Okay One quick question .. If I pay for the I-129 F by money order is there a link on the USCIS website that lets me see if its been cashed or will I be able to call and see if its been cashed and such???

Kind Regards,

Shawna & Chris

Your best bet is to use a personal check if you want to track when it is cashed. Good luck on getting your package out to USCIS.

Agreed. Personal checks have a good paper trail. Really, though, tracking when it's cashed is not any effective means of knowing that your case is progressing. Good to know though, I guess.

Okay .. But if I do pay by money order .. Can I just go to the site and check my progress by name or call the service center I sent it to to check the process and what not?

You can't use the check itself to check the status anyway. From what I've seen, it might get cashed 4 days after they receive your petition, or it might be months (as it was for me).

When the USCIS receives and files your petition, they will send you a receipt notice (NOA1). This receipt notice has will have your case number (WAC__________), which you will use to track your status on the USCIS web site. Some people have had troubles getting their NOA1. In this case, after 90 days of filing, you can call the USCIS customer service number and they can look up your case number and status, and you may request an NOA1 to be re-sent. Likely, though, expect your NOA1 within a month after they receive your petition.

Dot your i's, cross your t's, be patient, and good luck!

Yes, you can check the status of your case on-line eventually when you know what your receipt number is provided USCIS sends you the hard copy. USCIS has not been sending receipt promptly which is why it is a good thing to use a personal check since USCIS typically stamps the back of the each check with each receipt number.

Ahh, right!! I had forgotten about that.. Namely since the "stamp" on the back of my check was a huge smudge... Good point, Arinola!

You can't check when a money order is cashed, if you want to know when the money has been processed, you really need to use a personal check - which also has the case number stamped on the back (although not always accurately) so you can check your status.

With a money order, you have to wait for your NOA w/ the case number to check status.

Most money order issuing companies have an 800 # you can call to verify the status of a money order. You will need the serial # off the M/O. Not sure if they can give you the numbers off the back, or issue a copy of the canceled check, but you can check to verify whether or not it was negotiated.

I know when we used Amscot, we couldn't find any way to find out if it had been cashed, so we were pretty much screwed - but we got our NOA pretty fast (this was AOS) so it was fine.

We paid with money order. we didnt have any problem. What we did was to call the money order company to find out if it has been cashed 10 days after we sent the package. When they said yes, we called USCIS to get our Receipt# over the phone and then we registered online to track the progress of the case. To get your recepit # over the phone, all you have to do is to identify yourself and verify some information.
