  1. Yes I wouldn't advise coming here and marrying first. That is seem as dishonest and fraud and would leave your case open to all sorts of speculation and suspicion from immigration.

We had our AOS interview just a few weeks ago and one of the things our immigration officer talked about was her frustration the with the stupidity of people who think they can marry first and then tell the government afterwards.

  2. My husband's SSN took exactly 14 days to arrive. When he had been worried about the card and called to find out information, they basically told him to just wait, because they didn't have any more information for him. But it did come eventually.

Remember that it's 10 working days too, that was our delay that we didn't think about.

Hopefully you will get it soon! Good luck!

  3. We never used a lawyer and I was glad we didn't. Everything is so easy and self explanatory and I never felt the need to pay money for someone else to do the forms that took all of 10 minutes to fill out.

When I went to my interview a few days ago, we actually talked quite a bit to the officer who interviewed us. My husband and I brought up how it seemed like the waiting room was FULL of lawyers. It seemed as if everyone there but us had them. She agreed and told us she felt like a lawyer was a waste of time and money. She said herself and no one she worked with ever really felt like the presence of a lawyer really changed anything. She said in fact it usually made her think, "Why are you trying so hard? What's really going on here? The forms are simple, so why is this necessary?"

I just thought it was interesting to hear, coming from an actual immigration officer.

So I guess there's that to take into consideration.

  4. I think they'd send you an RFE if they wanted the I-864, before they actually denied you. So when and if they do that, then just send it in.

I will say though that I was not aware I myself as the petitioner had to fill out an I-864 despite the fact that I didn't have any money and my aunt was going to be the only sponsor. They never gave me an RFE for that.

But when I got to the interview, completely unaware that I was missing a form, they told me then that they needed an Affidavit of Support from me and asked if I had it with me. So at least that lets us know you have a chance to give them extra forms at the interview if they were not in your initial packet.

In my case, I obviously didn't have the form on me. So they actually handed me the form at the interview and let me fill it out there and the officer acted as my notary, and we were approved that day.

So basically, I wouldn't worry. Wait to see if you get an RFE. If you don't, just bring along the form to your interview. And remember that the petitioner must have one, as well as anyone else who may be sponsoring you or your spouse.

    Good luck!

  5. The civil surgeons will try and tell you that you need to do a full medical, just to try and get money out of you. You do not need the full medical. If they refuse to do just the supplement, try another civil surgeon.

I called mine twice to make sure they would do just the supplement and they said it was fine. Then once I got down there, the nurse tried to hassle my husband into doing the whole exam anyway. Just be firm about it.

Once you get there, show them your DS-3025 and any other vaccination records or booklets you may have with you. From that, they will transfer the info from one sheet to another themselves. You just have to fill out some information about yourself and give a signature. And that's it! Should take about 15 minutes, tops. They'll give it to you in a sealed envelope, and you just make sure you don't open it.

    Good luck!!!

  6. Well, we just sent in out DS-3025 with our initial AOS package and we didn't get an RFE. We had done in the medical in Scotland just 2 months before we sent in our AOS package.

But we did get an I-693 supplement (not the full medical done) and took that along to our interview. And when we got there, our officer did specifically ask for our supplement, as well as the DS-3025 original.

So for peace of mind, I would definitely just send in the DS-3025 for now and get that out of the way. They shouldn't RFE you, but if they do, then you can just get the supplement done. It's quick and easy.

  7. Upon discovering an error in the GC, we returned it to the ins. After five long months, the card was finally returned with the proper correction. It wasn't a difficult error as they simply got the sex wrong on the card. I think we must qualify in the Genius Book of Records as having been jerked around the longest by the government. :hehe:

5 months!? That's CRAZY. I certainly hope that isn't a standard wait for GC corrections. With how disorganized USCIS is, I am surprised people get correct cards at all!
