First Time Passport - Certified Copy Confusion

Hi all - I made an appointment with the USPS for my passport. I know I need to bring the DS-11, a check for the fee and supporting docs.

When it comes to supporting docs I am a bit confused. Do I need to bring both the original and also black and white copy of the naturalization certificate? If so, will they take both at the appointment or send me back with the original? I don't fee l very comfortable having the original taken for months as this would mean I have absolutely no document of any sort regarding my status.

Any help would be appreciated.

  • Submit your original evidence of U.S. citizenship.
  • Submit a photocopy of the front (and back, if there is printed information) of your original evidence of U.S. citizenship.
  • Photocopies must be: legible, on white 8.5 x11 standard paper, black and white, and single sided.
  • In some cases, you may be able to submit a certified copy of your citizenship evidence. A certified copy is any document that has the seal or stamp of the official issuing authority.
  • If you don't want to submit a photocopy of your citizenship evidence, you may submit a second certified copy of your citizenship evidence, which we will keep. If you don t submit a photocopy or a second certified copy of your citizenship evidence, your passport processing could be delayed.
  • You cannot submit digital evidence of U.S. citizenship (e.g. electronic or mobile birth certificate) when applying for a U.S. passport. You must continue to submit your physical evidence of U.S. citizenship and a photocopy of it.

- Interview was scheduled for 8:35AM in the Raleigh, NC office. I went with my lawyer who helped file my N-400.

- Arrived at 8:20AM. Check in took 5 minutes. Waited another 15-20 before we were called.

- Interviewer was extremely friendly, explained what the process was going to look like and began with an oath to say the truth.

- Civics part was first and after answering 6/6 that ended. Then reading and writing. Then Yes and No questions. My attorney gave the IO my recent travels and updated the file.

- He handed me a paper that said recommended for approval. He asked if I could take my oath today and then asked me to wait downstairs for it.

- Case status got 3 updates since this morning... 1) We recommended N400 for approval 2) Your application was placed in line for oath ceremony 3) Oath ceremony notice was mailed.

- I assume that it will switch to approved in the coming days.

- No additional documents were requested. At no point did I submit tax transcripts or was requested to do so. Only evidence I ever provided was, marriage certificate, green card copy, traffic ticket copy, selective services copy and the passport copy. Filed under 5 yr rule. No RFEs

Overall great experience. Was in and out in 1 hour. I am happy to have concluded my journey to the citizenship and that I will no longer have to communicate with the USCIS.

Thank you all who have helped me throughout my journey. I will be staying here hoping to help someone else.

In my N400 onlinr account under my documents it shows 2 things only:

1) Copy of my GC and supporting docs

2) Scanned page of N400 showing the representation page only (lawyer info)

Should there be a scan of the entire N400 application too? Not sure why they would not scan that

Hi All,

It is that time for me to file for my last application on my immigration journey. Thank you to all kind folks who have helped and educated me throughout this process!

I have an attorney who is filing N-400 for me online. She says that all that is required to upload as an additional document is my marriage certificate. Is this correct? I know that I need 5 years of taxes, 2 photographs and etc.. Do I bring them to my interview once it gets scheduled? How does this work?

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I got a citation ticket yesterday, it says in comments "Warning Designated trash collection" and the amount of the fine is 0$ but it is still says hearing date 3.27.23.

Can it affect my 751 application and citizenship in future? Should I mention this in my n400 application and bring this warning with me for the interview? Is this warning in the system?

I am kinda confused because the sign I parked within says "you can park on this side mon-thirsday 8am-8pm. And I got this warning on Monday at 8.39 am.

Thank you for your answers!
