US Immigration from Afghanistan

Hi everyone - so I wanted to get some info on the new law that was passed about public charge. I have my mother in law who is a green card holder who just got approved for Medicaid. She is planning on applying for citizenship in approximately 2-3 years time. I was trying to figure out if her receiving Medicaid will stop her from becoming a US citizen in the future?

I came to the US on a K1 visa and recently received my greencard. I did not apply for a work permit during this time either. As I was waiting for my greencard before I start applying for jobs.

And I just found a job, but the Social Security Office is closed due to the pandemic and they won't even pick up their phones either. I don't know what to do. Like my whole life is on pause due to the Social Security Office being closed. Can't get a license, can't get health insurance and I can't even start my job. I just hope my job offer doesn't get retaken. Anybody have this same issue with the SS office?

My husband attended his Naturalization Interview today. He applied based on marriage and the 3 year-rule in December 2019. Interview was scheduled for 09/22/2020.

He arrived at his interview and was asked questions directly from his application. He was then asked to read a sentence in English and write the response. Next he was ask a few government/history questions:

1) Who is the governor of your state?

2) Who was the first President?

3) What are the two major political parties in the U.S.?

4) Name one of the writers of the Federalist Papers.

5) What are two ways that Americans can participate in their democracy?

The process took 45 minutes. He passed all without any issues; however, he was told that a decision couldn t be made at this time. The interviewer told him he should hear something in 3 to 4 months, but with COVID it might be longer. If he didn t hear anything within 6 months, to contact them. He was told he would either be asked for additional documentation or receive notice that his naturalization was approved.

It was a bit disappointing, as we had hoped we were finally done with this process, but it looks as if it s another waiting game. In the last five years, he has made 2 trips to his home country of Afghanistan to visit his family. I am wondering if that had anything to do with it or if this is a common thing?

For those that weren t approved immediately, how long did you have to wait for your naturalization?

Hello, i just put information on our timeline when i remembered that we had our interview scheduled back in February 23rd by the embassy, but i missed it because the embassy never notified me nor my lawyer of the interview date. We only found out after our lawyer had a state senator contact NVC which was too late by a week or so then the pandemic happened.

this makes me a little bit angry. But im wondering if this has happened with anyone else too?
