NVC now requiring photocopies as well? DS-230

Did anyone else notice this?

Under Document Requirements it says:

In addition to sending the original documents or certified copies of the documents to the NVC, the applicant and each accompanying family member must submit a photocopy of the original documents or certified copies of the documents.

But under Getting the applicant’s documents back, it says:

Note: Only one original or certified copy of each document must be submitted with the visa application.

No need to call Roserick, unless you really want to.

These two statements are not mutually exclusive.

I think there is some confusion about certified copy vs photocopy.

What they are saying:

1. They want the original OR certified copy of each document, which is basically the same thing and also nothing new.

2. Include a Photocopy of each document. *this is the new part

I just spoke a Live Operator @ NVC..

They said nothing has changed... They still need Original documents no copies attached..

The comment was meant for people that has no English translated Documents.. They are indeed need of a copy of the document translated in English.

That's great news Roserick! I'm hoping we will get ours soon, everything else has been somewhat quick and the only shortcut we used was e-mailing the NVC about the agent.

Roserick, I think the operator was wrong. I would recommend that you send a photocopy of each document as well.

You can't always rely on the operators to have the most up to date information.

I think they want the photocopies to accompany the originals.

If I were sending my DS-230 today I would send a set of photocopies with it.

I don't think they are going to send it back to you if you don't send the photocopy as well, but I just wouldn't want to annoy the person at NVC :)

But she clearly told me that.. Rules haven't change.. She even put me on hold and spoke to someone to verify this.

"SEND ONLY ORIGINALS!!, the only photocopy we accept is the passport biometrics" AS PER NVC...

I agree with trailmix. The new posting on the instructions for the DS-230 is pretty clear. Unless the change the rules again soon....they wouldn't do that.

Where are you seeing these instructions? I don't see anything like that on my forms. Thanks!

Thank you all for you input. Should I take it that I should indeed send duplicates (one original or cerified and one photocopy) of the documents to NVC, per website request or I am still totally reading it wrong?

maybe you thought you were only going to send in photocopies..... which according to what trailmix posted isn't the case.. it says they want the originals or certified copies and a photocopy of each too....
