my boring office job is working as a secretary in a real estate office...i work on the upper east side and deal with all the super super rich people who want to open businesses in this neighborhood...it has nothing to do with my area of study (psychology), its just basically getting me through this year off that im taking...i CANNOT wait to get back to school....i will be going for psychology of language, and doing research in that area...most people dont really understand how, but research is creative in a lot of ways also...i decide what to study, and can create new findings from my studies, i think thats awesome lol what a nerd.

rae, that truly sucks about your camera, but now you have an excuse to get a nicer, fancy one! lol i actually have a pretty descent digital camera that i bought right before i went to florence for the first time...i was taking a photo class in italy, and thats kinda where my love began...recently the nice camera has started to piss me off though, because its too big to bring everywhere!! my brother bought me a crappy little point and shoot for christmas, and i bring that out with my friends and such...i save the nice camera for when its truly needed...are you from ny, or did you move here after college? where did you go to school?

Real estate in this city enthralls me (because it's rather ridiculous). I think I'd find your job interesting!

I want to do just what you explained... have the nicer camera for more special things like trips (they are big and bulky but the difference in quality is so amazing) and the point and shoot for outings with friends and stuff like that. So actually I want to replace the one that broke AND get a nicer one! Oy vei! $$

I'm originally from Michigan, the Ann Arbor area. I actually moved here when I was 17 to go to college.... I went to Pratt. Loved NYC, loved Brooklyn, stayed. What about you?

I'm really into photography too and have exactly what you describe

my small camera is my first digital, which I got duty free just before leaving Australia in 2004... it's only 3.5 mp, but has a 10x optical zoom and really is remarkably compact for something with some great features, and it's light and fits in my bag, and I have it with me all the time; I hate not having my camera

I've mentioned elsewhere about having a small business making postcards; all the cards so far have been made using that small camera (it's an Olympus) which is perfect since the images don't need to be massive

then about this time last year I got my first digi-SLR, which I love to death - it's a Pentax K-100D, with two lenses, and the anti-shake function which actually WORKS, unlike similar things I've seen on friends' cameras

I bought it online in the States and had it sent to a friend's place, who was coming over here, and she brought it in her hand luggage; I saved SO much money that way!

it's too bulky to carry around every day, as others of you have said, but I always take it in its separate bag if I really want some good shots, and just put up with the extra bulk and weight... and having the proper zoom lens (which my lovely fiancé sent as a surprise gift a couple of months back ) makes me look far more professional than I really am

hahaha, I know just what you mean! I have some really great lenses (telephoto, macro, and 2 wide angle) that were passed down to me through family, and I don't want to be mistaken for a professional photographer! Pressure to take excellent photos... hahaha.

Yeah although I'd hardly class it as "fine" I get some ok ideas but I never really know what to do with them I think I like things to be structured and organised or have a definite feel to them and it is difficult to do that in fine art - I think I would much prefer to be in the design field but - who know what awaits me

Haha totally - I majored in art and design yet got asked frequently if I was majoring in maths - in all my school reports it mentions my affinity for both maths and art and what an unusual combination it is!!! Maybe I'm just weird I think that is what I like about making jewellery - it is creative but you still have that kind of structure to work from using tangible materials and I think that helps - having materials like that restricts possibilities so I find it easier to get on with things rather than get overwhelmed. Blank canvas and paints?!?! No thank you!!

it can... I've lived here for a while and have therefore sent loads of things OS (all my friends and family being elsewhere), and my experience is that anything going from or to the US takes longer than other international mail; it's consistently slower

in other news, David got a letter from NVC saying they'd posted me Packet 3, so I expect it any day now
