  1. Being "more qualified" academically is not and should not be the only criterion on which a university admits students. Most -- not all -- universities are looking for a balanced student body, while maintaining a baseline of academic achievement below which admission usually will not occur. It benefits a university to have a multiplicity of backgrounds, so that students and faculty have their viewpoints challenged. I went to one of the best universities there is, and believe me, not everyone was the straight-A, perfect SAT scorer that is assumed to be the typical student there. I know I benefitted from being in the classroom with students of all races and ethnicities, from all parts of the country (and world), and from across the economic spectrum. Cross-pollination of ideas from the arts and sciences, between artists and athletes and engineers and writers, was (and remains) actively encouraged there. The university remains devoted to making sure that admission is not limited to kids who do well on tests. There's a good deal of intuition and talent-spotting that goes into the mix.

Admission is one hurdle; the true test is achievement at the university. If a kid with lower scores can excel at a top-tier university, then all of this is distracting BS.

Disagree. Mind and mind alone should be the only criterion for admission.

The smarter you are, the easier it should be for you to see multiple points of view. A white student with a superior IQ can argue a problem from a variety of points of view, whereas a minority student who is less intelligent has only one point of view- his.

Universities are places for studying, not the UN.

  2. To the OP - I would go for the marriage visa, there are more advantages than the K1.

Your friend would only have to fill in a set of papers, your fiance would be able to work very soon after entering the US (otherwise, new paperwork for AOS, and a long wait - we have people on here that have applied in August 2012 for a green card through K1/marriage and havent been approved yet), and it is cheaper financially.

  3. whether or not he can get in-state tuition at school (currently, he can't,

Weird. He should, at least through you.

You got me a bit worried, I thought I was establishing residence currently, not just after the GC arrived.

As to "case not found" I was in the same boat before I change my address, a coupe of weeks ago. Ever since then, the case updated in the system. When I talked to the tier2, he told me he could see my case in his system and that all was ok, even though I could not see my numbers before.

  4. so sorry to hear, same thing happened to me, my wife left within a month of getting her GC. I have not filed for divorce yet, the advantage I have is that she went back to Mexico and is not living in the US. I'm in the process of writing a letter to ICE of her abandonment and not fulfilling her permanent residency requirements.

Just move on, it sucks but like everyone says Karma is a B****.

    good luck

Not sure you have a leg to stand on there - as long as you are not divorced and she hasnt been out of the US for more than 6 months, she is free to do as she pleases.

  5. Why are people telling the OP to get married in her country with the k-1 and then travel here to the US? The k-1 is for her to get married in the US, and in the US only. If they have any kind of a wedding ceremony in her country, legally binding or not, it is fraud. The best course of action, if you indeed are confident that you are being scammed, is to report it to the embassy in her home country, to USCIS, DOS, and to the dept of homeland security.

You are wrong, as long as it isn't legally binding, you can have a billion of ceremonies with a billion men and not be a bigamist.

Seems to me the OP is the one with cold feet.

  6. When my husband (fiance at the time) entered they saw his package in his hand, and approached him right away asking if he was coming in on a visa and when he replyed with "yes" They directed him to which line to go smile.png Got him signed in, and he had to wait about 5 minuets before his name was called, and got him checked into the computer, gave him his I-94 and sealed medical forms and sent him on his happy way!

They gave him his medical forms back at the entrance?

  7. But if my sister in law will have wedding invitation, so she can prove that she is going to my wedding plus she will have return ticket is still not enough?

Its not fair that they treat everyone same way, if someone tells truth is still considered as potential immigrant

They should start using machine that detects if someone lie or tells the truth, one question: are you planning to stay illegal in the US and everything would be clear. I hate gov and their rules

Or she could stay here, give birth to the baby who will be an American citizen, then try to immigrate using that as a reason.
