me the same information that's on my online account, then the stuff about the 180 days, and then they said something like "this is the most recent information about your case. Our phone agents will not be able to give you any more/other information than what you heard here before the projected processing time is up".......that's when I hung upBUt if you think I might get some more answers, I guess I'll give it another try
Thanks,
CW

oopsies i meant 90 days for EAD, 60 for AOS
anyhow, FINALLY i've got something to report -- my EAD got touched today!
you can actually call now instead of waiting the full 180 days -- i called them last week and i was told to wait out the 60 days from the last paper notice, not 180 (for AOS -- for the EAD it IS 180)i hope they'll be able to do something for you, definitely ask for someone higher up if the phone rep tells you to wait some more...you've waited long enough if it's been 6 months
anyhow, goodluck! you'll most likely be on hold for at least 15 mins, just be patient
Unfortunately, here's what happens if/when you call them then. They will say, "gee, you're right. We'll look into it. Call us back if you haven't heard back from us in 60 days." If you call them back before 60 days is up, they'll say, "sorry, 60 days isn't up yet. We're still looking into it."
Welcome to the infinite frustration that is the USCIS.
Oh please don't destroy all my newfound hope
I really thought that they would be able to tell me something after the 180 days ?
I mean, EVERYBODY else on the CSC lists is getting approved after just a short while (except for Chocolaterie, but her case was transfered back from the CSC to another center, so I guess that doesn't really count for CSCs anymore). But look at the lists.....I am the only one who filed this early (March) and hasn't heard ANYTHING. Surely they should be able to say/do something after 6 months if everyone else gets approved within 2 weeks-3 months....??
I am really getting fed up with this whole process.....

wish i could say the same for me, but it's early in the day/week yet
Please CSC, i think i deserve a touch at least...
Anyhow, goodluck to us all!
I'm with you on that one drpepper1109, I really want to hear something about my AOS case this week, just to put my mind at ease that they actually haven't forgotten about me, or worse yet lost my case. I did however get touched today (a sunday of all things) on my EAD, which is very encouraging, 2 touches in 3 days- fingers crossed that's a good sign!! Here's hoping for a busy week of touches and approvals from CSC!!Katie

Khan,
I've also been getting depressed about my CSC transfer not going fast enough like the others, but lately i've been trying to look at the bright side (and sometimes it helps)...i remember the happiness when the visa was issued, then i got here and we got married and lived happily ever after (that is, until CSC decided not to touch our case for a month)...anyhow, i remember being so happy and thinking i couldnt ask for more...so just think about how far you've come in this journey until now...he's here and you're together and that's what really matters, the rest will fall into place
i hope you feel better now, even just a little bit
i'm hanging in there with you, just a little bit more and everything will be alright
This process is getting very depressing. There is no update on my husband's case since Sept 20th. The problem is he is a foreign medical graduate and this is the time when they apply for residency here in the United States to get a license to practice medicine. Eventhough, he doesn't have a GC or an EAD we still gammbled and applied for over 200 positions which cost us arround $3500. Yesterday, he got an interview call but the first thing they asked was 'fax us a copy of your GC'. His career is at a risk, what should we do? Its hard for foreign graduats to get into a good residency program and once he losses this oppurtunity I don't know if it will even happen to us again. There is another thing just happend two hours ago. My huband always drove a stick shift car back home. He has a habbit of pulling up my car's hand brake at the end of the ride eventhough he is sitting on the passenger side. I'm not used to it so sometimes I forget to put is back when I drive. I didn't realize it when I was driving to work this morning unti I smelled the smoke coming out of my car's wheels. Then I saw the emergency brake light flashing and I put the brake back on its place. As soon as I did that my cars brakes failed to work and I couldn't slow down or stop it. I panicked and for a split second I thought I am going to smash my car in the boundry wall. Fortunately, I was near an exit and I went out of the highway I applied the hand brake again and rubbed the wheels against the curb which helped. It was horrifying, I'm still crying. I hate this immigration process. I'm tired and I was to get out of it.

I'm sorery to hear this gsmclean...i dont know if it will help but if you are close to the local USCIS office, you could get an Infopass appointment...anyhow, i think that's what i would do if i were in your situation, the Cincinnati office is less than an hour away and that way i can vent some of my frustrations a little on a real person...the call center reps are really useless, and they just aggravate you more
goodluck!
oh and btw, still no action for me...now i'm really afraid my case has been misplaced, since they have royally f*cked up yours up, i wont be surprised if they lost mine
wheee...happy thoughts (
to myself)
Here's what they asked for:- Tax transcript for 2005 tax year
- Copy of W2 from 2005
- Employment letter from current employer
- Bank letter
- Bank statements
- Proof of citizenship of sponsor
ALL of these things were provided in the original submission. If this wasn't so important, and it was just another government agency I was dealing with, I'd write a REALLY nasty letter to accompany my response. What kind of IDIOTS do they have working there???????
Oh, and the guy on the misinformation line was of absolutely no help - he basically said, "the agent who is handling the case probably just misplaced the file, or didn't bother to read the previous agent's notes, so they are asking for the information again." How reassuring.
-
It's feeling like your case got sucked into a black hole whereas other people who filed after you already got a decision or at least a touch...after all, we were transferred to CSC to "expedite processing", at least that's what my NOA letter said...so i think when your case is going slow compared to others who were transferred you can whine in this thread from time to time
that's just my humble opinion
-
I guess I'm in second place in the no action tally...nothing since sept 8th
Still nothing here since september 15
Still nothing here since August 16
-
i try to limit myself to 2 checks per day, once after lunch and then again before bed, just in case
oh well...now we wait some more
I hate to check uscis web site but I can't help it:(

Hi, found this on the SSA website (there are a number of links to this same question/answer but i think this is the one most clearly worded, distinguishing who can have the "unrestricted" card) Hope this helps, i pasted the link at the bottom :-)
Question
What types of Social Security cards does SSA issue?
Answer
We issue three types of Social Security cards depending on an individual's citizen or noncitizen status and whether or not a noncitizen is authorized by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to work in the United States. They include:
1. The first type of card shows the individual's name and Social Security number only. This is the card most people have and reflects the fact that the holder can work in the U.S. without restriction. We issue this card to:
U.S. citizens; or
Noncitizens lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence and noncitizens with DHS permission to work permanently in the United States (e.g., refugees and asylees).
2. The second type of card bears, in addition to the individual's name and Social Security number, the legend: "NOT VALID FOR EMPLOYMENT." We issue this card to lawful noncitizens who do not have DHS permission to work, but are required by law to provide a Social Security number to get general assistance benefits that they already have qualified for.
3. The third type of card bears, in addition to the individual's name and Social Security number, the legend” "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION." We issue this card to people with DHS permission to work temporarily in the United States.

I havent reached this point yet in the process (i'm still waiting for my EAD or GC whichever comes first but i have done some research on getting that DHS wording off the SS card because my husband's credit union wouldn't add me to his accounts because of it...anyhow, i hope this helps
