Visa Medicals - My Experience

I planned to arrive into London Paddington 2 hours prior to my medical. The train was late, but even so I was outside the station about 1 hours early. It was a nice day so decided to take the 30-minute walk to Visa Medicals. You go through a pleasant part of the city and once you cross Edgware Road, keep on the right side of the road and you ll first notice the Coach Makers Pub to the left and opposite Visa Medicals as the main landmark.

Although an hour early, I walked the few steps and rang the buzzer and explained that I was here for my medical. I was buzzed in without offering any further detail and made my way through the inner door to the lobby of the building. To the right is a rather ornate wooden door with a brass plaque with Flat 4 Visa Medicals Doctor inscribed. I just opened the door, as there is no other security at this point and went to one of the vacant windows, (of two) to the right of the reception area. I stated my name and did say that I was early, but was given a clipboard and asked to take a seat in the waiting room and complete the additional forms. In essence the additional forms mainly include what you had already noted on form IV-18 (May 2017) with the addition of GP Practice information and other items that you d not have a problem in knowing straight away. A medical release for the chest x-ray and perhaps some things to read through.

As I was early, I had taken some time in completing and then returned the clipboard and documents to reception. I was asked for the usual police certificate and IV-18 form along with the SCR, vaccination history and listed medication print from Patient Access. All was in order and I then had my photo taken, which was also done in the reception area.

I then returned to the reception area, with about another 14 people. The waiting room is not that big and I d say holds around 25 people tops. It wasn t long before I was called by the Doctor, (there is no order of who you see first) and then walked back into their office. I was asked some general questions and weight and height measurements taken. Then to the examination table for a comprehensive examination, (ENT,BP, heart rate, heart, lungs abdominal). The check of arms, glands etc. I then returned to the waiting area until called for the x-ray, which was straight forward and then on to the vaccination nurse. Review of Patient Access immunisations records where I then received all outstanding jabs . I know you can get some done on the NHS, but I didn t do this, as I just wanted the day to be done and dusted, there and then. It s a very expensive day anyway

Once complete, I went back to the waiting room, where I was soon called again to check out. Went to reception and ultimately collected my payment card and hand stamped receipt, Certificate or Immunisation, FAQ letter and my copy of DS-7794.

I was in Visa Medicals for about 1 hours all together. I walked back to Paddington Station and then sought the next train home. I only booked a single, as you really have no idea when you ll be finished and why get a return a sweat that you may miss it. Got home earlier than anticipated after a successful day.

The medical is fine, no need to panic, although do take some reading material, as you could be there a long time. I did not see any plugs to keep phones charged, so an external battery pack, comes in handy. All the staff are very nice and put you at ease. Overhearing reception, they do offer same day appointments too!

Finally, if you do come in via train, look at getting a rail card, it paid for itself twice over, just on this one trip alone. There was little I could do to avoid peak travel and an extortionate fare.

conditional Green Card expires April 2026.

I had a similar question about this:

My conditional Green Card expires April 2026. Online it says I need to file the I-90 to remove those conditions and receive a 10-year one within 90 days of the expiration date. It also says the processing time can be from 1 month to 2.5 years...

I know after 3 years of being here, I'm eligible to apply for citizenship, as I married a native. Does this mean I could, theoretically, become a US citizen before I receive my renewed 10-year Green Card? Am I even allowed to apply for citizenship while the I-90 is being processed?

TIA

Tax Season. Confused

Hi everybody. Me and my husband are a little confused and are seeking clarification when filing taxes.

I got my permanent residency December 2024. The form has asked him if I was both a non-resident and resident in 2024. I would assume we would still file jointly as we're still married and I still received my permanent residency before the end of the tax year. However, we don't want to make any mistakes as we're obviously dealing with the IRS and we don't want USCIS to think we're in a sham marriage because we haven't filed jointly.

Am I right in understanding that even though I got my GC in December, we can still file jointly? Thanks!

Supporting evidence for AOS following K1 marriage?

Hi all,

Hoping you can advise here.

I entered the US on my K1 last week and we'll be planning to get married over the next few weeks. Throughout the whole K1 process I had in my head that we will need further supporting evidence of our relationship/marriage for the AOS process, such as co-mingling finances, opening joint accounts, health insurance, etc. However, now that I'm revisiting guidance on our next steps, there isn't any mention of this.

I am wondering if I misread something early on and it just stuck in my mind, and that we actually don't need to provide anything like this. VJs AOS guide doesn't make any mention of it, and nor does any other immigration-based sites. Is this something needed for the potential interview (from what I understand not all people get called for AOS interview)?

Can anyone confirm or clarify what we need? A run down of the docs you provided, when filing and/or for interview, would be really helpful.

Thank you :)
