  1. @ Gegel - it says pretty clearly that he can pretend to be filing for her behind her back.

I would make an infopass or call USCIS and talk to a Tier2, I am sure they can mark your file somehow. I would also write a long email to the embassy of India, to make sure they know you are no longer supporting his application - the embassy can deny him the visa and it is a step he cannot skip.

  2. Congratulation to everyone.

I moved and changed my address, and so I called and talked to a Tier2, since neither the AR form, nor the first line could help me out. He told me my file is still at NBC, so I guess I am among the lucky ones that got to wait. I am hoping that by Christmas I will have my GC, tho you never know with immigration.

Anyone else in the same boat with me?

  3. Not really. I think that when you take bad decisions, you should expect to get burned. Not having a career because a man said so doesnt entitle you to a lifetime of paychecks for doing nothing. Honestly, I think alimony is degrading to women, it basically says we are incapable of managing life all by ourselves. Since like you said, we are Romanian, I will tell you a Romanian-American story about my neighbour's daughter who won the lottery visa and came to the US and washed floors and put herself through nursing school, then met a guy and got married. 10 years later, they are divorce, and she makes enough money to support herself, her kids, and her parents whom she petitioned. The ex doesnt pay child support regularly, and that is a problem, but other than that, hats off to her.

No human, man or woman, should be incapable of supporting him/herself and should never ever build their lives around someone else's career.

  4. Personally, I think alimony is, most of the time, grotesque. It started as something fair ("Divorce law in the U.S. was based on English Common Law, which developed at a time when a female gave up her personal property rights on marriage (see Coverture). Upon separation from marriage, the husband retained the right to the wife's property, but, in exchange, had an ongoing responsibility to support the wife after dissolution of the marriage"), and evolved into a sense of entitlement.

Even if you did not give him the money, because you were a supporting wife, creating a healthy environment at home for him and the kids you deserve half. You took care of him all this years ans created a legacy for him for his future by giving him kids. He can't minimize your role because it is equally important.

Or, because he is financially stable, he could get custody of the kids, and she has to pay him child support.

  5. I just called. My file is still at Missouri. I was told they are still processing my files. It may take an additional 3 months for my file to be transferred to NYC. Then I have to wait another month for NYC to schedule an interview. Is it normal to have an interview after such a long wait? I filed AOS in February, and got biometrics done on 3/1, received my EAD card on 4/18.

I am in the same boat, no word from my AOS since I filed, I dont even know if my file is in Missouri or at a local office.

  6. Really? Can you please correct me on this? I thought that marrying on a tourist with intent to stay was visa fraud and resulted in a lifetime ban. I guess marrying on a tourist visa and then returning your home country is acceptable.

It happens every day and no one is getting banned for it. I know people who came in the US later than I on a B1 visa, married, adjusted, and already have a green card in their pocket, meanwhile, i did it the right way and still waiting for mine.
