My wife and I want to change her name to take my last name. Our marriage certificate just lists our current names as they are since there was no option to change the name here. From what I've researched, that is still okay and the best way to change her name is while applying for the I-485.

So what I've done is changed her last name on the form to my last name, and her middle name is now her maiden name (I assume that is okay?). The only exceptions are for areas on forms that ask for her name as it appears on a form, and I've put her old name under areas where that is applicable.

I'm also concerned about the I-131 because there isn't a spot to put former names, so do I put her new name or her name as it is on her passport?

The last thing I'm concerned about is writing her name in non-Roman letters. On the marriage certificate and the rest of the forms, we're using her name with Roman letters (that's how it appears in the marriage certificate/social security card, and it's how she's been using her name here. Her passport even has her name in roman letters even though that's not technically the native way of writing her name).

So on Part 4 of the I-485 "Information About Beneficiary" it says to type/print her name and foreign address in their native written language if it does not use roman letters. Is this safe to skip? She lives here in the US so she has no foreign address. Also, Part 4, number 5 says "Other Names Used" but it doesn't say anything about foreign letters, so I've left her old name romanized).

I am not sure if I'm on the right place here but I'm confused about our situation.

I got married upon k1visa and I had brought my daughter.

Due to the pandemic, I and my daughter couldn't get SSN after marriage, so we applied for ITIN instead while we are waiting for SSN with green card (I-765).

After 8 week waiting, we got rejected.

The reason for my daughter is that she doesn't qualify for ITIN. It says 'You don't qualify for an ITIN. You are not eligible for one because you didn't meet residency criteria or qualify as an exemption for tax purpose'.

I thought step children qualify for an ITIN. Am I wrong?

If so, my only option is to wait for I-765 approved ?

In my case, it says 'You weren't listed on an attached us federal income tax return, or you were listed as dependent on an attached us federal income tax return but were not claimed for any allowable tax benefit.'

My husband just applied for extension for tax return a couple days ago.

What should we do?

Working on filing the I-130 online using the USCIS website. Do I need to include a cover letter with all my supporting documents? I've seen mixed responses online.

For some background, our case is pretty simple. Got married in Japan. Hubby will stay in Japan while I go back to the US, but we have a joint lease agreement as part of our evidence, and I will provide many photos and text messages.

Speaking of photos, I've also been told on this forum that I should label the photos and give context. Would it be alright to paste the photos in a word document and add a caption to each photo that way?

I won the dv-2022 with case number AS6xxx.
I also admitted to the school and will be starting Master degrees in the US from this fall.
I am now thinking obtaining F1 first, and then processing Green Card after successfully entering the US.
However I've already started filling DS260 without any knowledge regarding F1 and Green Card. But I've not submitted yet. Will it affect my obtaining F1?

Hi I just got a notice from the NYC local office stating that I have to appear for an I751 initial interview in May.

I've already received a 10 year green card in June 2020 so I'm really confused?

The USCIS case status states that they delivered the new card on June 24, 2020, which I received around that time.

I'm so confused about this notice. Should I go to the interview despite of having the 10 year green card?

1/22/18: USCIS office received I751 application

1/23/18: NOA for I751 receipt

8/6/18: NOA for I551 12 month extension

4/19/19: RFE for insufficient evidence. Required to submit evidence by 7/15/19

6/xx/19: Evidence submitted

8/14/19: NOA for case transfer to National Benefits Center in Lee's Summit

6/10/20: Approve notice for I751

6/11/20: NOA for I551 18 month extension

6/xx/20: 10 year green card received (Expires on 6/10/2030)

4/19/21: Request to appear for initial interview at the NYC federal plaza
