Hello....

From reading the posts and the info on the website, I understand that proof of employment is needed to show you can support your wife.

I have not applied for the k1 visa yet, but looking into starting the papers in december/jan timeframe. However, I might be leaving my company and starting my own business with a friend. If i start my own business, of course the first few months will be low on pay, and it might take 6-8 months before we see some revenues.

Where in the process of the k1 visa do they verify the employment? Is it just in the beginning of the process or does it go all the way thru?

thanks for any input.

cheers from rainy florida :)

You show evidence of income only at the end of the process (at interview). The instructions that come with the I-134, Affidavit of Support will be helpful. I suggest you study them carefully.

Once the fiance(e) arrives you file another affidavit of support, the I-864 with your application to adjust status.

For clarity, you, the US Citizen do not apply for a K1 visa. You petition for your fiance(e) to have the privelege of applying for a K1 visa. You are the petitioner. They are the petition beneficiary and visa applicant.

You don't do any of the applying. You petition. Good luck.

Just to be accurate, proof of employment is NOT required. Proof of Ability to Financially Support the beneficiary IS reqiured. Typically this proof comes via your proving of INCOME (INCOME can come from many sources, only some of which are "employment" - think, Interrest, Dividend, Pension, Annuity, etc, etc). Also, substantial liquid Assets can sometimes be utilized as well to demonstrate your Ability to Financially support the beneficiarly.

Wishing Everyone Speed, Success, Happiness and Love,
