Missouri State removes Christmas tree over religious complaint

Why call them CHRISTMAS trees if they have no association with the Christmas holiday (holy day)? Few are stupid enough to believe that Christmas decorations have nothing to do with Christmas and that Christmas has nothing to do with Christ.

This is one of my biggest problem with the whole Christmas debate......You hear all kinds of people protesting the creche, the word "God" in everything, etc.....and now the tree.....displayed on public property. But do you hear those same people saying....."Well, since I don't believe this, I won't take the holiday off with pay"? Two faced if you ask me.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

maybe it's a small consolation for all of the holidays they celebrate that aren't on their company's holiday schedule and they can't take off....

Maybe.

It just seems like Christmas is really the only one that brings such protests all the time.

I think he/she makes a valid point. While some people, probably a majority would not be offended, there certainly would be someone out there. I remember back in the late 80's, working behind the video rental counter at the local grocer - we had to pull all our copies of Little Mermaid off the shelf because a mother made a big stint over the cover which she claimed had large, erect penises on it. As I've said before, PC was NOT started by those who claim to be offended by public displays of religion.

see if you can find the penises... Disney ended up ditching that cover and came up with one that was ####### free.

Well 80% of Americans declare themselves to be Christian, and doesn't all the money have "GOD bless America". Christianity is the official religion of America. So i don't see how it isn't.

WHAT? Are you serious? GOD bless America? Guess what...Jews believe in god....muslims believe in god....what's your point?

And PLEASE show me a document stating that christianity is the official religion of America.

You know god dalm well that when they put that on the dollar they were not thinking about the Muslin God. The official moto of the USA is' "In God we trust" and again this nothing to do with Islam.

EDIT: I also cant find the document where I read that Christianity is the official religion of America, so I will concede that point, but it is still the country's major religion.

I think if the US were truly a Christian nation - ie. based purely on Biblical laws - even many Christians would feel that their rights were being impinged. How an economic country could survive with no one being allowed to work one day a week would be an interesting experiment, for example. TV would be even more boring than it already is. Book burning? Possibly. You get the gist.

It would not be an experiment that hasn't been done before. We used to survive just fine with no one allowed to work one day a week. When I was a kid, everything was shut down and closed on Sunday.

It's the same God, by the way. It's also the same as the Jewish God!

Not exactly...Christianity and Islam are both monotheistic, but to say they believe in the same God ignores what they each teach about God and Jesus.

Well, I disagree. Abrahamic faiths --> same God. You may not like the way he's worshipped by non-Christians, but it's still the same God.

Under a truly Christian nation, this would be more strictly enforced than just not opening shops. Think about all the things that happen for our society to continue as normal, which requires people to work on a Sunday. Electricity goes out for a whole city. Who can fix it, if you're not allowed to work?

Not to mention another big part of our economy that most people don't even realize exists.... intra-bank, Fed-to-bank, money transfers. That never stops.

It's not about how he is worshipped, but whom is worshipped. Christians say Jesus, as the second person of the Trinity, is God and worship him accordingly. Islam says Jesus is only a man, and does not worship him as God. Therefore, the two religions are not worshipping the same God.

Well, we'll have to disagree. I usually hear this sort of reasoning on anti-Muslim websites. *shrug*

ETA: and I understand the difference between how Christians and Muslims view Jesus, thanks.
