In Hong Kong, we have this Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) which is for retirement, sort of like pension scheme. If someone leaves Hong Kong permanently, he/she can apply to withdraw it. If I'm able to take this lump sum out and bring it to US before /when I land the first time (either bringing a band draft, or wiring the money to my husband's US bank account), will this amount be treated as my foreign-earned income and be taxable?

Quick summary of our situation: We intended to complete the K1 visa process in the Philippines, so our case was assigned to USEM Manila and my fianc completed the DS-160 and paid the MRV fee there. He is a Hong Kong resident and relocated there from the Philippines due to the pandemic, so we requested to have our case transferred to the Hong Kong consulate. Our question is: Will the completed DS-160 and already-paid MRV fee be considered valid for completing our visa case in Hong Kong? Or will a new DS-160 and additional MRV fee be required? Thanks in advance!

Hi, My minor child & spouse s F2A petitions have been approved and all documents have been submitted to NVC. The last step is consulate interview but it is yet to be scheduled due to the pandemic. Is it possible for them to enter the U.S. with their B1/2 visa and switch to adjustment of status or have their interview scheduled in the U.S. instead? They would like to wait in their own country-Hong Kong for the interview, but the political situation is getting more tensed & escalating everyday from consulate staff being assaulted outside of the consulate and the consulate is selling their property in HK (a trace of evacuation). I m afraid if my immediate family members don t leave the city now, they won t have a chance to leave once the war begins in South China Sea.

Hello all, I had tried to open a bank account in US when I was there last time, but the bank didn't accept because I didn't have SSN. Now I got my IR1 visa and am planning on how to move my assets (savings account) into US before I move this year. Is there any issue if I transfer my money into my husband's account? I have his bank account set up with my bank and had done several wire transfers before over the past few years. We plan to do a few transfers before I move, but each will still be over $10K. All the money is legit as it's coming from my wages which I saved over the years. I'm just wondering if it will trigger any tax issue on his part or my part when I arrive.
