I'm just getting back into this thread, but deciding on where to live and the reasons why is hardly shallow....
If that's not the case, move to Guam. Now. Report back and tell us how it is.

But a foreign female, unhappy with the economic opportunities in her own country, will be less choosy where she lives in the US, as long as she gets there. So perhaps it is a trait we (US women) possess more than women from abroad.

    I do!
I'm also naked 24/7, jumping my hubby every few hours.... and the most underwear i have ever worn is a thong because it's proof that I love my husband who has been known to compare me to inanimate objects, make frat boy comments about me and my countrymen and make mysogenistic remarks about other women.
On top of that he moved me from one frozen tundra to another, validates himself by the way I look and snickers that there are many more women where I come from to add to his shopping cart...behind my back with others of his ilk on the WWW broadcast to God knows how many.
    He is bald too...YAY!
    I'm soooooooo lucky!

Well the whole point is I didn't grow up in much of a religious setting. My dad is Jewish.
I went to church here and there but it wasn't like I had some type of strict Christian upbringing.
We never said grace before dinner and when my brother and I would go over to my neighbors house (they were Filipino) and when they said grace we were trying are hardest not to burst out laughing.
I'd say if an average American family was a 5 in terms of religious upbringing then we were a 2 or a 3.
As far as strictness, if 5 was average my parents were a 1 or a 2. The house was the neighborhood hangout. It was raided by the police when I was 18 if you want to get an idea of how non-religious the household was....
Just because I say God is deaf, blind, and mute doesn't mean I am putting out some sort of inner fire burning inside of me due to my fundamental Christian upbringing (your words).
God = deaf (logically you have to agree, you can talk His ear off and you'll never get a response)
God = mute (DUH!!! Nobody has heard an audible sound from the invisible guy upstairs for thousands of years and back then human stupidity was at a thousands year high)

But be careful on that, because back then religious folk were more afraid to go for psychological help too. So some of that could have just been undiagnosed.

Gary - I rarely make serious comments here because most of the time it's just not even worth it. I don't have a problem with most of your comments, but the way you talk about your wife is appalling! Does she know you talk about her like she's a possession? If she's as well educated as you say she is I am sure she would not appreciate some of the stuff you say about her on here. And maybe she is pretty to you, and to some other people, but not everyone has the same idea of beauty as you do. I can tell you she is not my type, but if she was a 10 to me, she'd be a 1 with you by her side.
you can get coke for passover made with sugar AND you can buy stuff like pepsi, mt dew, dr pepper throwback.

When you are living forever, Gary, in your dotage with spittle dribbling down your chin and your a$$ chaffed from diapers, I'll peek through your window and see if your Ukranian hottie is there, lovingly cleaning up after you.
It's my guess we will have long ago heard the clickety-click of her stilletos walking away from your sorry self.

I'm late to this as well.
Dawn, sorry to hear this and think about coming back in a while. I took a six month hiatus when Himself and I separated, and after a while the siren call of VJ was too much to resist... But seriously, much love and happiness to you as you start a new chapter in life. I'm another one who has been lucky enough to stay friends with my ex, and I can't say how much his continuing friendship means to me. If you two want to stay friends, I'm pulling for ya both! And I'll be looking for updates on FB.
Although when he is STILL calling you up over a year later to ask you how you do/cook/find/drive to things, feel free to tell him to do it himself. This is something I'm still learning!

I am sad to say that my visa journey is now over. My husband and I have decided that it is time to go our separate ways. We still have an enormous amount of love for one another and this decision makes us both sad, but as we started out as good friends we will remain that. There are other personal reasons but as some of you know I have never been able to quite get over my homesickness and it has been a huge stumbling block in our life here.
I have made some treasured friends here on VJ, and I am so thankful for that....I have had some fun, fun times here and feel privileged to have shared peoples journeys over the years, seen the wedding pics and seen the babies arrive! We are at times a dysfunctional family here on VJ, but the love and support never goes away.
Although it is a sad time I am sooooo excited about going back home and seeing my children, family and friends, and going back to work...yay!! It's a new chapter to embrace.
I wish you all well in new and continued visa journeys!

