I've got a question...

I've been trying to call the USCIS to get information about whether or not that even looked at it since they received it in July or if they've sent me an RFE. I've called the general number a few times and got an automated response telling me that they have no information and that I have to contact the service center handling my case. Do I really have to do this?

If so, what the number for the California service center? I've searched all over and cannot find it.

No direct dial telephone numbers are available to any of the sevice centers... It appears that CSC is just now getting to July filers... This is a long and arduous process....

Mine has not been touched since they received it in June'07 at the VSC and when I tried getting the status of the case from their automated system, it told me the same thing you were told. I am going to wait it out for a few days more before I talk to a USCIS representative. Maybe it is already assigned to an officer. If so no point in calling at such a late stage and complicating matters.

Call the 800 number listed on the bottom of the NOA1 page. Then follow the numbers as if you are filing for a Request for Information (RFE). Do not follow any automated anything. From there they have to send you to a customer service agent in your Service Center. Good luck on getting them to tell you much... they always seem to refer back to the website and give general informaton. I think their goal is to try to make a person crazy.
