Hi there

Applied for k1 on 1 Oct 2019 and received embassy docs on 13 Mar 2020. Unfortunately had issues with my kids dad and didn't proceed with the application.

This time round we obtained the go ahead to migrate and submitted k1 on 1 Nov 2022 but saw online that the timeline to enquire is 29 Apr 2024. I'm getting worried as my child needs to start school in the US in July. Any similar experiences or comments will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Registration of Marriage at NY Consulate/Previous Divorce

My wife and I find ourselves in one of those bureaucratic quagmires that seem to be all too common when dealing with the Philippine government. Here are the basics:

- My wife was previously married (and divorced) a Canadian. She has never lived in the Philippines, and they never registered their marriage with the Philippines.

- We were married in the US in 2019, and she received a CR1 US visa in 2021. She got a CENOMAR from the PSA at the time even though she was already married twice.

- We now need to register our marriage so that she can reacquire Philippine citizenship once she's naturalized as a US citizen (she can apply in early 2024).

- Based on info from the consulate we would need to hire a lawyer and go to court in the Philippines (any Regional Trial Court, apparently) and the Manila City Civil Register Office to get her Canadian divorce decree registered before we can register our marriage.

- Then we need to get the US Dept of State and the State of Maine (and maybe British Columbia) to apostille our documents before we send them off to the consulate.

However, if she is currently legally single in the eyes of the Philippine govt, do we really need to bring the first marriage into it at all? On the registration of marriage, there's a box for civil status of the husband and wife before marriage. Could we just put "single" instead of "divorced" there? The only documentation that contradicts this is that our US marriage certificate shows this is her second marriage.

If anyone on here has experience with any of this, we'd love your advice.

Can anyone confirm what vaccinations are required for an adult age between 18-64 for immigration into the US ?

According to the Travel Gov State website the following vaccines are required for immigration purposes:

  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B
  • Influenza
  • Influenza type b (Hib)
  • Measles
  • Meningococcal
  • Mumps
  • Pneumococcal
  • Pertussis
  • Polio
  • Rotavirus
  • Rubella
  • Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids
  • Varicella

They provided the below table to showcase which vaccination applies for which age groups. However it is not clear how up to date this information is.

https://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/civil-surgeons/vaccinations.html

https://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/pdf/Vaccine-Requirements-According-to-Applicant-Age-p.pdf

I have not taken vaccinations for Varicella, Meningococcal and Pneumococcal. Are these required for an adult age between 18-64 ?

Any clarification would be appreciated.

5 years residency in USA for a foreign spouse

Hi, I am a Singaporean married to a US citizen and have only visited US as a tourist.

As per the social security website, some nationalities will be eligible for spouse's social security benefit as long as we fulfill the 5 years residency in US.

Appreciate if anyone can help with my questions:

1. Do I have to go through the marriage green card route in order to prove the 5 years residency to Social Security? Would a K3 visa or CR1 visa validity suffice for 5 years of residency?

2. Do I have to live in USA for full 360/365 days per year to fullfill the 5 years residency? Our plan is to spend a couple of months between Singapore and US each year.

3. Which state/area would you recommend for retirement purpose? Lower cost of living with a great community and ease of travelling around and out of US.

Many thanks for your time
