  1. A little update on our case: My husband called the NVC again today. He got to talk to a supervisor. She said to call back next week and that the should be done reviewing the RFE then. I know a week isn't that much, but I'm pretty irritated with the NVC right now. Especially if it turns out they lost our birth certificate! :bonk: The supervisor said not to send in another birth cert yet, since that could delay our case even more.

I'm wondering if this means they actually will review it within a week or if it will take longer... or maybe there is a slight chance they will do it sooner.any thoughts about this will be appreciated :)

They are also gonna look into the payment issue. The IV bill still shows as paid in the payment portal and in their system. But the money is still in the account. Why is this so hard for them to figure out?!?

Just slightly frustrated right now....

  2. Hmm, as far as I knew, only one officer reviews the package. But since you talked to an operator, it sounds like you might be getting a supervisor review, aka another set of eyes. Hopefully they'll review it, see the birth certificate, and accept the package :)

I really hope so! I'm worried that is gonna take longer than just sending in a new birth certificate though.... but is it too late to do that now, since it's already sent on for review? Don't want to confuse them by sending another one in :)

This is such a bummer, was hoping for a speedy case closed. But I guess you never know what the NVC will throw at you :)

Any ideas on how long should we wait before we call them and ask about the review?

Thanks for all your replies Saylin! You're so helpful!

  3. If you're 100% sure you sent an original birth certificate, then call up an operator and ask to speak with a supervisor. They'll be able to pull your package and review it themselves. This might take a couple of days though. Haven't seen any recent supervisor reviews, so I can't really tell you how long it'd take, but I'd suspect it'd be a few days. Which might be faster than getting another birth certificate and sending it in again and waiting for it to get to an officer's desk. This is all my opinion though :)

My husband called the NVC yesterday and told them the birth certificate is there. They said they would "send it on for review". So it seems like there is two stages here, an initial review just make sure all the papers are there and then another more thorough one? Does that make sense? Will we get another RFE if the second reviewer can't find the birth certificate? I'm confused again :)

As for our payment, it still shows paid but the money has not been taken from the the account. The operator said it says paid so it's ok, so I have no idea what's going on there. We're trying to tell the NVC to take our money, but they wont :)

    Thanks for any advice!

Thanks for the advice! We will try to do that. Hopefully it'll work :)

  5. An operator can only "see" if a package has been received once it gets to an officer's desk. So your package is very likely just sitting in the mail room or heading its way to a desk. Just be patient, it'll probably still be a few more days.

Thanks Saylin! My husband called the NVC today. They have the package but said we'll get an RFE for the original birth certificate. Which I'm a 100 % sure I included in the package. I'm hoping they just missed it, but am worried they didn't accept the one I sent in, which is the only one the Norwegian gov't issues. How can we get them to look over it again?

Should we just send a new original when we get the RFE, just to make sure. Is that faster than getting the NVC to look at the package again?

  6. Talked to an operator at the NVC today. They said the IV papers look fine but that I need to submit an original birth certificate. Which I already did! So the question is, did they just miss it when they looked over the package or do they not accept the one I sent in. If the latter is the case I don't know what to do since the one I sent in is what the Norwegian government issues. It has a signature and stamp and says "extract of the register of birth" on it. It meets the requirements listed on the NVC web page for birth certificates. And I made sure I sent the original.

Any Norwegians out there who has experienced anything like this? Anyone else know how to deal with this?

So frustrated with the NVC right now!! :bonk:

  7. Also getting a little stressed out since our IV package was delivered on Friday but the NVC still hasn't confirmed that they received it. Could this be related to the payment issue? How long does it usually take from they receive the papers till they review it and/or send out an RFE? If they haven't received the payment, shouldn't they send an RFE for it? Will they hold off on reviewing the papers till they get the payment? Sorry for all the questions, as my husband says, I worry too much :)

  8. I am currently experiencing the same problem - shows up PAID. And I know I messed up when sending my account info. I had sent an e-mail to correct the info so I thought they must have changed it, but no money has been taken from my account. I don't know if I can send out my packet yet....

It's so weird that it shows up as paid when they haven't gotten their money. I don't get it

Did you try calling the NVC? We already sent our papers since we thought it was paid. I don't know if it's gonna cause problems or not... I don't like not knowing what's going on :)

  9. Oh no, my husband just checked his bank account and the money for the IV bill haven't been pulled out of there. It's so strange cause the IV bill still shows paid like it has since we paid it last week. We called the NVC and the operator was gonna check with a supervisor but she thought it meant the payment was rejected. But why does it still show paid?! And why would they reject it? The money is in the account and my husband double checked everything to make sure he did it right.

Has anyone else experienced this? Do you know if this will delay the process a lot? We have already sent the IV papers, since the bill showed "paid", and they were delivered on Friday. Is this bad?! I'm worried... of course something had to go wrong :bonk:

  10. Haha, I don't drink :P But I'll take chocolate :D Or money to pay for school :P

But I honestly love helping everyone out here! It feels great to know that I'm helping others out, reassuring them, etc.

Yup, if you've sent the IV package already, then that's the false RFE.

And I believe, yes, that they've reviewed and accepted your AOS package. Just call on Monday and confirm with an operator.

    Thanks Saylin!

  11. We got the same email. For us, it was a false RFE. When we called NVC, the operator said that our AOS packet was reviewed and found to be complete, but they are still waiting for our IV packet (which was also already delivered at that point). Enjoy your weekend and call them on Monday to confirm it with an operator. :)

That's good to know! Thank you so much for you're reply, I really appreciate it :)

  12. Just got this email from the NVC yesterday: "1 - IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICATION PART 1:

The National Visa Center is waiting for an Immigrant Visa Application to be submitted for this case."

We sent the IV papers earlier this week and according to our tracking info it was delivered to the NVC yesterday. So is this a false RFE then? Did we get it because they haven't had time to put the IV papers into their system yet?

The same email also said "We have reviewed the documents which you submitted in support of an application for an immigrant

visa". Does that mean they are done reviewing our AOS papers and that they have accepted it?

    Thanks for any advice :)

  13. To anyone from Norway, Sweden, or Denmark, I received a notice from the NVC stating that my case had been transferred to Stockholm from Oslo. I called the NVC and they had confirmed that all cases from Norway, Sweden, and Denmark will be handled through the embassy in Stockholm from now on but they gave no reason. I just thought I would inform everyone.

    Thanks for the info!

The American Embassy in Oslo posted information about this in their web page: http://norway.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visas.html.

Luckily, we can still do the medical in Norway.

Guess I'll be making a trip to Sweden in the next couple of months :) Are there more Norwegians out there going through this process right now? It would be nice to share experiences.
