Plus anyone who would not go along with his plan was targeted even if they were German themselves. And if you tried helping those who were persecuted you'd end up in the same place they were being sent to. Another Dutch family I know of(not personally but the story) was sent to concentration camps, I'm sure many know of Corrie ten Boom and her family. There were lots more like them I am sure. Something interesting about Corrie ten Boom...

The Diary Of Anne Frank is, IMO, one of the most powerful books ever written.

My father is from (the former E.) Germany and I have a German maiden name. I used to get teased (actually it was 'hated') in grammar school and called a Nazi by some ignorant kids. A sad time in my childhood, for sure.

The Diary Of Anne Frank is, IMO, one of the most powerful books ever written.

My father is from (the former E.) Germany and I have a German maiden name. I used to get teased (actually it was 'hated') in grammar school and called a Nazi by some ignorant kids. A sad time in my childhood, for sure.

Not to make light of the cruelty you experienced as a child, but I remember singing this little ditty with my brothers...

The Gypsies call it Porrajmos, which means "the devouring" in the Gypsy language, Romani. Even though about a million were killed (according to the Gypsy people) it's not widely known about, and I think part of it is because Gypsies are so private and insular. A lot of people would be surprised to find that roughly 1 million Gypsies (a majority of whom live in Gypsy groups) live in the United States. IOW, they don't have a real PR bent about the whole thing.

Jews, on the other hand, have (quite rightfully IMO) made a huge deal out of the Holocaust, Holocaust education, memorials, etc. etc. and in this country and many others have, as a group, the power and money to do so. Sometimes I wonder if Jews don't now have a responsibility to use Holocaust awareness efforts to also draw attention to other genocides, past and present. No other recent genocide is as well known as that of the Jews and I think we could do a lot of good using that to raise awareness of genocide in general.

I was in the break room a while ago and overheard something I'd like to share.

Two men, both in their 40s (by appearance). We will call them Man A and Man B.

There's a cork board with fliers attached. One flier is a request for donations to a charity dedicated to Holocaust education. Man A rips it out, shows it to Man B - "check this out". Man B holds it, smirks, and says "oh those poor Jews." Man B laughs and suggests sending them a quarter to show how much he cares. Man A says "I wouldn't trust those people with a single penny".

At this point, VJ Troll exited the break room with his new, cold, beverage in hand.
