Actually, Mexico offers health insurance to women and children, and affordable health insurance to migrant workers. The incentive is an economic one. Where there is work, people will go. Imagine if the states started limiting non-residents from moving into those states - their economies would collapse. The anti-immigration sentiment that has swelled since the Recession is fueled by frustrations and fears over our economic future and undocumented immigrants have become a convenient scapegoat.

Do you like inventing statistics? Fun, isn't it?
Why do you want a Balanced Budget Amendment? To force Congress to do the job it was elected to do? Why can't they just do that job? Do you need a Constitutional Amendment in order to do your job?
Oh, and there are people focused on the problem. We've had Simpson-Bowles. We've had Rivlin-Domenici. We've had the Gang of Six. We're about to get the Super Committee, god bless 'em. Outside of government, there's no shortage of focus on it. I can tell you the bond market focuses on it pretty intently.
We know the answers. They're going to be painful, but they're not rocket science to come up with. Here's a broad outline.
-Re-index SS to wage growth rather than CPI. Benefits kick in progressively at ages 70 and higher. Benefits clawed back for higher income earners. Income subject to payroll tax raised progressively from $106K on an inflation-indexed basis.
    - Similar adjustments to Medicare, Medicaid.
    - Proportionate reductions to Pentagon budget.
    - Roll back tax rates to pre-Bush era. Income as well as capital gains and dividend rates. Do away with the egregious loopholes and corporate tax shelters. Simplify, widen, flatten.
Do those things and we'll be well on the way to balanced budgets.
Do those things in a way that also invests in infrastructure and shows problem solving ability in Washington, and you'll see resumed consumer and business confidence. Which will result in growth. Which will create jobs, raise revenues further and allow us to start talking about the SURPLUSES we'll need if we ever want to pare down the accumulated debt, not just reduce the annual deficits.
And look - no balanced budget amendment needed. Just take Simpson-Bowles out of the drawer, dust it off, and get cracking.

Wow, the bizarre logic that all maladies require the same logic in approaching them from a public perspective is astounding... but it certainly explains certain things about how and why some folks here feel the way they do.

Don't you think addressing childhood asthma by cancelling sports as a bit incongruous to limiting nut exposure in a public area where an allergy can ensue in some cases from simple, residual contact? I don't think an asthmatic kid can get an asthma attack from high-fiving a 400m runner.

No? OK, I'm ok with preventing what this topic is about- a potentially lethal anaphylaxis. I know you're not ok with that, and we can call it a day with judgement reserved accordingly.

We're talking about schools, not government. I know you probably shudder at any authority, be they chosen in the democracy we live in, to set forth the proceedings of the society we're born into.
If you don't want to live with everyone else, feel free to work towards that personal-responsibility sovereign country out in the open ocean and leave the rest of us in our attempt to live in a civilized society that actually does act out in personally responsible ways that also include watching out for their fellow human beings.

Oh no, the caps are back. Paul's getting angrier!
Nut allergies are fairly common. Enough said. If there is any chance that a child can fall to anaphylactic shock as a result of something particularly foreign to their own actions (try reading that, more carefully again), at school, then it is certainly the parents' responsibilities to ensure those risks are kept to a minimum. This includes taking necessary legal and regulatory steps to seek cooperation from the schools their children attend. I know I could say something as you do in making blanket statements and generalizations now as to making that a factual act of parenting, but I won't, because I (as opposed to you in the specific), understand that there are many things beyond parenting that influence what children do.
You can keep getting angrier and whine more, and that will continue cementing the observations that are made about your ability to rationalize your opinions as fact. Which would be indicative of someone quite out of touch with a sane mind.
Sigh. That's what you think they should be doing. That's called 'Opinion.'

Wow lots of anger today from Paul.
Paul: you should understand that many foodstuffs are handled in plants that commonly come into contact with nut products. School districts should perhaps regulate the food processors they deal with?
I would predict that, if you were to have kids, and one were to come out with a food allergy, you'd be the first hysterical parent whining that your school district regulate these things.

Normal are people living in a society realizing that they live in a society and that doing so has both benefits and drawbacks. You do not fall into the category of normal people. And yet, we normal people accommodate you in these discussions. You see, you're the nut allergy kid that we have to put up with.

Zero Sum reacted to Trumplestiltskin in England’s law-abiding citizens have become defenseless.
It's a mixture of things. The initial riot in Tottenham followed a peaceful protest, basically it was hijacked by extremists and street gang thugs.
The riots across the rest of London and in other cities were industrial scale shoplifting and vandalism. It's all driven by council estate youth via social media and the perception that they could get away with it. There's nothing political behind it, it's just the have nots acting out. Too many youths on benefits with no education and no jobs.
The British empire hasn't existed since WW2. Think you need to update your knowledge a bit, si man.

If anything it proves that Science is flexible and adapts to new discoveries and updated understanding of the physical universe we inhabit.
I'm guessing that only someone who's religious beliefs are threatened by science would use articles like this to prove science is flawed. Now I don't have a problem with religious people but I'd like to have someone show me how the bible or any other religious doctrine has been updated to current times and understanding?
