No, the A number (alien registration number) will start with an A followed by a series of 8 or 9 numbers. The WAC number is your service center receipt number.

Right, an A number is your Alien Registration Number which is printed on your visa.

Hopefully this will bump up to the top so i don't have to create a new thread...

I have what I believe is our alien number for my wife, but here's the rub: it's on our K3 NOA2. In the beneficiary box, above her name is sequence like this: A000 000 000 where the 0s are numbers. Now, I, as many people, it appears, received NOA2 for both the CR-1 and the K3 at about the same time. As I proceed through the CR-1 track, can I still use the alien number from the K3 (we didn't get an A# on the CR-1 NOA2)? Is this number "universal", in the sense that there should only be one per alien (this makes sense to me, but I want to make sure). In particular, should I put the A# from my K3 petition on the I-864 that I fill out for the CR-1 visa? I just want to be careful that there isn't a new A# assigned to my wife in the CR-1 process and things get messed up if I cross the streams. Thanks! ttyl,

mich

mich,

The number you are looking at on the K3 Approval Notice is an A#. Many people end up with several A#s as a result of the numerous applications and petitions that are submitted during the course of the immigration process.

mich,

Not necessarily, but highly likely.

Most (all?) petitions and applications ask for the A#. If one has an A# and knows what it is, then there's a chance that new A#s might not be assigned to each subsequent case. But, the USCIS usually neglects to put the A# on the Receipt Notice for the initial petition (VSC does, but I don't thank any other SCs do). Further on in the process some people don't recognize their A# when they see it and so don't provide it when asked for it. So for one reason or another many people end up with multiple A#s.
