I called last week and after listening to the person read the website back to me, I asked for Tier 2. Had to ask twice, she kept trying to put me off. She gave me 2 choices, wait on infinite hold (I didn't have unlimited time to wait), or leave a message for a Tier 2 officer. I did the latter. Recorded message said they would return my call within 2-3 business days. That was on December 4th. It's now December 10th. Nobody called back.
Just like they didn't call or email back when I inquired back in August. They said they emailed Sept. 4th but I never received the email, and I'd been checking my spam filter.
I guess when I have time to rot on hold I'll try again.

I'm not a lawyer and I don't play one on TV but my spider-sense tells me that if you try to re-enter the US on an expired Green Card, you're going to have problems. Border patrol/whomever doesn't "know" you have an application pending, all they will see is an expired Green Card.
If it was me, I'd make sure to be IN the USA before it expires.

I've always had to go to the DMV in person (in GA) to renew my license as they need to see my GC. EVERY time, they've asked me if I wanted to register to vote. EVERY time I've said, "I'm not a US Citizen, I'm not eligible to vote."
Makes me wonder just how many non-citizens do register... whether accidentally or otherwise. What's scary is, if it goes through... no checks and balances for that?!
Sounds to me like you did the right thing - DMV workers shouldn't even offer the option to register for non-citizens. Doesn't absolve us of personal responsibility - but you took the proper steps to correct the *mistake* once it was discovered, so hopefully that will show that your intention wasn't bad.

Lying would have been worse. Way worse. Consider this a "speed bump". You did the right thing to correct the mistake, surely somebody will see that for what it's worth.
I'm sure you can't be the first (nor the last) to have had such an error.

It's not going to make anything go faster. I made a phone inquiry after 30 days. Nobody called/contacted me back. During the 15 days in which they were supposed to get back to me, the blurb on the website status changed from 30 days to 90. 90 haven't passed yet so there isn't much point, IMO.

We_Destiny - I was posting when you posted - I see you changed your tracker to red - that's only for when you're sworn in, so I didn't change it in my format "fix".

If you have a 10 year unconditional green card, you can apply for citizenship any time after 5 years. But you should apply for naturalization 6+ months from expiration of the GC if you want to become a citizen without having to renew the GC.

Thanks to this forum, hopefully I'll save my son (now 18) problems if/when he wants to apply for citizenship. He was a minor when we came here - he got a GC based on my (now ex-) husband's employer sponsoring us all. His GC expires in 2014, he can decide if he wants to renew or become a citizen - but when I got his selective service registration letter recently - I knew it was best to have him fill it out and send it in. He filled it out and signed it today.

I'd call USCIS first, but I'd be inclined to go.
Better to go a second time and find it unnecessary, than to not go and risk having your application considered abandoned. Even if that's a mistake, it will take forever to unravel the mistake, I think.
Call them though - see what's up. That's where I would start.
