oh dear... :o

You will take your take away talk out of my thread!!!! :bonk: :bonk: :bonk:

We're moving towards - "Do you find that you adapt your accent/dialect to match that of the restaurant you happen to be in?".

:thumbs::lol:

I'll have to see if I can get away with a crude Paul Hogan accent and one of those hats with the corks hanging from the brim, down the local Outback Steakhouse...

I sometimes like to pretend I'm an alien from another planet, with my own method of communication...mental telepathy...although it doesn't translate too well on a forum.

Don't worry, it shows! :lol:

:lol: My grandma actually does that! Probably one of the more embarrassing times of my life was when she ordered from a Chinese waiter at a Chinese restaurant in a Chinese accent.

If I try any harder, gray matter will fly out of my nostrils. I'll try to find an online telepathy translater and get back to you.

I'd like to know if anyone in the Orlando area ahas any reccos for a great Indian place?

I've eaten at an Indian restaurant twice in Orlando but don't remember the name. The first time we ate there, we found it accidentally. I'd say it was ok, not the best ever. Depends on what you are expecting. There are a few in Orlando, just look in the phone book and pick one. Sorry I don't have better advice than that. :P

Ok, I am interested in this topic although I expect I am in a minority on this one.

I don't speak like my SO. I believe that's because I was an adult at the time I came over. However, my son quickly adopted the US accent to 'fit in' at school.

If you do accidentally (or deliberately) copy your SO's accent, does it embaress you or do you like it?

Do you find yourself IMing with the same accent?

Accents are cute in my opinion but sometimes (the Madonna one has been pointed out) it seems false if it appears you are deliberately assuming an accent.

I only copy his accent when I am teasing him or joking around. I am trying to do it more and more accurately, for fun's sake, b/c sometimes it comes out sounding Mexican. :hehe: I'm getting it down though. It'd be pretty weird if I went around seriously talking in an Indian accent. :P When I used to chat to him while he was in India, I did get lazy with my wording and we'd skip words here and there like someone does when learning the language. But I don't do that to other people.

Wow - that's pretty blushworthy...

A little while ago went to a chinese restaurant with one of my wife's friends (the friend was of chinese descent). Part way through the meal she wanted the waiter but couldn't remember what he looked like, because (her words) "they all look the same".

My SO talks really funny being from Newcastle Upon Tyne, England (he says I"m the one that talks funny...but oh well). This thread reminded me of something a friend sent me. It's hysterical....I understood most of it, but had to look a few phrases up on google. Enjoy y'all!
