...and even a physical check for testicular cancer. (Has anyone else had the doctor offer this?)
Yes my fiance had his '2 Veg' inspected. He mentioned it only cause he said she spent a little extra time on the left one and that freaked him out a bit.
So here it the breakdown of his medical and a question for everyone too..
His appointment was on Wednesday the 15th of June. He was 15 minutes late due to the complete failure of the train lines that day. Long story short he had to spend 100 quid to get there via taxi. It was a mess! Anyway he was in and out in about an hour. After he arrived he had to fill in some general questionnaire paperwork and then was quickly taken in for his vaccinations and was then told he needed to get an MMR booster shot in 4 weeks. After that he was whisked over to get his chest x-ray, had to stand awkward carrying the lead apron as described by others for about 10 seconds and that was done. He said the x-ray guy was short, round and funny lol and that this guy told him that his chest x-ray looked normal. He went back into the waiting room for about 10 minutes till he saw the doctor. She sat him down asked him general questions like do your wear glasses, are you taking any medication, etc... then asked him to remove shoes and weighed him and measured his height. After that she asked about his police record, if it came back no trace (which it did) and asked if he has ever harmed himself or others to which he replied "Nope". Then he was asked to strip down to his underwear and lay on the exam table. She checked his reflexes, looked at his feet, examined his testicles (spent a bit of time on the left one), listened to his lungs and heart, took his blood pressure and drew some blood. After that he got dressed and she had him do the eye exam. She commented on his high blood pressure at this point and thought it was odd that his doctor doesn't want to review till November (he is on medication for this) but said he passed the blood pressure part of the medical anyway. After that he walked back into the waiting area, was shouted by the receptionist, paid his medical fee and was given his DS-3025, and a receipt for everything. He was told explicitly NOT to give these to the embassy as they will keep them to make copies. They also said he would hear back from them in a few days if there was any abnormalities in his blood test.
So there you have it a quick run down of his experience. Now here is our question... He is a little freaked out that she didn't check his ears, nose and throat with the little light. He is afraid he is gonna fail the interview cause of it. Anyone else not get the ear, nose throat checked? Would appreciate any feedback on that. Thanks!!

Got our interview date.
July 21st.
Now to just wait until then.
Congrats on getting an interview date! Can't wait till we get ours. Hopefully it will fall in July. Do you guys have a wedding date set or did you put one on your DS-2001 cover letter if I may ask?

Snooky, you will need your birth certificate (long form), passport, I-134 affidavit of support and supporting docs, divorce decree (if applicable), receipt for payment of visa, Police certificate, And 3 color US passport photos (I think they only need 2 and one is for the medical but better safe than sorry) there is a list here for you to review: http://london.usembassy.gov/interview_documents.html
As for your fiancé going too I have read it is ok although they could possibly be denied entry. So be prepared for that possibility.
Think that's it! Good luck and keep us posted!!!
In the mean time my fiancé had his medical on Wednesday the 15th of June. Almost didn't make it due to the trains not running on Wednesday morning! It was crazy stressful but a hefty taxi fare later and it's done. PHEW! The packet 3 was returned and signed for but not logged in yet so it's wait, wait, wait for us as well. To be continued I guess...

Hey guys! We got our NOA2 today!!!!!! We are both thrilled!
Notch
Woohoo! Congrats!!
-
Well an update, he made it 10 mins late but there none the less. PHEW! Everything was good they said. He needs to get a second MMR shot in 4 weeks or there after either here or there. That's doable. Either he can get it there in UK or here at a cvs, walgreens, walmart type pharmacy clinic for around $100 (yet more expense
ah well)
So the good news is he made it and the bad news is I've been up since 1:30am and am now at work. Hahaha I think I am gonna start hallucinating today at some point

OMG!!! This is a fiasco
My fiances medical is today at 10:50 GMT and cause he doesn't live in London we booked him a night in a hotel in a town outside of London to serve a dual purpose. One so that he can hop a train into London for his morning appointment (bout an hour versus 3 hours from where he lives) and two so he could visit his kids as they live with his ex-wife in this particular town. Not to mention the cost of the hotel there is waaaaaaay cheaper than staying in one in London itself. So good great he got to see his family yesterday and got up early today to get on his way to London and what happens? The trains are all CANCELLED!! Some sort of "signal problem" on the lines causing 90 min delays etc. So now we are in a panic and have had to hire a taxi to drive him there. I cant even begin to tell you how much money the cab is costing cause it gives me heart pains just thinking about it.
Either way its a nightmare and a drain on our funds yet again.
As long as he makes it it will be worth it all but lesson learned... interview night he is staying IN London.

Good luck!! Stay positive and always remember they don't call it a Visa "Journey" for nothing

They have a 10 day and 2 day processing option. I remember getting mine done with the 2 day option in November, all in all taking about 5 days to arrive from the time I mailed the form.
I'll get another one if I have to, but was wondering if the current one is acceptable to the embassy.
If your last certificate is from November 2010 then it's good till November of this year. That said, you are due for your NOA2 soon as I can see by your time ticker in your signature I just wonder is it cutting it close? I only say this cause after you get your NOA2 its still a bit of work and time sadly with the medical and awaiting packet 3 to be received then receiving your interview
Doubt it will be a problem for the interview but I guess I more worried about whether it be current for when you go for an AOS? Things to consider I guess. Either way best of luck with your journey!
And always remember you can get another one sent to your US address in the future too

I just got Packet 4 with my Interview date: July 21, 2011.
It's OK, I guess, I just had anticipated a sooner date cause Frankfurt is usually faster than that *shrug* but at least it's a date.
Woo! That's awesome. I'd kill for a date that good hehehe guess we have to wait and see. Congrats!!!!

