  2. You read wrong. You can't have two joint sponsors for one applicant.

Any sponsor, whether it's the primary sponsor or a joint sponsor, can have qualified household members submit an I-864A to combine income with them and help them qualify. A qualified household member must either live in the same household and be related to the sponsor as spouse, adult child, parent, or sibling, or they must be a dependent claimed on the sponsor's income tax return.

A maximum of two joint sponsors are allowed only if there is more than one immigrant being sponsored, in which case the joint sponsors can split the immigrants between them. For example, if the immigrants are a spouse and child then one joint sponsor can sponsor the spouse and the other joint sponsor can sponsor the child. When there is only one immigrant then there can be only one joint sponsor. However, as I described above, a joint sponsor can have qualified household members combine income with them.

When can there be a Joint Sponsor?

A joint sponsor may submit an Affidavit of Support to sponsor all or some of the family members if the primary sponsor does not meet the income requirements. A maximum of two joint sponsors per petition can be used. Each joint sponsor is only responsible for the applicant(s) listed on that joint sponsor’s Affidavit of Support. Important note: If a joint sponsor is used, the petitioning sponsor must submit Form I-864, not Form I-864EZ
