Here is the deal: Embassy received our paperwork on 11/13/07, but my wife never received packet 3 in the mail. On 12/03, I called the embassy to find out why it was taking so long for her to get packet 3, and they basically forgot to send her the packet, but said her interview was scheduled for 12/12/07. So we basically have to kick into overdrive to get all the paperwork, medical, police checks completed by the 12th. There is no way I could make it to Lima, Peru on such short notice (8 days) to be at the interview, so I sent my wife the notarized I-134 affidavit of support and the supporting documents that i had for the interview. We are rushing to get all the papers, but I think we can make it to next Wednesday...

Ok, so here is the question: My wife went on 12/04 to the embassy to pick up the packet, but I think they gave her the wrong one, and I want to confirm it. The instructions she got was she had to complete 2 copies of OS-230 and pay the $380 visa fee. I am 99% sure this is the wrong instruction list she got. I want to confirm that a K-3 visa completes the DS-156 (2 copies) and the DS-156K and the visa fee is $100. I have little faith in the government to get anything right at this point, as there has been some type of error or mistake at every level of this process thus far (Postal Service, USCIS, NVC, and now Embassy).

My K3 package contained: checklist, approved medical practitioner info and instructions to submit: DS-156 part 1, DS-230 and also (optional) DS-157.

Doesn't sound like they gave your wife the correct paperwork :( If her interview is only on the 12th, I would get on to the embassy straight away to sort this out. Worst thing they can tell you when you speak to them (which they won't) is that the forms are correct.

It appears the OS-230 I and II are correct. Your embassy may process K visas as immigrant visas. Is it possible the fee is for a work visa? I would suggest searching and then asking in the Regional Discussion Latin America thread.

doesn't sound like the right package for K3. although looks like your I-130 is approved as well. do confirm with the consulate if they're going to process I-130 instead of K3. This happened to a couple when I was at the embassy for my K3 visa. the officer noticed that the I-130 was also approved alongwith the k3 and went ahead and processed I-130.

it will be much much better if you go straight to I-130

That can only happen if the I130 is also at the embassy, which for the OP it will not be. They have done no NVC related processing and fee paying to make it so. In fact, their I130 wasn't even sent to NVC; it was sent to storage at NRC for eventual AOS most likely.

This case happened also to me , they sent the papers to the embassy in lima but I never got the package 3, so I decided to call and they gave me the news  , but I called just 4 days before my interview, so I asked for a new date my first interview was scheduled for July 12 and then they gave the new appointment for July 31, as I didn't get any paper had to go to Lima ( I am from Arequipa) and asked for the letter with they day of the interview, because you need that for the medical exam and they recomend me that the ME had to be 5 days before the interview, I don't know why. You just need to pay in the Banco Continental the fee just 320 soles is a little more than 100 dollars, just that. I am not sure about the forms for K3 as I was K1 but this site helped me a lot. If you think you need more time just call the embassy and re-schedule your apointment, better have some more days to get everything in order so she will not have problems they day of the interview, than do all in a rush. Well that worked for me. Good luck
