I speak only English and my husband speaks English and Spanish. Our baby is 15 months old. It was/is important to me that my husband teaches him how to speak spanish. Most of his family only speaks spanish so i wanted our baby to be able to talk to his grandmother as well as other family members. My husband speaks both english and spanish to our son and he understands both. He even learned to say Hola before he said Hi. Babies learn so fast that it is very easy for them to pick up on both languages if they are used to hearing both. Your mothers concern is probably just wanting to be included and being able to communicate with her grandchild.

And FYI.....they do have to pay the same fees that we are paying. Again you shouldnt blame children who were brought here by there parents illegally. My daughter's boyfriend came to the United States when he was 3 months old by his parents. He grew up in the united states, has gone to school here, and lived here all his life. He is now in his first year in college. He is going through the same process that everyone else is and he has had to pay all the same fees. I'm not saying that I agree or disagree with Obama but in this case at least he is giving these kids who only know america as there way of life a chance to go to school and be productive citizens.

These kids will continue their education and hopefully have a better life than their parents. Isn't that the reason people have been coming to our shores for centuries?

And, for the record, you are asking to bring someone into a country in which they have no "right" to live in. There are nutjobs out there, with ill intent, who managed to get here through the faster and simpler process. Yes, please, for the love of God, spend a little time and make sure those nutjobs stay the hell out. You should spend your time constructively. Read up on the next steps. Prepare for her arrival. This first step is just the beginning. The hard part comes when she gets here. Do you know what the next steps are? Do you know what documents she needs to ensure a smooth transition during the next phase? Because you need to know now.... not when she gets here. Because then it will be too late and her opportunity will have passed.
The nice thing about time is that it passes. Use it wisely.

I wasnt referring to the life you will have once your loved one is here. When i said plan i meant plan for the next step in your process. There are a lot of documents that you need to get together and proof that you will eventually need for your interview. Those are the things that help pass the time and keep your mind busy while you wait. I think we all understand your frustration. I just think that blaming anyone for it is useless. It is a process and it takes time. I wish you luck in your journey. From my experience(and i am not through with this process we have an interview date scheduled next month) the best thing to do is to research, read, ask questions, and just be prepared so that when your time comes you will feel confident going into your interview and your long wait for your love one will be worth all of the work and effort you put into it. Good Luck to you and everyone!

I agree with everyone else, your time is best spent getting ready for the next step of this process. The wait times are always just an estimate. Sometimes it says they are processing in 5 months and it only takes 30 days and then other times it says 5 month and it takes much longer. Truth is there is a lot about this process that we can't control but while you are waiting you could be getting all of the things done that you CAN control. I spent 3 months at NVC because I didnt have everything ready when they asked for it. I could have had case completed in a month if I had been ready. As far as what you are told on the phone they have a script that they read and it is ALWAYS worst case scenerio. Just keep calling and checking and staying on top of your case......and be prepared to wait. It is what it is.

i guess we can agree to disagree. I never said the parents shouldnt have consequences for their actions but i dont think it's right to take a person who has lived basically their entire life into adult hood in the United States and deport them to a country they most likely dont ever remember being in and surrounded by no one they know. Again, we can just agree to disagree, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Really??? Well, I guess the difference is his parents brought him here (yes illegally) with the hopes of a better future for their family, not to commit crimes. His parents never put other peoples lives in danger or held anyone up hoping for a handout. They came here to WORK and support their family not live on a free ride. I'm not saying that people who cross the border illegally deserve "special treatment" but to punish their children who had no choice is not right they should be given a chance. As far as your case if your father committed a crime and your family payed the price i'm sorry for your loss but even through your loss you werent threatened with being sent to a foreign country where you had no one and it didnt stop you from being able to go to school or live out your dreams.

But those 32 year-olds had to be in the country since they were children... That's the point... The 32-year-old adult is not whom they are giving the amnesty; but the child (who entered the country illegally because of his/her parents) who is now 32!

I can tell some people still did not bother to read the information from the site linked above in this thread. Yes, they must be under the age of 31, and brought to the US by their parents through no fault of their own. It is not for minor children. It is for those that were brought here AS children to get a work permit. They also have to be in school or a graduate or veteran with no criminal background. A lot of the people eligible and applying for Deferred Action were brought to the US at a very young age, grew up here and have never known any other country as home.
They are not being 'let in' because they have already been here, growing up and living their lives here in the US. They are not being granted a green card, and they most certainly do pay the fees to file for their EAD. http://www.dhs.gov/deferred-action-childhood-arrivals#5
The waiting times at VSC and CSC fluctuate all the time and people were already waiting 5+ months for I-129F petition approvals before Deferred Action ever came into existance.
As for the USCIS lying: that is why the USCIS hotline is known as the misinformation hotline. They are not outright lying on purpose. The people that answer the phone at tier 1 level are not immigration workers and only know what is on their scripts and the screens they are able to see. They are hired to answer the phones. They hand out misinformation on a daily basis.
