Hi all,

I'm looking for someone to give me a definitive answer to my question -- which has probably been asked before but I *really* need it clarified.

Last time I went to the UK I wasn't a citizen yet, so used my UK passport. This time, I will be going as a US citizen with a US passport -- both passports are valid, obviously. I hear people say "enter on this or that passport" etc., but what does it mean exactly? If I wanted to use my UK passport to enter, does it mean showing my US passport here at the airport, then once I land, joining the UK citizen line and showing THAT passport? Is that even allowed? I will be traveling with my 7 year-old USC, so I just don't know what I should be doing! Does it make life easier for us to just stick with the US passport and kiss faster entrance lines goodbye?! Would love to hear from anyone who has 'been there, done that…!'

I had my ceremony last week and my status still hadn't changed...And I don't care any more!!!

Ilarrotta, don't worry! Try to remember that you WILL pass this last formality and try to go in as relaxed as you can! You'll be just fine! Make sure you have your passport and Greencard for sure! Try to bring a smile too...

My Oath Ceremony is tommorow at noon and I can hardly believe it! I'm bummed though that my daughter won't be at the ceremony but I'll figure out a way to celebrate with her. I kind of want to take her on a trip to the Statue of Liberty to commemerate the occasion!

The only two things they asked me for last week were passport and Greencard. They process passports really quickly, so yours may be back in time!

I also want to chime in on this just to say that for the most part, these "interviews" are merely a formality, in my opinion. think about it, USCIS is not asking for anything more at this point -- they have all the information they need in our files and they have reviewed our applications. They know already before we walk in the door that we are basically approved for the most part, unless we've done something horribly wrong between Removal and N-400. Anyway, they last for probably 15 minutes or so and the majority of that time is spent simply verifying information on your application form. There will be a lot of "yes" or "no!" For me, it was spent sitting and watching the interviewer check things off with a red pen! They scan the barcode on everything and at this point, you'd be extremely, extremely unlucky if they lost anything. Make sure you read the document list and follow it exactly -- what I've learned with USCIS is that when you follow their 'rules' things usually go quite smoothly.

About the passport photos. The only reason I didn't bother was because the letter specifically says that it's not a requirement. In my heart, I don't believe that they will approve, disapprove or hold up because of two photos!

I think I'm right on the date. My interview is on 10/15 and it says, "The registration deadline to vote at the next election is 21 days prior to election day" I think I'm good if I register the same day. Correct me if I'm wrong...

If you get to do a same day Oath then it looks like you will make it!!! Does your office do that?

It came from the Superintendent of Elections and it says Official Election mail. I've never claimed to be a US citizen either but when they asked I thought they meant in the future so I said yes, I'd like to be registered to vote. Maybe I misunderstood.

Hmm. Maybe you registered by accident then? If so, I'm not sure what you do about that, if anything at this point. I would ask the whole board here and see what advice you get. There are lots of knowledgable folks here!

I think i may go ahead and do what you did and not take any extras with me and hope that the ones they already have of me are fine... (mind you, when i say fine, my passport photos always look like I have had a bad hair day and look grumpy.. They never seem to show a person in a good light, so to speak.. )

My photos were terrible! And even worse, the Biometrics one wasn't great either and that's the one they will use on the Naturalization Certificate!!!

Yes, that's right! That's what they do after the Oath Ceremony here in Boston. I would look into that if I were you and then also find out when the last registration date is so that you don't miss it.

I'm not sure but the funny thing is that I'm already registered to vote. At least that's what I think since I got a registration acknowledgement card in the mail. I redid my state Id last month and they asked me if I wanted to register to vote and I said yes. Then I got the card so I'm hoping it means I can vote.

I don't think you should be registered already since you are not a Citizen and only Citizens are allowed to vote. Someone with more knowledge here will probably chime in. I know that my interviewer asked me if I had ever claimed to be a U.S citizen because of course, that's a no-no. Usually, after the Oath Ceremony there are a ton of people outside signing new citizens up to vote and get passports -- at least that's how it was at the ceremony I attended a few years ago...

I really wanna vote so I'll be sure to bring it all. Lol

Trust me, they have them! The file is a mile thick with papers!!! You're right to be on the safe side though!

My letter only says to bring my passport and green card.

That's interesting! Mine said at the very top to bring originals AND a photocopy of the documents like marriage certificate, child's birth certificate, tax records, etc...Obviously I didn't need them anyway!

I bought the originals and copies of everything, but didn't bother bringing the two passport photos. The interviewer asked only for my passport and Green Card!!! He didn't bother with anything else, so I happily took my folder back home with me! I did notice that one of the papers in my file had a baggie stapled to it with the passport photos I had originally sent in it, so I don't understand why they even bother asking for more...

Yesterday I had my Naturalization interview in Boston and thought that maybe someone would like to read about the experience! I am a June filer. My appointment was at 2pm in the JFK building in Boston. I arrived very early, sat outside for a while before going in. I got to the first room and was surprised to see almost no-one there! The guy at reception allowed me to check in at 1.15pm, before sending me to the next room to wait. There, they took my interview Notice and told me to have a seat. There were only THREE others waiting among a sea of empty chairs!!! One interviewer came out and took one of the other applicants and I was secretly glad he didn't call on me because he looked so grumpy! Once that applicant came back out (with a smile on her face!) she told me that the same (grumpy looking) interviewer had actually been extremely nice to her!!! At about 2.20 I was called and followed the interviewer Palmer into the office. There were lots of open 'cubicles' and I was asked to put down my things before raising my right hand and swearing to tell the truth. The interview space is not at all private and if there is anyone else being interviewed beside you at the same time, you will likely hear their questions and responses! I found it strange to be able to actually see and hear another person's interview!

Palmer basically went through my application form with me, checking things off as I verified them. Right at the beginning, he gave me something to verify and sign -- information for my oath ceremony. He couldn't find his pen and I jokingly told him he had way too much stuff on his desk -- he smiled and agreed. Out of the blue and without missing a beat, he began asking me my "questions." He took my by surprise because one moment he was talking about my application form and then the next he said, "and do you know when the Declaration of Independence was adopted?" As quick as he asked it, I answered correctly and he went on with the next question. The questions are already printed on the paperwork in your file, so they already know what they are going to ask you before the interview. My other questions were:

What is the name of one of the longest rivers in the U.S?

Who is the Speaker of the House right now?

What are the first ten amendments to the Constitution?

Who lived here before the Europeans came?

I then had to write the phrase, "Lincoln was President during the Civil War" I got nervous and spelled 'civil' wrong, but the corrected it -- when I told Palmer, he simply smiled and shook his head, saying "it doesn't matter!" After that, he basically congratulated me and said he was approving my application -- and as he spoke he stamped a big red "Approved" in a box on my paper work! It was good to see!!! I told him, "Phew, that was painless!" and he laughed. He told me to go back out and wait and that someone would bring me some paperwork. I thanked him, told him to have a great weekend and left!

I waited in the waiting room for maybe five or ten minutes and Palmer came back out with a blue sheet of paper for me. I was almost too afraid to look at it, so i waited until he was gone then scanned it for the date. I have dreamed of becoming a Citizen so that i can vote in this upcoming election and I'd have to register by October 17th in this State. Imagine my surprise when I saw the Oath date was September 20th -- less than a week away!!! Yippee! I was ECSTATIC and I waited until I got outside before I literally squealed out loud! So all in all, the N-400 process took me about 3.5 months to complete! Phew, it's almost over!

I know this was long but hopefully it helped someone who may have an upcoming interview...or anyone who is bored!!!
