IR1 / CR1 - Montreal Timeline to Interview

I'm hearing different people saying different things. Zenaxe said they email you when your interview date is assigned. Could it be that this is only for people signed up for "electronic processing"? Does DoS stand for Department of State? What role to they have in scheduling interviews and what is the web site / phone number?

Also... what does DCF stand for?

DCF = direct consular filing - it's a common term here for filing your I-130 directly at the consulate as opposed to mailing it to USCIS in the U.S.

The email thing is for everyone who mails in their application, their documents are sent to NVC, processed then forwarded to Montreal. NVC (national visa center) then schedules the interview, in conjunction with Montreal, as opposed to those that DCF, their interview is scheduled by the actual consulate only.

The phone number for the Department of State is 1-202-663-1225 - press 1 then 0

Wouldn't it make so much more sense if everytime a case is complete at the NVC, they just assign it to the next open interview space at the consulate? It seems like it would save everyone over there so much time and effort! I realize that efficiency at the NVC is an oxymoron, but come on, it can't be this difficult!

So do people who file DCF contact DoS with questions too? I have emailed the consulate and asked for an update a week ago but no reply yet. :(

Hey there, yes you get electronic and text messages when you sign up for electronic processing. And as others mentioned DCF is direct consular filing and DOS is the Dept of State. DOS takes the entire package over after Dept of HOmeland Security does it's initial and thorough background check. So after NOA2 the case is then sent to DOS for completion; they have control and set up the interview with the US consulate after they complete your case. They aren't involved in the interview if you are doing CR1 - might be different if you are both in the USA and going down the K3 visa route. But if you are the beneficiary and remaining in your country while the visa application is being processed, you interview at the US consulate assigned ie Montreal....I may be babbling a tad as I've had a little vino haha

I have a DCF Filing.Since I postponed my interview I have not received any New Date yet.

Here's our Time line:

January 14, 2010 - Original Interview was postponed

February 29 - I sent an email informing Montreal that we are ready for an interview

April 7 - got response from Montreal that they had my file duly noted and waiting for any date available

--I wrote them email follow-ups --

June 29 - They only replied to my May 5 email saying when a date is available they will schedule me...

July 7 - no interview yet.

My husband kept saying to stop contacting Montreal anymore as it will just annoy them..what do I do this taking foreevvvver!

My 6 year old daughter had been separated to her Day and she is so attached to him, very frustrating

Anybody who postponed Interview are running to the same issue as me?

Not many here have postponed their interviews, because they usually come here first and are advised not to. The reason being is that what tends to happen is what you are going through.

The only thing you could do at this point is have the US citizen contact their senator or congressperson and have them put in an inquiry with Montreal as to why it is taking so long to get an interview.

Good luck.

I see, I have not been a member before and got no advice.

Well, with regards to congressman we already did that and my hubby contacted the congressman where he is residing but still no answer.

I guess, I might have suffered the most painful act of postponing interview...no relief just frustrations...

sorry to vent out to the readers but the wait is insane... :-(

I'm really sorry to hear about this situation. It's common knowledge that postponing interviews sets you back months. I understand you are back in some queue and 'when' a date comes open you get one. Although if you think about it, dates are open every single month. Too bad you had to delay that interview. I agree with Trailmix that likely the only avenue you may have is the US congressman or woman. Other than that, you can continue to email Montreal but you're doing everything you can.

I hope they reschedule you soon !

Good luck and don't be afraid to vent.

I see, I have not been a member before and got no advice.

Well, with regards to congressman we already did that and my hubby contacted the congressman where he is residing but still no answer.

sorry to vent out to the readers but the wait is insane... :-(