Nevermind it was logged today

Hi Little_g!
They will give you your original back as for the medical you can give them a copy as well.
When I had my interview they made copy of my documents and gave me back my originals!
Good luck
Awesome thanks!
just wondering if it is the same for the UK embassy as it is at the French one. They all operate so differently sometimes but still a good sign that he can keep it. Yay

Hey there, thanks for the reply and yes, hopefully others out there can interject too
Can I ask you if they took your police cert at medical?

Hi there, my fiancé finally got his police certificate in the mail and we were wondering/hoping that if we bring the original and a copy that they will keep the copy after viewing the original so we have the orig. If they keep the original what do we do for the AOS? And do they take it at medical or just look at it there?
Sorry for all the questions! Thanks for any help

A huge congrats to you both honey & bee!!! Also to the latest noa2's!!! How exciting to see such progress on our group

I can't seem to edit my very first post and I wish I could cause I think I created a monster lol!
Anyway I do understand what everyone is saying, a k1 or I-94 when you get in does authorize you to apply for an EAD but you are not authorized to work till then. It is all written very poorly and it is a shame too as dual income is so important in this economy. Anyway I will just file for AOS shortly after he arrives as we are doing a quick court marriage and a party down the road separate (were both divorced so no need for big and fancy) but still get him a ssn after 10 or so days. We are gonna have to get a name change on mine anyway so we can kill two birds with one stone. Lol I wasn't trying to be stubborn I just was so majorly confused by conflicting info. Regards for everyone's help. Let's hope this thread dies hahaha but at the least there is good info on getting a ssn prior to coming over to the US
and hopefully others like me will be clarified on the issue.

Yes I have there is no more EAD stamp for K-1 at port of entry. That was ended long ago.
You need to apply for an EAD to work before having a green card when you enter on a K-1 visa.
Yes and he will apply with the AOS but untill then this is sending conflicting messages if what you state is true...
The K-1 class of admission shown on your immigration document indicates you are the fiancé of a United States citizen. Therefore, you are eligible for a Social Security number and for employment.
To apply for a Social Security number:
Application For A Social Security Card (Form SS-5); and
Show us documents proving your:
Immigration status;
DHS work authorization (I-94, Arrival/Departure Record);
Age; and
Identity.
Take (or mail) your completed application and documents to your local Social Security office.
Again I will call to confirm everything on Tuesday wish tomorrow wasnt a holiday now hehehe but I will never do anything without making double double sure.
-
Sorry but you do need an EAD to work on a K-1 visa.
You need to apply for it with the AOS, The EAD will arrive before the green card in most cases.
But has anyone read any of the links I provided direct from the social security website? It says you can work on that visa. I am not trying to be bull headed trust me and I will call them on Tuesday to get the skinny lol but seriously as a person who is just reading everything I have found it does confirm that you can indeed work on a K-1.
-
See I am reading conflicting things that you CAN work please see here: Visa Classifications that Allow You to Work in the U.S.
K1 is on the list and at the bottom is states "Please Note: If you have a different classification, you must show us evidence from the Department of Homeland Security that you are authorized to work." So you dont need DHS approval and besides you have to wait 10 days to get your SSN so that they can verify with the DHS that you are eligible for work.
-
as far as im aware a ssn is not the same as EAD.it is needed to get an EAD BUT,having a ssn doesnt mean people can work legally
You do not need an EAD to work on a K-1 Visa. See my first and second post and inspect the links too. After all my digging I found that the K-1 visa is on the list of Visa Classifications that Allow You to Work in the U.S.
BUT be aware that it will expire when your K-1 runs out so it is still essential to apply for your permit to work with your AOS.
-
And for those of you like us who didnt do it at the time of applying here ya go:
If you are not an immigrant or did not apply for a Social Security number on your immigrant visa application, you must have your papers from DHS showing your U.S. immigration status and authorization to work in the United States. Then you should apply for a Social Security number and card by visiting an office. We recommend you wait 10 days after arriving in the United States to apply for a Social Security number. This will make it easier for us to verify your DHS documents online, which will speed processing of your Social Security number application. Applying for a Social Security number and card is free. To apply:
Complete an Application For A Social Security Card (Form SS-5);
Show us at least two original documents proving your:
Identity and immigration status,
Work eligibility and
Age; and
Take your completed application and original documents to your local Social Security office.
All documents must be either originals or copies certified by the issuing agency. We cannot accept photocopies or notarized copies of documents. We also cannot accept a receipt showing you applied for the document.
We may use one document for two purposes. For example, we may use your DHS work permit as proof of both your identity and work-authorized immigration status. Your birth certificate or passport may serve as proof of age. However, you must provide at least two separate documents.
We will mail your number and card as soon as we have all of your information and have verified your documents with the issuing offices.

aaaand here is the info I wish I had back in Jan:
"The Social Security Administration (SSA) has a new process for noncitizens to apply for Social Security number (SSN) cards as part of the immigration process. Now, people age 18 and older applying for immigrant visas with the U.S. Department of State can also apply for SSN cards at the same time."...
Link to this page is HERE

Also HERE is a list of Visa Classifications that Allow You to Work in the U.S. and K-1 is on it

Same here, My fiance visited me twice during the process. He was honest and upfront at the POE and produced a return ticket to show his intent to return. Never had a problem. Good luck with your visa journey!
