Private retirement plan

I'm working part time and don't get any benefits which is kinda ok since I'm covered under my husband's healthcare. He's military, we still have a couple years to go and that means quite some moving around and changing jobs so who knows if I'll ever get offered a 401k and if, it probably wouldn't even make sense to contribute to it in the long run.

That's why I'm thinking about starting a private plan but after reading up on it I'm kinda lost. The regulations are just weird and I would need something that I'm allowed to contribute when I work and also during times when I'm not ( IRA and Roth only allow to contribute when I earn money while a spousal IRA would only allow contributions from my employed husband FOR me and I have to be unemployed ( at least that's my understanding. ))

Does anybody have tips and/ or experience with private plans?

AOS - Business Owner in Home Country

Hi all!

My fiance and me, we are currently in the process of our K1 application (waiting for NOA2).

With the whole Covid-19 around, we had to adjust some of our plans and came to a question.

Is it possible for me (living in Germany) to own a business in Germany, when I travel to the US with my K1 Visa, get married and then apply for the Adjustment of status?

It's just a small shop (hair dresser) and I plan to eventually sell it at one point.

Since I know I am not allowed to work in the US, while I await for my AOS, I am really unsure about this. I myself would of course stop working there when I move and have someone else take care of the managing tasks.

Another question I have is, if it is at all possible for me to have property in Germany, while awaiting the AOS. I would for instance rent out my house and therefore have income of that.

I googled for days but cannot find a real answer.

Maybe anyone here has some experience?

Thank you!

Sabina

Hey everyone,

this thursday three weeks ago I had my interview and everything went great; about a week later I got the approval letter that said I should receive my GC within 3 weeks. I know I still have about a week or so to go before that threshold is reached, but I was just wondering how long it took for you guys - I am sure the pandemic does not make it any easier on an already overloaded government. Thanks! (cant wait to finally update my profile on here with all the relevant information from the past two years lol)

Regards

Hi, im about 4 weeks away from moving to the US and some others and me where just talking about when we actually could start looking for jobs.

i know You can apply for and work Jobs with your Visa / GreenCard in your Passport but how is it with your ssn?

do you need it to apply for jobs as well?

Can you just go to their office and apply for one and get it delivered within days or do you have to wait for the ssn to arrive in the mail as you selected at the end of your ds260?

the consular officer said it could take months for my physical green card to arrive, same with SSN?

Please send along some advice

and sorry for my confused english, its late here

Social Security has not arrived

Hello everybody,

I entered the US on July 12, 2020. I applied for a Social Security Number while filling out form DS-260. It has been 6 weeks since I arrived and I still haven't received my social security card nor have I been issued a number. I came into my local social security field office for an in-person appointment and the agent did not want to start a new application for me as "officially" I already applied for one and they need to wait for USCIS to send them my information.

I have been contacting USCIS several times for the past three weeks and they are unable to or cannot look into my application. Therefore, if there was an issue with my application or if it is not being processed, there is no way for me to know as USCIS is not letting me know. This is a major issue as my local social security office will not make a new application for me unless I somehow get proof from USCIS that they are not or will not issue me a Social Security number.

I am so frustrated and I don't know what to do. I am seriously considering leaving the US if this continues. Without a social security number, one simply cannot do anything in this country. Has anyone went through a similar experience?