You can send the I-751 yourself. There is a check box on the form that allows you to request a waiver of the joint filing requirement because your marriage ended in divorce. You'll need evidence to prove you entered the marriage in good faith, and not simply to get an immigration benefit. The waiver can't be approved until your divorce is final. USCIS will require a copy of the divorce decree. If you don't have the divorce decree by the time your conditional green card is about to expire then go ahead and send the I-751 without the divorce decree. USCIS will eventually send you an RFE for the divorce decree. Hopefully, you'll finalize your divorce and have the decree in hand in time to respond to the RFE.
The fees the lawyer is asking for are outrageous. It's unlikely your case would require more than a few hours of his time. Your success doesn't hinge on having a well qualified attorney. Your success will hinge on how compelling your "good faith marriage" evidence is.

WOW. Actually if I hadn't been thinking beyond I as you put it I would have left years ago...but you know nothing about that as you know nothing about me or my situation.
Why would 'they' give me trouble traveling on VW for a holiday if I have done everything correctly by handing in my greencard and filling in the correct forms (which is why I posting here in the first place)?
As for future people who come into my life who may just die if they didn't get to live in the US...not everybody has a hankering to leave their country and way of life for America you know.
I have read a few times you spouting off about getting citizenship and 'selling' it....not sure what you are going on about there.
As for a projected pissing match between the pres the premier and no longer being able to travel on VW.....oh well guess I'll go on holiday elsewhere 'shrug'
Finally, you may find my "POV narrow-minded and short-sighted." but I'm actually seeing very clearly thank you very much.
Obviously you love it here and America has been good to you otherwise you spout this kind of ####### whenever someone makes a post about leaving....maybe you didn't read my post well enough where I said all my family, friends and work are in the UK, why on earth would I stay here?
I did not marry my husband for an opportunity to live in America or to give anyone else the opportunity to live here off my back....
My thanks to those who actually answered the question I asked, it was very helpful....I am leaving next week so will sort the form out as soon as I can

We're all assuming a lot here, kemosabe. The alleged assailant punched the guy in the face while the man was jogging in pitch darkness. He just came out of nowhere and decide he'd like to punch a guy in the face at night. Without any other witnesses, no one will know exactly what happened, but firing shooting at the guy 8 times seems more like retaliation than act of self defense. And while the jury found him innocent, it would be pretty difficult under the circumstances to find him guilty beyond reasonable doubt with the law that gives citizens permission to be vigilantes on the streets.
Which begs the question why the jogger chose to jog in that area in the middle of the night. The whole story stinks to high heaven.

There are other ways to defend oneself without using lethal force, but I guess for some, it takes a gun to make them feel man enough to fight back.

I hope this doesn't come off harsh, it's not meant that way. But sometimes the tone is lost over the net.
It seems kind of low class to ask invitees to help pay for a party for one's own kid. If you can't afford (or don't wish to pay the whole thing), don't have a fancy party. Have a party at your house and your costs won't be as high. We once went all out with the decorations and party supplies and spent over $100 for one of our daughters, but we haven't done that since. Asking people to help offset the party cost rathaer than bring a gift is something your child would not appreciate. Ask them.

If it's only $5, then the host should pay. If that is not affordable, do something else or have a smaller party. Otherwise all of the other parents will talk about you.

just to clarfify... a crate (or as you refer - a 'cage') is not a place of punishment (or SHOULD NOT BE) nor a place to just lock an animal away for unattentive pet owners for hours on end. a well trained animal can be left alone in a home without fear of it tearing things up or eliminating. they should NEVER be scolded and put into a crate!!!!
a crate SHOULD BE a place of safety and relaxation for the pet, a place where it can go and KNOW that NO ONE (not children, not visitors, no one) is allowed to touch or bother them. that is THEIR SPOT. if you have an open wire one, it should be covered with a blanket/sheet with only the front open to provide them with a closed den-like feel.
the location of the crate... if the crate is kept in the bedroom, the dog is more likely to spend days beside, behind or under a piece of furniture closest to one of us... likewise if crate is kept in familyroom the dog would crawl under bed at night even though there is perfectly wonderful fluffy huge dog bed made up for them on other side of room. they want to be as close to their pack as possible, they want to be in a den-like environment with only one opening to guard as they rest/relax.
in my experience, but this may be different for others, my females seem to stick more closely to their crates whereas males seem to stick more closely to people themselves (i.e. the females will go to the crate if it's in same room while we go about our day whereas males will still choose to lay beside the people or stick to our heels). you almost forget they are there until something happens to make them come tearing out of the crate LOL like someone will get too near me or raise their arm a little too high near me and we realize oh! the dog thought you were going to strike me
love having security dogs... while they are not really 'protection' they are good alarms and their inbred instincts are just so very amazing.
