So having a "tangible reason" to beat someone makes it less of a crime? Who decides what those reasons are? Does putting a hate crime tag on it change the severity of the beating in anyway? If a gay man stole $100 dollars from me, can I beat him senseless without it being tagged a hate crime because he stole money from me?

I wouldn't limit that thinking to "right wingers" I think alot of people left/right white/black wonder the same thing. Why all the attention given to this one particular case, while seemingly ignoring the 100s if not 1000s of victims of crime committed within the black community itself? It's a valid question. Blaming that on Fox news or Rush Limbaugh, or ilovemygunmorethanmywife.com is pretty irresponsible. But hey, any scapegoat out there where you can blame someone else for the internal problems of your community, go for it. Just stop blaming your problems on racism and other people. Maybe when that changes, the real issues will be addressed.

Because white on white crime is just considered crime, we don't have a special name for it. We never had "hate crime" either, until certain groups of people decided they needed special names to draw attention to themselves. Black on white crime gets little to no attention either.
If you're going to constantly insist on making an issue of white on black crime, even when the racial aspect is not the issue of the crime, then you open up that line of thinking yourself. If you want special treatment, you take the good and the bad that comes along with it.
There is no doubt in my mind that the way the black community reacted and continues to react in the GZ case has damaged race relations in this country..

I don't want background checks because I don't like the government having the power to decide who can and can't exercise constitutionally-protected rights. Kind of waters down that whole constitution thing. I find it amazing that otherwise intelligent, rational people believe giving the government the power to "think it over" when it comes to our rights is a good idea.
Not sure which amendment it'll be for most people to get ticked off to the point of changing it, but the 2nd isn't guaranteed, the 4th isn't guaranteed, the 9th and 10th are long gone, and it seems the 5th is next. Perhaps when they toss out the 3rd and you get house guests you'll start to care.

Quite true. I personally don't know any gun owners who look for trouble. And I'd venture to guess that you'd never know a responsible gun owner was carrying 99% of the time. I don't know where some get the idea that people are walking around with a pair of six shooters strapped to their waist. Maybe they watched too many westerns?

I can tell you from first-hand experience that this isn't accurate. The police can and do arrest for DV based on nothing more than a statement from the "victim." The OPs claim that the arrest was based on the "first caller's" statements alone reflects my own experience. I'm sure some PDs are more professional that others.....but I can assure you that a simple statement can land you in jail, and run you through a multiple thousand dollar judicial process that can cost a year or more of your life.

Were you raised with guns in the house? My brothers and I were broke into hunting at age 4 starting with quail. Just about every kid I grew up with was in pretty much the same boat. You started out on birds and by the 1st or 2nd grade you were getting blooded with your first Black Tail.
It's called being taught about guns and having some common sense. That's were beating your kids comes in. If we screwed up we got beat and it had an affect as in don't screw up or else.

There is a difference between gun related deaths and death from guns used in violent crimes. Gun related deaths included everything from accidental shooting , through suicides, and violent crimes. After revisiting the data, Harsh is correct that the actual murders by hand gun is in the 12 to 13000 range.

According to independent research, Guns are used for right more than they are used for wrong.
It is estimated that guns are used to defend and protect 2.5 Million times a year, compared to the 18000+ deaths by guns. Also the argument that the increased availability of guns leads to an increase in violent crimes does not hold water as there is a record amount of registered firearms in the US, but the violent crime statistics are dropping for the 5th straight year.

What I am saying is there are some groups who love to make Gun violence sound as a big issue and its a fantasic topic which makes lot of ppl buy into their idea and hence think Gun violence is a big issue.
If you look at the major case, where the gun violence is involved it is not the legal gun owner its illegal gun owners.

Its a mis-information.... some people make it a major issue and other ppl believe it.

So are you claiming illegal gun owners are sane and good citizen?
