Medical timing advice

My wife and I filed for AOS (from B2) in December of 2020, and we did so without submitting the medical. Since we have recently received our biometrics appointment, it's gotten us thinking about when to get the medical done. It's likely my wife will need vaccinations, as she has proof for only a few of them, and the local civil surgeon is currently scheduling appointments a month from now. Is the medical something we should get done now, or should we wait for the RFE? If we wait for the RFE, how much time will we have to respond if they decide to ask for it to be mailed in instead of brought to the interview?

We don't want to get the medical done too early, as it's only valid for 2 years, but we don't want to be scrambling to get it done on a short timeline after getting an RFE or interview appointment.

What is the best practice on this these days?

LPR entered US on Dec. 19 - how do we file 2020 taxes?

Hello wise people!

If anyone can enlighten me, I have the following situation: I am the LPR, hubby is USC. I entered the US on December 19, 2020. Before this, we lived together in my home country, Romania, where we were both employed by Romanian employers.

Hubby wants to file his 2020 taxes tomorrow so the questions are:

- since I entered on December 19, which means I started being an LPR on December 19, do I have to file US taxes for 2020? I obviously didn't get any income here yet as I don't yet have a job. My SSN was issued on December 22 and my SS card arrived on January 4.

- assuming I don't have to file US taxes, is it ok if hubby files Married Filing Separately, so I don't have to mess with my Romanian income? (My Romanian income was way below $10000 if this has any relevance). He filed Married Filing Separately for 2019 since we didn't want to get through the hurdles of me getting an ITIN from Romania and we had enough relationship proof for my CR1 anyway. Would it be better if he files Married Filing Jointly for 2020? Would I have to pay US taxes for my Romanian income if he files jointly? I know for the ROC it's best to show joint tax filing but we are planning to file jointly for 2021 and 2022 (ROC application will be due late 2022 and interview no sooner than 2023 so plenty of time to built joint everything).

Anyone can advice? Sorry if my questions are silly.

Thanks a bunch!

A fresh Texan :)

Affidavits for ROC. Is it mandatory?

Looks like I am back. 2 years passed by really really fast.

I was trying to "lurk around" during AOS and after, but life just got busy after a while....

Now I just started to put together the ROC package (filing jointly).

For the ROC the instructions mention affidavit letters

"

Form I-751 Instructions 12/02/19 Page 6 of 105. Affidavits sworn to or affirmed by at least two people who have known both of you since your conditional residence was granted and have personal knowledge of your marriage and relationship.

"

Is it mandatory? Based on the language sounds like it is, but wondering.

I am curious if there is any correlation between getting an interview and not providing affidavit letters?

Thank you!

Registering foreign marriage with the Romanian consulate? (apostille and translation required)

Although I am not expecting much, I thought I'd try posting here anyway.

Has anyone had a successful experience registering their marriage while not in their home country? The official instructions are a little headache-inducing, with contradicting statements in a couple places. From what I am gathering, the two documents that would need apostilled are my husband's birth certificate and our marriage certificate (long form). That part was easy. The not so easy part is wrapping my head around the requirements for legal translation. From their website, I have gathered that they CAN do translations, but in another section they say they no longer do them unless it is for emergency travel.

So the requirements for having the translation done elsewhere are even more confusing: once the documents have the apostille, you are supposed to get a legal translation of both the documents and the apostille, then notarize it and then apostille the notary signature??? That makes very little sense to me, but it was all information found on the website, although the language used is very oddly worded and difficult to understand.

So has anyone successfully dealt with registering their marriage with a country that is a member of the Hague Convention? It is my understanding they all have similar requirements.

I have tried to contact the Romanian consulate with no luck and so far I have simply concluded that I may have to wait until I naturalize and go back to Romania to clear it all up in person.

Hey everyone, I'm traveling out of the country and I only have my Romanian passport with a valid I-551 stamp. WIll that be valid since I am already a citizen but my Naturalization certificate is with USPS for my passport application and won't get back in time for my travel.
I'll be taking a copy of my Naturalization certificate with me, but was just wondering if I'll have any issues with my stamp.

Thank you!
